  • We have watched our beautiful little cutttings grow from newly chopped sticks into full-fledged young plants. For those wanting to know where we are now, this video is for you.
    This video will also give you an idea on how quickly your new cuttings can grow and what you can expect after around a year of growth.
    I speak on some issues buying cuttings from ebay, and look at some rare cuttings and varieties.

      It is one of the reasons I love figs so much, you have a stick and in 8-12 months you can be eating fruit

    Great idea stating the seller of your figs when doing a review. It will help people like me with little knowledge coming from you with much knowledge, knowing who to trust. Buying figs seems like a real trial when you are after a particular variety. BTW my Bunnings bought Brown Turkey leaves are nothing like yours. Are you surprised?? 😊😊

      I think Daleys are a little better than Bunnings, by I had another tree from Yalca come across as wrong (Ironically St Dominique as well which turned out to be a white fig).
      It is definitely a problem though!

    Great video mate ! Fig variety identification is a bit of a nightmare for sure lol. There are just hundreds of varieties and I suspect that spread over so many countries there are a number of identical varieties that have been given completely different names. I only have a few varieties compared to your collection but at least a couple of mine are unknown and I suspect a couple of others are misnamed. Of course once a genuine mistake is made by a supplier or grower, that mistake simply gets perpetuated. Your Australian 'real' Brown Turkey has totally different leaves to the UK Brown Turkey which is the most common variety sold in the UK, probably 95% of fig plants sold here are BT.

      Totally rihgt! And it is something that is a big enough problem even within country of origin, let alone varieties hundreds of years old, where plenty of time to mix up and change has happened.

    Glad to see you have a well rounded selection of healthy, productive fig trees. Enjoy watching your vids all the way over here is Zone 6a North East Indiana, USA. Keep up the quality content. 👌 I'm rooting 10 cuttings over the winter months here. Not alot, but about all I can handle 🤣

      Zone 6a! I resent my 9a every year, I cant even imagine living somewhere even colder! Good luck with your cuttings, which varietties do you have going at the moment?

      I resent my zone most of the time as well. 😅 Currently I have Black Zadar, Olga, Lebanese Red, LSU Red, Planera, Calderona, Galicia Negra, Super Jumbo DK, Rockaway Green, and Del Sen Jaum Gran going. The LSU Red and Lebanese Red are going full steam with the others either having only roots or a couple breaking buds. Mine will be moving to larger pots in 2 weeks and then outside in 12 weeks.

      @@Its.Just.Me.You.See. I have some Lebanese red too, and they were very quick as well, has it warmed up much where you are or still in the throws of Winter

      We are having a fairly mild late winter period. It's typically 20-30F still, but we are forecast for the 50-60F over the next week. It's definitely warmer than usual. Lawns are starting to green up in February. 😬

      @@Its.Just.Me.You.See. Sounds about the same as where I am towards the end of winter, the worst part is waiting for it to be warm enough for everything to break bud

    Your backyard is so joyful ❤️. And the baby vdb is amazing to have so many figs already 🙌. How often do you water the pots?

    • @LiveLoveCanberra
      @LiveLoveCanberra  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In this weather I water daily or every two days. I kind of stagger it to about every 1.5 days ideally unless it is really hot in which case I increase frequency. Figs love water even though it can causer fruit to explode!

    • @marilynwhite2155
      @marilynwhite2155 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LiveLoveCanberra with our hot weather I have been watering the pots twice a day flooding till water comes out the bottom. Unfortunately some figs have gotten larger than previously and taste watery and bland. Still learning and trying for the happy medium

    Yes my chickens are plant destroyers also grrr 😂 so frustrating. It will be interesting to see which are true to type
    The kangaroo island fig is certainly vigorous

      The thing I dont get about chickens, if you let them have an entire yard to wander, they will jump in your favourite pot and dig it up

    I have a few figs from the same seller on Ebay, including that black mission and St Dominique violette. I didn't get any fruit last season so couldn't confirm varieties from fruit. But fingers crossed at least some are what they are labelled as 🤔

    Yeah, that "Black Mission" is definitely a VDB. Mission figs do not have that purplish tint until they're ripening. Source: Californian, and eater of many local fresh figs.

    Hello … how are the cuttings doing from the fig tree that you found on the side of the road?

    • @LiveLoveCanberra
      @LiveLoveCanberra  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They actually suffered an unfortunate accident! I took a last minute trip interstate and had the cuttings sitting in a wheelbarrow full of rainwater to be potted up when I got back, and the dogsitter thought she was helping by emptying all the water out from the wheelbarrow to stop mosquitoes!
