Washing detergent is a big do not you have just ruined the waterproof side of your jacket and there is nothing that you can do to fix it now , what you should have used to clean your jackets would have been Storm Ultimate Wash and Proof Kit its for waterproof riding gear.

I totally avoid coloured glass bottles. I only use 500ml clear glass bottles, not only because it's easier to bottle the beer but also, it's easier to see what is happening to the beer as it ages and pours.

To be honest, my first attempt at home beer brewing was maybe twenty years ago and I dived all in at the deep end to do all-grain brewing and it was a total disaster from the start. That is why it has taken me so long to now have another go doing only kit beers - and that is how I intend to continue, for the same reasons given in the video; cost, space - and also time.

Contrary to your preference, I tend to like a stronger pint, not for the strength alone but because they tend to have more flavour. Savour them slowly and appreciate the flavours.

Had Brakspear many times, usually comes in a 6-bottle collection of traditional ales. Not bad but not one that is good enough to try to imitate in home brewing.

I've tried both the Lancaster Bomber and the Spitfire ales. I have to be honest and say that before you even taste them, their names tug on your patriotic heart strings. I don't find them to be as good as their names suggest. Don't get me wrong; they are ok...but nothing more - and that is why they are not best sellers.

Hi mate. The problem you're having is nothing to do with focus; it is because the camera is directly above the barrel so the rising steam is fogging the lens and thus, blurring the image. Try moving the camera away to one side just a little bit so that it is out of the rising steam.

I've never heard of 4X but I used to drink 6X at a pub in West Wales when I lived there 20 years ago, not sure who made it, Waddingtons seems to ring a bell.

Hi at what stage do you carbonate your barrel of beer

I value this video for many aspects. First of all, bottling and capping bottles was my main concern, as a beginner. Secondly, I have seen videos that are very technical and off putting. So, having not yet brewed a single thing, I spent quite heavily on equipment so that if needed, I can change tactics. I have seen videos that say the bottling wands soon go wrong. I have seen some that recommend table top cappers over hand cappers (I won't be doing that yet). I suppose that until I try, I won't get experience. I have two fermentation barrels; one with a tap and one without. The idea is to ferment in the one with no tap, to avoid leaks and use the tapped one to bottle from. It means that I can filter out a lot of crap when transferring from one to the other. I have even bought bottle caps that draw the oxygen out of the bottle to avoid contamination. I know I will have bad brews along the way but I am doing all I can to eliminate as many as possible, after my first horrible attempts about twenty years ago.

I also tried Shipyard once - and once only. Not for me at all. I've tried hundreds of beers and ales in my 60 years; very few stand out as incredible, many were ok and some were not good. Shipyard is not good...in my humble opinion. It's down to personal taste, I guess.

I can see that at this point, you are getting just about to where I am now; gathering equipment - but I have yet to do a single brew! I have spent maybe £400 to get me going, including a larder fridge (used, for £50) to turn into a temperature controlled fermentation chamber via my newly acquired temperature controller.

Regarding bottles, I prefer brown bottles but I have chosen to only use clear bottles so that I easily can see what's going on in them. You are a few years ahead of me in your brewing and so I have the advantage of hindsight from the huge number of videos that I have watched. I have also noticed that Greene King Abbot Reserve bottles have easily removable labels and that Newcastle Brown bottles upset the maths because they are 550ml, so I got rid of all that I had saved.

I've had many beers that I thought I would like a few but not too many, the taste and whatever can become overpowering.
