  • Hello everyone! This is my first video from Brisbane after making the move from Canberra. A quick look at my new property, the plants I brought across and some ideas on what I would like to do to the place.
    I try a couple of figs including Galacia Negra, White Adriatic and Green Ischia and pick a pineapple ripe in the garden.

    Hi Naathan, found it exciting following you on the pathway through your new garden. Hope you find a place for all your own plants. Looking forward to seeing how the new garden accommodates all the fig pots.
    Love the tropical look. Cheers

      I am wondering how I will fit all the figs in, there is a lot of space, but lots of it shaded, and cant steal all the front space from my son!

    How fantastic to be in warmer weather! I look forward to watching your future videos so I can enjoy QLD by proxy ❤

      The warm weather was a shock at first, the humidity somehow changes the heat and sweaty in just a few minutes!

    Wow, beautiful place. Good idea with the ice cream bean to create some shade. I agree with a 2-3 metre spacing. What I like to do is leave existing plants, trim them to make space then just do the chop and drop thing for a while. And as you say just over time chop out the older things for the newer ones. I cannot imagine its easy to map out the future food forest in your head. But I look forward to seeing how it evolves.

      I think thats a good plan, I worry a bit about the 2-3m spacing with some of the eventual sizes of the trees, but it should take a few years before they start to impact each other, and maybe if they grow at similar rates they wont end up shading out the weaker plants.

    Looks great. Get yourself a Panama berry for the front. Grows quickly when establishing and your kids will love picking the berries!

      One of the few plants I dont yet own, the description from Daleys makes my fingers itch to pick one up though!! I like that all the descriptions say very fast growing, could fit perfectly....

    How exciting to be in this new property. Gorgeous friut trees and fruit. I look forward to watching it all grow. I'm in Newfoundland, Canada a colder climate. 😅

      Only slightly colder :P Even though it is colder even than Canberra, I love the thought of potentially spending some years in Canada, such beautiful country and wilds, and the people seem awesome!

    So exciting to see your new surroundings Nathan, I can almost feel the warmth and humidity just by watching. Needless to say I'm super jealous. Exciting times ahead although I think you'll soon run out of space lol

      Wait till you see the prices in the shops in Aus these days, absolutely insane, although I hear that the UK might even be leading the charge for inflation, so perhaps you have the same joys...

    Congrats Nathan, what area did you end up moving to?
    You should try to come to one of the sub tropic fruit club meetings, plenty of knowledge and free trees.
    You are also welcome to come around anytime to see what I am growing.

      That's exactly where I thought all the figs would go- out the front- and little Felix play out the back- but the front is open and flat for him

    I love soursops! Apart from the weather and plant-related aspects, what are the main differences between Brisbane and Canberra to you?

    • @LiveLoveCanberra
      @LiveLoveCanberra  ปีที่แล้ว

      Canberra and Brisbane are extremely different, Brisbane is more relaxed and friendlier, Canberra is a bit of a cold city both in weather and in people, very cliquey. Brisbane drivers stick to the speed limits a lot more, where Canberrans are 10-15km over on just about every road. The public transport is a lot better, but the traffic is a lot worse. It gets really dark really early here without daylight savings. There is a lot more to do in general in Brisbane and its very easy to do everything there is to do in Canberra.
      After I drove back at Christmas last year, driving from Brisbane into about Newcastle it is amazing how green and lush and densely forrested everything is, and then once you get out of Sydney towards Goulbourn you start to see how everything is just brown and drab. Once I was back in Canberra I was really starting to resent the scraggly gumtrees and barely grassed playgrounds and ovals, and the brown boring landscapes, and driving into Brisbane, especially the stretch North from Coffs is just such a nice drive and so beautiful. I am sure there is more, but these are my main thoughts from the top of my head!

      Sub-tropical Brissy, although I think the level of humidity is plenty enough, and can't imagine living in an even more tropical environment! Are you from up that way?

    How’s that clay compared to the Canberra clay

    • @LiveLoveCanberra
      @LiveLoveCanberra  ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried to stick a shovel in a few places and didnt get anywhere, it will be drop bar and mattock to get any sort of holes dug. The Canberra clay I found was difficult to dig into but drained fairly well, still yet to find out how this Brisbane dirt goes in that department
