    Great video my mate and that capper looks better than the one I use. I have never used carbonation drops but get the wife to syringe 8ml of sugar solution into each bottle. It keeps her occupied so that is good!

    I really like your channel. I'm starting out at home-brewing with a couple of the woodefordes kits and your tips have been very helpful! Norfolk Nog is currently in the fermenter.. next stop sundew me thinks!

    Hey m8 it's been awhile hope everything's been good for you so me and my buddy just got off of 7 Days to Die multiplayer for Xbox one right we both spawned in is snow biome we had no clothes no nothing my job was to get stone his job was to get wood so he made a campfire first keep warm and it got dark right so he has a second campfire and that campfire spawns in a screamer and that screamer spawned in six zombies so we're running around in the dark and our underwear running around in circles for our lives trying to save our skin smacking the zombies with torches it was funny

    think im Gunna have to give this home brew buisness a go. do you just do the kits or have you made any from scratch?

    • @ddoubletap3815
      @ddoubletap3815  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just do the kits myself, I can't see myself ever doing grains as I just dont see the point in it unless you want specialty beers with specific flayvors. More than happy with the kit's myself, give them a try and you might like it :)

    All looked to go well with this brew mate, looking forward to tasting day. Could you give me any pointers as to why my Wilko Irish stout (now two months old) would be over lively even when poured very slowly, it was brewed exactly to the instructions, but I just swapped the yeast for Gervin.

      I get it all the time and I put it down to over chilling and the bottles being close to the fridge eliment..But most likely to be over carbonation..

      How did you prime it? Did you batch prime or just put sugar in the bottles? Batch priming is much better and allows you to really tailor the carbonation level.

      Primed each bottle with one carbonation drop, only did one drop because my previous brew was lively with two drops.
      I do chill my beers before drinking though.

      It happenes to me often and I put it down to how much I chill them it must send the carbonation crazy, try it with an unchilled one, at least that way you can rule it out if nothing happens..

      If you're only using one drop that wouldn't cause too much fizz. It's possible that some wild yeast got in as you were bottling as beer contains complex sugars that beer yeasts don't eat, but wild ones do. Stouts are known to slowly keep fermenting and can get more lively with age. Brewmaster Ben and a few other brewers even experimented with using no priming sugar at all with stouts - it'll be not that far back in his videos. Given enough time they carbonate on their own, so you could really reduce the priming level.
      Chilling will make the beer less fizzy on serving as more co2 stays dissolved so that'll make things better. One lot of stout I got a yeast infection in could only be poured at near freezing, or opening so slowly that it took about 35 minutes to vent the gas.
      I've taken to baking my bottles as an extra step on bottling day, replacing the final sanitise and rinse step and that's helped. I also batch prime with a boiled sugar solution which makes sure that the sugar isn't bringing in any nasties. While it's not definite, carbonation drops could possibly be a route to infection as when they're left open they're yeast's favourite food.

    How did you find the beer finings differed from the wine one?

    • @ddoubletap3815
      @ddoubletap3815  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the wine ones are more concentrated as whats left over in the bottom is a lot thicker..

      @@ddoubletap3815 ah ok not used the beer one yet, btw those metal mesh filters are good but they won't work with you racking cane so you will have to go and get some thicker tubing

      Worked quiet well that filter did, but need a thicker pipe thats for sure, bit of hot water loosened up up but will do a more permanent fit for it :)
