    Seeing Brady's political awareness organically grow in real time is amazing. This game does a great job at showing the mechanisms of political struggle in practice instead of just lecturing you or giving you abstract ideological choices. "Who benefits?" is actually the most important question you can ask in politics.
    Now if only chat would shut the fuck up for a moment and actually let him explore the game instead of backseating constantly.

      @@shotguncrucifix Yeah, people reducing politics to "team sports" only get half the story. This is true only of the most superficial party politics fed by media and approved by the establishment. There are real conflicts of interest underneath all that and it's worth knowing some political theory to be able to articulate these dynamics more precisely and root them in a historical context.

    Honestly though, I think you should get an idea of how you wanna act and embrace it, no matter what the chat says. I just wanted to say, as a recovered alcoholic who related deeply to this game, your series is amazing. When I first started playing this game, I was in an MAT program but not yet sober… there was a certain desperation to my character choices, mainly not using any drugs at all and wanting to save him. The dream on the first night kind of broke me… seeing him hanging there was THAT moment where it really hit that I was killing myself.
    I thought that seeing an addiction therapist describe some of the processes would be peeking behind the curtain, but instead, I’m learning more than I ever could have hoped for. Thank you for your work ❤❤❤

    • @LiamWhittle-tm7yo
      @LiamWhittle-tm7yo 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I'm in recovery myself but I've never heard of an MAT program. What is that? Is it like a country specific thing?

    • @chickennoodlesoupbaby
      @chickennoodlesoupbaby 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LiamWhittle-tm7yo MAT stands for Medicated Assisted Treatment program, you usually hear about them in the context of opioids however the medication (Vivitrol) also works for alcohol! There’s other medications as well that doctors use, naltrexone, gabapentin, etc.
      The way it works for me is that I get a monthly injection of vivitrol, which to put it in basic terms, blocks your brain from the “reward” you’d normally get from alcohol. Once I started the injections, I immediately went from ~10 drinks a day to 4, my body couldn’t stomach any more without getting violently sick the next day. Then, I spent the next year fluctuating between 1-4 drinks on any given night while discussing this all in therapy. Eventually, you are retraining your brain to no longer associate alcohol with pleasure.
      MAT centers are kind of an all in one office stop, and you also go in for therapy (covered by insurance! I could never afford therapy before!) Instead of quitting drinking right away, you start to taper until you reach what they call “extinction”- where the desire to drink is no longer there. Meanwhile, the therapist isn’t telling you “you have to quit”- they’re letting you reach that conclusion yourself. Harm reduction is the model, my therapist was like “if moderation is your goal, I will help you achieve that”. It took a year of “moderation” for me to realize that moderation is the work of sobriety without the benefits, and come to my own conclusion that it wouldn’t work (instead of just being told, “you can’t moderate”. Alcoholics are contrarians and don’t like being told what to do lol)
      I tell people that the first day ACTUALLY sober after doing this program (which also kind of uses the Sinclair method I believe) is soooo much different than your traditional first day sober. Instead of feeling like the start of something, it feels like the end- like letting go of something that no longer serves you, instead of having it taken away.
      I think every alcoholic should know about these programs because they WORK. I think what makes sobriety so hard to commit to is it’s all or nothing, and so many people aren’t ready to take that leap of “no more alcohol ever again”. MAT programs allow/require you to continue to drink while being in recovery and working on yourself, which i think is very alluring to alcoholics and removes that big mental road block of “no more”. Compared to AA (not digging on it, it works for many!), which is more like “when you get sober, the spiritual growth will follow”, MAT is more like, “let’s get you some spiritual growth, and then sobriety will follow”
      Always happy to spread the good word!

I know you had no way of knowing at the start of the game, but all those Electrochemistry points *could* have been invested elsewhere, and you wouldn't have voices telling you to smoke and do drugs. It does make a nice role-play of the man trying to overcome his intense addiction.

