Because there are so many repetitions of the same tree, it would be more practical to graft them all on one single tree to save space. I had Celeste in San Antonio, Tx, but I cut it down because it was too vigorous and "weedy" (excessive sprouts from the roots). I prefer fig trees with moderate growth that don't take too much space.

Thanks for sharing this. I had this question in mind about cherimoyas myself and you answered it beautifully. I also want smaller cherimoyas for fruit growth management and keeping in a pot. My remaining question is if the technique of notching just above a bud works for creating lateral branch growth in cherimoyas. I have some taller trees that I might test this on. They dont have enough branches on lower trunk. Scared to chop those as they are older and thicker then the other ones I have so i want to see if notching works.

Cheers!, enjoyed listening when I should have been working 😂. I think that I was that forum member who posted about the Chiswick fig collection and trying to sort out the issue with the numbering. I believe the Chiswick collection was sent to the RHSV in Aus as well so a good number of the varieties from that collection may be in Australia. The collection in the UK was lost around the time of WW2, as best I can find out the glass houses were damaged during the Blitz. There is now a new collection at RHS Wisley, they have confirmed that none of their varieties can trace directly back to Chiswick

Apparently pawpaw do very well in the Mediterranean so you might be fine with it there. They don't need much of a rest in winter and they like summer warmth and to be well watered. You'll probably need to hand pollinate BUT that variety is not considered to be self fertile so you might havecto squeeze in a seedling or another named variety 😁

That’s amazing the triloba flowered up there, you need two different genetic trees to get any fruit unfortunately I’m curious to see if it’s flowers next year also, it could be possible it clocked up a few chill hours before you left Canberra 🤷🏻‍♂️ Pitanga looks good As you figured and Doug said it’s not quite ready but I’ve also heard they are best refrigerated before eating, maybe that’s just if there is a strong latex taste

I moved in March so definitely before any chill hours, but I did consider that as well. I think more likely it is just highly stressed from the transplant and it triggered flowering. 12 months from now will be the real test, although with the warm year we have predicted it might take a few years to really determine one way or another. As the pots scale up in size it becomes exponentially so. I am getting to the point where a number of plants are pushing the boundaries of their pots and will need to be potted up, and I am wondering whether I will take the easy route or will go out and continue to mix up big batches of custom soil mix.
