Your videos are making me miss school. I (essentially) have a BS in psychology, and I want to go more but my grades just weren't good enough at the time. I want to actually do therapy. The Learning and Cognition courses were my favorite.

Things like the pale are weird, but in-world they're common knowledge. No one is on the backfoot about the pale, casting hope about its existence while acknowledging the shortage of evidence I feel one could draw a parallel between Lena/Morell's experiences and the theories spouted by Measurehead or worldview of Gary (the "crypto" prefix maybe isn't so much a joke as a descriptor of certain bodies of fringe ideas passionately adhered to in some corners). The difference is Lena and Morell are fixated on a far more tangible question about reality and zoology but the psychological origins of those beliefs may not be dissimilar to more prominently noxious ones of other characters. It's possible to find an unfortunate branch of dialogue with Lena that hints at how, even while well-meaning and sweet, she and Morell get along with Gary. Or maybe how he influences them.

I didn't get that Inland Empire passive when Lena is telling her story, and holy shit. Harry and Lena both came into contact with something they see as out-of-this-world, and then spend the rest of their lives reaching out for it. Harry can never get it back, and Lena lost her mobility to reach. Harry then impresses on Lena's tale, seeing her quest as his own.

As a gamer, I applaud your choice to jump in blind to grasp at what the game does with the preset stats, but I feel like if you Wanted to diagnose the character you'll be playing as you Might have missed your chance with creating a character and reading off what each and Every stat and inner dialogue character is. Would have been interesting to hear what you think about a normal person should balance their stats to be... Better yet, I would be interested in what you felt about each stat's description and how needing more or less of it could affect someone... Might be there for a whole hour, but I'd be down to watch that.

When I decided not to arrest kallje my logic was that I knew she didn't kill him, and I was there to solve the murder. If she had killed him she'd have done a better job of covering it up. Informants are more useful out in the field than in cuffs anyway.

Swapping clothes is very common. There is a reason why you are allowed to quit most interactions and resume them. There is a good chance that you will forget that you swapped your clothes and you will then stumble into stuff you have missed previously because you couldn't pass passive checks (have X in Y stat). Plus some clothes have very funny descriptions and reasoning why they affect the stats they affect. You can justify it, if you need to, by saying that Harrier is able to recall his past better in certain clothes, and that past experience helps him with his current task

loved the ep :) during my playthrough I was surprised the whole cryptozoologist sidequest turned out to be so emotional. something i thought of while you talked about childhood memories was that morell must've been one of the few people that took her story seriously and fully believed her to the extent of dedicating all of this time trying to find it. there was probably other people who believed her but to have someone like morell in her life must've been a huge validation! excited for the smoker on the balcony conversation and for the new characters in store!

What I find intriguing is that the "real detective" is not the one who solves crime by relating and talking with the people. It's the Sherlock style one that visualizes the crime and solves with raw intellect not emotional connection. No judgements, I fall into this as well but I can't un- notice it now.

since your build was not logic focused, the game shows less of the detective side of the game that much until you spec into some of the skills related to it. But since you specced into the psy skills you got a whole different outlook on the game, and indeed you can solve the case without the need to focus on any of the trees if you wanted to. It merely leads you on different ways of experiencing the game and you progress differently potentially. I'd definetely encourage a rerun or perhaps doing one on your own time after you finish your playthrough :p

Given the in-game time (day 3, nearly 20:00), you have actually made more progress on the case that most first-time blind players. Many first-time players do not reach the point in the case that you are now until day 4 or later.

I have no idea if it's intentional or not, but Lena's cryptozoology gives me the same feeling as religious people in real life. You can be 99% sure what they believe is nonsense, but it does have a lot of emotional significance to them, which gives me certain respect for it.

The thing I love the most is that you can see how conversations are put together in order to try and simulate your baser instincts. The passive checks at 1:08:12 are you (Angry, betrayed, misogynist Harry) trying to think of a reason to bring her in. The two correct answers for reasons to bring her in require medium Authority and Rhetoric checks, but your fight/flight response (half light) check is easy- and it's just "Fucking *MIND* games, ENOUGH!".

It is interesting that you always mention the intelligence skills as the "true detective" skills. But really, all the skill are important for advancing the case.

Honestly this weird sort of play through has been interesting because when you didn’t discover the bullet early in the game I was curious how things would play out and am surprised that it even came up at this point.

So many of those experiences seem a bit... lacking without Kim.

The number of times I messaged my friend who had played this already with my theory of who did it, how and why, only to play for another hour and have to message them again "Yeah, that's clearly wrong and now I have no idea what's going on again."... was large.

My thoughts exactly: “why is Brady, after introduced to the most strange world of Elysium where Pale literally dissolves continents, is so sceptical about phasmids?” And like a minute later he narrates it himself =)

If I remember correctly, if you had the cryptid conversation when Kim is around, the game tells you that he just pretends to hate the topic but deep down he's actually really interested in it.

I've been working on my own game inspired by Disco Elysium, focused on a character's personal/social/emotional growth and involving internal voices kind of like the skills in DE. Your playthrough has been helpful for thinking about what those voices mean psychologically. The discussion of narrative psychology today is also useful. So thank you, I'm continuing to watch eagerly!

There is certainly no Developer-'encouraged' way to play Disco Elysium in terms of stat build. If it were not, there would not be volumes worth of comedic dialogue acknowledging your failures while also opening alternate paths to advancement. There is a reason you can stack a ridiculous number of bonuses to things like the Authority and Rhetoric checks with Titus that 'advance' the case itself.

As a reminder, you can try to go on a "date" with the single mom on the other side of the river. It's completely wholesome.

There is something you can say to Joyce now that Kim isn’t here that will create a really good and funny moment. You have to talk to her about Everart and repeat a certain phrase to her. Also, Kim doesn’t disapprove of your interest in the Smoker on the Balcony. He thinks it’s adorable.

lack of high intelligence leads to you not getting an encyclopedia checks, and encyclopedia popping up every 10 seconds to tell you more about this magnificent world is one of the best things about it. jamais vu.
