    I convinced a friend who never plays video games to play Disco. When she met Cuno, she said to me in like 3 minutes "He talks like a victim of abuse. He must have a violent home life."
    Goes to show how well this game communicates some issues.

    I think the fact Cunoesse find being left out of the conversation more distressing than having a gun pointed at her tells us alot about her.

  • @fivegears
    @fivegears 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +84

    So the takeaway for me is that you *shouldn't* give Cuno speed? And that I should keep the speed for myself? And to ensure Cuno doesn't get the speed that I should take the speed? That's it! We can help the children of Revachol by doing speed!
    Seriously, though, that the quickest way that you can get Cuno to "behave" is by punching him in the face kinda sums up everything you talk about pretty nicely. I was genuinely shocked that Cuno actually accepted the book. I didn't give Cuno a chance.

      Also Cuno will not properly be open with you if you punch him. If you don't punch him, checks become much more easy and he will let you sell an special item + extra dialogue if you find a peacefull way to gain his trust.

    In your playthrough a school has been mentioned once, by Annette specifically. She says it’s more like a “charity” tho and she doesn’t even attend because her mother doesn’t let her.

    I would be very interested to know what the rise of social media did to kids living with them from the birth. I got on the internet only when I was in highschool around 2007 and there was no culture of everyone having recording devices in their pocket ready to post anything embarrassing you do online or being friends online with people you've never met irl. I would love to know what that does to a developing brain.

      hello, teenager here. i had unrestricted access to the internet from the moment i was able to hold a phone. it fucks you up, psychologically. i have a very short attention span and the isolation i experienced during my early childhood (because of my preoccupation with entertainment) resulted in a lot of antisocial tendencies - i struggle with empathy and i get antsy if i'm around people for too long. also: in the past i've used it as a coping mechanism so that i can avoid confronting reality. whenever something bad happened i'd just retreat into my own inner world and ignore it

    great video! My suggestion will be that when you do analysis of a character you can perhaps quote some of the lines that he/she said and his/her specific behaviors in game to complement your theoretical analysis

    My IRL Encyclopedia stat is going crazy! Do you do this sort of deeper analysis where you expose the viewer to these professional systems and theories like the ecological model in your other series, or is this unique to your Disco Elysium playthrough?

    Communists would say that cuno is like that because of the material conditions of his upbringing
    Which is completely wrong. Cuno should have just taken personal responsibility and lift himself up by his own bootstraps and pull him and his family out of poverty

    I really don’t want to spoiler you, but there is a rare option towards the end of the game that can lead to a lot more cuno resolution. I am not going to say anything beyond suggesting you start using different manual saves between sessions so you have the option after finishing the game re load and play the cuno content because I think you will be very interested.

    You asked for game recommendations a while ago too, and I posted some there, but I think I didn’t mention Silent Hill 2. Admittedly, what hasn’t been said about Silent Hill 2? But that game is perfect for psychological dives.
    Also, I just finished playing Signalis, which is a great game in its own right, but I think it could have some content for mental dissection, in a world with a Nationalistic, war centric Macrosystem and how that affects main characters as children and then adults. It’s a spooky scary game though, so I leave that decision to you.

    • @eurobrady
      @eurobrady  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I have Signalis on my list to play! I've actually never played a Silent Hill but always been curious to, so it's now back on my radar since it's been recommended a few times now. Thanks!

      If i recall correctly, there is also a silent hill game where the prologue starts you the protagonist in therapy... Silent Hill Silent Memories?
      Might be interesting to see as well, if you'd like.
      Though, it's a psp game and I don't know if there's a PC or any other port.

    What's interesting about the game (and why I love it) is that you could've explored Cuno's world IF you punch him, whether you fail or strike him.
    **ACTUAL SPOILERS FOR PUNCHING A CHILD**
    If you punch his gremlin face, he instantly respects you more. Because he is used to that "violent shit, crazy shit" as he would probably put it. It's the only way he knows and understands the world.
    Also, the responses you can give when you punch him? Actual horrible things. Blaming him making YOU do it. Or telling him sarcastically "I think we can talk right now, isn't that right Cuno?" is scary dialogue for Harry.

    • @tealGalaxy
      @tealGalaxy 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      MORE SPOILERS, THIS IS SPOILERS ON TOP OF SPOILERS
      The only way you can 100% confirmed set Cuno up for a "better" life is also locked behind this interaction. If you punch Cuno and Kim is injured in the standoff with the Mercenaries you can then bring him along for the final leg of the game and you can recommend him for RCM training. Whether this will actually be good for him or not (all you have to do is look at some of Harry's peers at his division or listen to what Kim has to say about some other officers to know how ugly things can get) is up in the air but it is the only way to be sure he gets out of the swamp he is mired in when you meet him.

    To address your concerns about schooling: the book the creator of the game wrote set in the Disco Elysium universe indicates school isn't free in Revachol. Kuno's dad isn't paying for school, hence he doesn't go. Annette also references charity schools, which are free but of significantly lower quality. Her mother makes her help at the shop instead. If you really mess up at one specific point, your Volition will chide you for wasting the schooling your mom worked so hard to give you, but that phrasing is still vague enough it doesn't give us a lot of insight on how school works in Revachol.

    When it comes to politics, I'm reminded of a point later on where an action presented as a political statement is really about a lonely man dealing with his own social isolation and jealousy.
    I really do feel the politics is a distraction from the fact that most of these people have more immediate, local problems that they're unable to properly deal with.
