The buttery taste is most likely diacetyl. You only brewed this kit for just over a week and even though the hydrometer has stopped moving that doesn't mean the yeast have finished. They make diacetyl and then eat up up again after fermentation. Lagers brewed at low temperatures typically have the temperature bumped up at the end so the yeast clean up after themselves. Google "Diacetyl rest" if you want to find out about it.
These kits are only a fiver now if you can find one in Wilko's. Chances are pretty bleak, though.

Contrary to your preference, I tend to like a stronger pint, not for the strength alone but because they tend to have more flavour. Savour them slowly and appreciate the flavours.

Need to get me one of these, all my beers are between 5-7% which I'm trying to get lower abv with a good bold flavour...
I do prefer the lower volumes on my beers to be honest as the flavour seems to come out more I think..
