Carambola/Starfruit (var. Kembangan) ripe in the grow tent. Taste test.

The day has come. The first tent-ripened Carambola has dropped off the plant, allowing me the opportunity to give it a taste.
It is not a beautiful-looking fruit, but will looks be deceiving?
This is the first fruit larger than a strawberry or small fig that has ripened under grow lights so I am very excited to give it it a try.

Haha that's more like a fig than a starfruit, certainly way over-ripe and fermented, however I bet it's better than the tasteless shop bought ones over here ( rarely available anyway ). But sheer genius to get one in a grow tent 👍

I usually pick them with a slight green on the ribs, then shave them off b4 cutting. That's my favourite stage to eat them. The seeds are in the middle of the fruit but quite small. Great effort to ripen indoors though.

It was definitely a mistake waiting so long, I should have picked it when I first noticed the bottom discolouration starting.
