  • After suffering at the beaks of chickens, I pick my first Martinenca Rimada Fig and give it a try. This is a unique, striped dark fig.

I'm going to enjoy watching your vids - I'm in the southern highlands and have just started investigating figs - i admin a cool climate garden group and encourage members to swap seeds, plants etc and I've given away quite a few potted figs - St Dominique de Violette and Violette de Bordeaux I'm developing a list of local growers in our group and what figs they have with a view to sharing cuttings :)

So nice to still have figs ripening 🥰. Those little babies would have lost their leaves weeks ago if they still lived down south!

At this point I am wondering whether they will lose their leaves at all! Do figs lose their leaves in Brissy?!

I enclose my ripening figs in recycled clear small plastic clamshell from the grocery store. They work really well to keep my figs from being eaten by pests.

Thats a good idea, would definitely stop chicken beaks!

I would like an update on how to prune the trees to remain compact in size but yet productive.

Can you please point me in the right direction to be able to add this beauty to my garden, I am also in Qld 😊

I successfully rooted three BNR cuttings, but failed on the rest nine ones. BNR does grow slowly on its own roots.

Luckier than me for sure. This seaosn I actually havent attempted to root a single cutting, feeling really short on space!

So jealous, I got no ripe figs here in Victoria. Was a very odd season down here. I've been waiting for you to post about your BNR, did you get to try any?

I never managed to get any of the BNR cuttings to start, I think there was a problem with the mother tree I was buying form, I tried 4x cuttings. I think the seasons across Aus have been a bit funny last 2 years. Next year we will be treated to el nino which will hotten things up a bit, and will probably be a good fig season...

@Figgin' Around Oh no, I had been wondering about it for a while. I was wondering how the BNR compared to the MR but never mind. Fingers crossed for a better season next year!
