    Cheers!, enjoyed listening when I should have been working 😂. I think that I was that forum member who posted about the Chiswick fig collection and trying to sort out the issue with the numbering. I believe the Chiswick collection was sent to the RHSV in Aus as well so a good number of the varieties from that collection may be in Australia. The collection in the UK was lost around the time of WW2, as best I can find out the glass houses were damaged during the Blitz. There is now a new collection at RHS Wisley, they have confirmed that none of their varieties can trace directly back to Chiswick

    Little Miss Figgy is a dwarf variety of VdB. Exact same fruits. Huge bearer, if mine in a pot is an indication. It's still a small plant, at less than a cubic meter, but I see 50 fruits on it. I bought it from a nursery just five months ago, where it was in a one gallon pot. I also have a real VdB, same age, which is much taller, but is not fruiting yet.

    Because there are so many repetitions of the same tree, it would be more practical to graft them all on one single tree to save space.
    I had Celeste in San Antonio, Tx, but I cut it down because it was too vigorous and "weedy" (excessive sprouts from the roots). I prefer fig trees with moderate growth that don't take too much space.

    That Cdd Blanc pic that say courtesy of Jamey is me. Nice to see it made it in the video. That was 2021 , I loved it so much, last year I sacrificed my harvest to up-pot twice and layer off all 4 scaffolds. So I have 5 Cdd Blanc this yr, and hope to get several figs from each one.

  • @saswk1

    I must say, I was surprised when I heard your number one fig, (because it had the most votes). I believe that the only explanation for this outcome is that it's widely available, while many of the other varieties are still relatively rare.

    • @LiveLoveCanberra
      @LiveLoveCanberra  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It makes a lot of sense, because it is an aggregated count of votes, there simply wont be as many people with some of the niche figs out there able to vote them higher. Also because the list was ranked differently by different people some people ranked based upon hardiness or reliability rather than flavour etc. It makes a lot of sense that the more common figs get more mentions in general

    Nathan, its satisfying to see you finish this project. It's been a journey not only with this video series, but with everything going in your life as you said. It's Quite Ironic. 10 years since the f4f post, man, time flies. Shoutout to Millennial Gardener, I like his videos as well.
    Violet De Bordeaux was the one that got me started as well! It seems to be the fig that gets everyone started before we go further into figs. It is easily a number 1 for me as well. I found out that the Black Ischia in Australia is actually called Petit Negri. I didn't know Ischia Black UCD, is a completely different fig. Petit Negri is from France, and it's a very 'petite' small tree-based Bordeaux fig. PS: I bought my Rond De Bordeaux off eBay and its definitely not RDB. Perhaps you've got the same RDB source as me? (figalot on ebay) and you might be surprised by the leaf pattern that it's not RDB, but another Bordeaux family fig (unknown).
    Nathan, thanks for sharing this fig list project with us. It was in my opinion a great idea to evaluate all the information out there and create a criterion and rank everything. All the best, and God Bless! Dim.

    • @LiveLoveCanberra
      @LiveLoveCanberra  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a couple of Black Ischia, and some sold as Ischia Black, bought from a few sources over years, it is so difficult to know in Australia if we are getting the same varieties that are spoken of in the USA, or if they have adopted different names here based on overseas popularity. I have a Rond de Bordeaux that I got as a part of a trade on a Facebook group, and it hasnt yet fruited so I am not sure if it is the real deal. I dont know what the original source of the one I have is, but I didnt source it from figalot directly. I understand that the leaf shape of RDB is quite characteristic, and my young plant seems to have a mix of leaves, so I guess I will just to wait and see. If it does turn out legit I will get some cuttings to you if you want

      @@LiveLoveCanberra It's going to be interesting to see for sure. I feel as if the Australian Scene is lacking, but it seems to be getting better.
