    Fascinating little project, Nathan. Thoroughly enjoyed this video and looking forward to the next. You have certainly gone down deep into the rabbit hole. Would have thought VDS would be higher on this list, so I'm looking forward to more surprises.

      Thank you and I thought VDS would be higher too! It was actually one of the biggest surprises for me...

    G'day Nathan, what a great series of videos you've got coming. Like you I love the fig ratings vids. I think it's time to change you site to a new name, and with the castle in your office

      That would be fun! This year we might even be able to test if our Aussie varieties of the same name hold up to the strong examples set in this list

    Nathan I ditto everything everyone else has said- an exciting well Presented video. As a beginner fig enthusiast, practising on unamed local fig cuttings - which is giving me loads of excitement, I can only imagine my level of excitement when I finally buy some named ones.
    I shall be looking forward to your next videos, even though my space and ability will only allow me to collect a few good ones.
    Your effort put into this project must be enormous. Thanks for the anticipation and excitement. Better stop rambling here. Cheers Nathan and other video fans.

    What a fantastic idea. And so much work for you. Very generous of you to share your findings 🙌.
    I have only tasted three fresh named varieties.1. Dwarf brown, 2. Brown turkey, 3. White Adriatic. I have a couple of other varieties now too, but am unsure if they’ll fruit this year. I wonder if any of them will rank on your list 🧐.
    Looking forward to your next video 😊

    Fantastic production and what I can only imagine an insane amount of research that went into this. Keep up the high standard of work. Based on the fact that a lot of the forums are US based collectors in the majority, my prediction of the top 10 looks like this:
    1. White Madeira #1
    2. Black Madeira
    3. I258
    4. JH Adriatic
    5. Celeste
    6. Violette de Bordeaux
    7. De La Senyora (Hivernenca)
    8. Col de Dame Grise
    9. Ronde de Bordeaux
    10. Martinenca Rimada
    11. Honourable mention for the Capri fig :-)

      Thanks for your comments and thats a very good list :) I will hold back how you did until the end of the final video, and maybe if people really get involved might even think of a prize for first place if we get enough people guessing.

    Excellent presentation. I'm a big fan of fresh figs to. I try my best not to go down the rabbit hole of collecting them. Your list will help narrow down the best most worthy to keep growing.

    I have a Bass’ Favorite. It is said by some to be the same as Calderona. Pons and Bass both say it is one of the best. It is better than Black Madeira in my opinion. It has a certain smoothness to it that I have never tasted in other figs. This fig is easily a top 5 in any collection in the world. I love Mt. Etna’s too, with Malta Black being my favorite but they don’t hold a candle to Bass’s Favorite/Calderona. We all have opinions though and I appreciate this list and look forward to the next installment.

      That Bass' Favourite looks like a great fig, it is one of those that us poor folk in Australia dont have access to sadly, but just reading your description makes me want to add it to the collection.

    Great vid, lots of research there. I'm very surprised Thermalito isn't going to be in the top ten.
    Also surprised at the VDS position I'd rate my VDS as just below my Black Madiera, so I'm very interested to see the top ten.

    • @LiveLoveCanberra
      @LiveLoveCanberra  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, I think with a variety like Thermalito because it is a newer fig, it didnt have as much of a chance to accrue as many votes perhaps...

    AMAZING VIDEO! I thought the video was going to go longer and I can't believe half an hour went by that quickly. Talk about immersion!
    Judging off the Criteon of these figs being rated, this is my guess to the top 10.
    1 Violet De Bordeaux
    2 Black Madeira
    3 Ischia Black
    4 Red Lebanese Bekaa Valley
    5 i258
    6 Ronde De Bordeaux
    7 Col De Dame Grise (PS: This one for me has the nicest interior of the col de dame's)
    8 Marselies Black VS
    9 Golden Riverside
    10 Sao Miguel Roxo
    EDIT: I'm probably missing an exquisite striped fig in there, and how I could forget a Celeste!

      Thank you for your kind words and for being the first to have a stab at the top ten list, I am not benevolent enough to let you know whether or not you are right, but I will say you clearly know your figs!! I will take your guess and add it to a brand new spreadsheet and maybe at the end see who came the closest!

    Hative, des tres, calderona and petite aubique definitely deserve higher spots on the list.. But good list series non the less!

    • @LiveLoveCanberra
      @LiveLoveCanberra  ปีที่แล้ว

      I am dying to get my hands on Hative! I suspect these varieties are just less held by people to vote on

      @@LiveLoveCanberra Yea thats what I figured, it was a well researched list regardless. Yea I would highly recommend Hative if you ever can find it! It's one of those that tends to grow better grafted on a vigorous rootstock tho

    Stella is probably better. It is said to split less and big. A single fig of it may weight over 100 grams. But Stella is not the sweetest. A Longue d'Aout's fig may be over 100 grams too, and this variety is sweeter.

    • @LiveLoveCanberra
      @LiveLoveCanberra  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Longue d'Aout is a very popular fig, and does make it on the list higher up :) Stella was also quite popular but not enough to make top 40, coming in equal 59th place with English Brown Turkey and Maltese Beauty
