Made about 40 pints of nice cider two years ago with apples from 3 different orchards. It was lovely. Found a bottle that had got to the back of the cupboard recently which I will enjoy when I’ve finished my Northumberland Brown Ale. (I Was on holiday in Northumberland last week drinking it.) Last year a made a smaller batch from an apple tree in a cottage in Thirsk I stayed at but I put too much citric acid in it. It tasted bad. You could tell it was alcoholic and I tried a few but not good. I have a friend who I had given some to as soon as it was ready and they said they liked it so they ended up with it all but I really don’t think it was any good. I have another friend who has offered me as many apples as I want (She has a big garden with Lots of trees.) I will let you know how it turns out. My friend who helps me brew has a juicer and that’s how we get the juice from the apples. It’s about 90% apple juice and 10% sugar and water. Regards, Ritchie.

Sounds like your making some very good drinks there Ritchie, was looking at some presses myself but the prices were a bit high for the usage that I would get out of it, I have seen others use 20L of apple juice from the supermarket, but not sure how that turned out...Cheers mate and keep up the good work :)

When you bottle that look for a carbonation calculator online and shoot for at least 3.3 volumes of co2. Cider works well with more fizz than beer if you're not having it flat and it adds a nice bit of crispness.

Don’t know what happened to my comment but I know what you mean about co2. You don’t want too much in beer. It just needs a bit to get a nice head but you don’t want gassy beer. A little bit is okay in lagers but still not too much. Theft bad batch of cider was very gassy and one of my glass Kilmer style pint bottles exploded in the early Kursk. I was still awake in bed but it was a right pain in the arse ha in to clean it up and then tasing it a rew days later finding it bad. You have to accept failures sometimes but you get s much satisfaction when you’ve brewed a great pint that you forget snout them and how what works and what doesn’t. Made some really good pea pod wine a couple of years ago but you need so many pea pods it’s not very practical. I grow my own peas and even with a bumper crop I had to get people to save some of theirs. I don’t normally drink wine but that was nice.