    Hey Brady! Still loving the LP. I know the stakeholders here can be confusing so here's a spoiler-free summary of the factions involved.
    1. Wild Pines - they are a multinational shipping company that owns the Harbor. This faction is represented by Joyce.
    2. Union - these are the people who actually work at the docks, and have a very militant labor union that is attempting to seize more control for themselves. This includes everyone in the Harbor, as well as the Hardie Boys.
    3. Hardie Boys - these are union members, and act as enforcers for Evrart and the union.
    4. Krenel mercenaries - these are hired by Wild Pines as subcontractors, but are loose cannons who aren't reporting back to Joyce. As you know, the hanged man was one of them. They're traumatized career soldiers who are dangerous.
    5. The Moralist International - this is basically the global government, like the UN. The RCM, and by extension your, power comes from their association with the Moralist International.
    I love watching you meet and interact with all these different groups, and the theories you're coming up with!

    really enjoyed this as always. one thing about the game's mechanics, because you hilariously failed that logic check with 83% (wtf, though):
    if you equip consumable items like cigarettes in your hand before starting a conversation, you can use them during the conversation to boost your stats (in case of cigs: intellect). that's important because you can't access your inventory during a conversation and sometimes you can't back out of or return to a checked response

    Sometimes there is a difference between who people _represent_ and who these people *are*. Thus the primary detective question here isn't "who benefits" or "who doesn't benefit"... Go a level deeper: "what are they telling you freely and what are they omitting? Depending on their motives and/or personality: What can you actually infer from the information they do (or don't) provide?"

  • @thelxr
    @thelxr 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Hey-hey. :3 Still a great watch!
    If I may, two small tips, that could help with playing this while streaming.
    Most focus seems to be lost in coversations, when you don't assess remaining dialogue options after an interesting rant about the psychology of the situation.
    Usually you have one sensible option remaining to be asked in almost all interactions - e.g. with Sylvie there was also an option to ask where your police hat was, beside the obviously bad choice to ask her out - there's no harm in that. Once again, not criticising - I get impatient with the game too, but when you had a whole line of questioning her about your badge, gun, and then uniform... don't back out at the last option about your uniform hat! :)
    And a simpler tip - lines that start with "Wait..." and "Hold on" are always "free" extra info, there's almost never a reason to skip these - these are there to help you re-focus or add context.
    Anyhow, great work as always!
    Got my own doc on the last session to do a disco elysium personality breakdown on me - that was fun and productive, actually. :3

    I'm not just curious how you react to the game Brady so don't be afraid to just choose what you feel is what you want to choose that's how a lot of us play anyways I think and that's why I'm mostly curious how the game reacts to you. However I believe the prior is more beneficial to my learning. And please don't worry about how fast your progressing cuz really the game doesn't have a time limit you just don't want to kind of skip through a lot of stuff but that also affects the outcome, I feel like as also an analytical person myself sometimes it can just be hard to stop and smell the roses or live in the moment and in my opinion I wouldn't mind at all if you just acted like you weren't even streaming if that's what you wanted to do. Great content my friend.

    The reason I distrusted Kim in my first play through was that he always steered me away from questions about The Pale, it’s like what is this Pale? He’s always like, “it’s just The Pale, don’t worry about it.” Im like, “ this stuff literally eats people’s thoughts i don’t know… sounds like something to be worried about.”

      @@cleverman383 They are professionals. Doing a job. An extremely responsible, high stakes job that gives them authority and power over others. This isn't about "accepting you" or "changing you". This is about you behaving like a lunatic during an important investigation, possibly compromising it.
      I'd like to see your face when the policemen investigating a case related to you start talking about "psychic energies" and "mystic visions". Kim is being incredibly accomodating and tolerant as is, being disappointed he doesn't approve of your mumjo-jumbo antics is just childish and ridiculous.
      I like playing a deranged Harry as much as the next guy, but it's clear this isn't acceptable behavior and in a sane world, he would be sacked. Applying standards appropriate for personal friendships to this situation is just ludicrous.

    • @cleverman383

      @@ImVeryOriginal It's not deranged to believe in the supernatural. I literally get information from Inland Empire and Shivers which I have to lie to Kim how I know it or he'll hate me.
      He even hates you if you insist that you've lost your memories. Never at any point in the entire game does he ever believe that you have amnesia. Your only option is to downplay it and lie to him if you want him to like you.
      And just a reminder, this a universe where the fucking Pale is a fact of reality. If you know what the Pale is, then you know that having supernatural visions isn't actually that crazy of a thing in this universe.
