Let's talk about how weird and gross our bodies are. The next one is up for Patreon supporters, coming to YT shortly. I talked with Klaasje again...I may have had a meltdown www.patreon.com/bradybyrne
Next up, my favourite scene in disco elysium. Get Fucked, Brady! (this aint hate, but im going to enjoy watching Brady suffer)
I swear to god brandy is gonna legitimately go insane if the game keeps predicting exactly what he’s thinking
There is a non-zero chance that someone's psychosis has kicked off with the delusion that Disco Elysium is legitimately reading their mind.
You already asked Kim if he had those voices in his head, he does not, but instead uses his notebook to write his thoughts
Yes, pretty sure Harry is more or less unique in the way his thoughts speak to him, possibly as a result of _whatever_ caused him to lose his memory.
@@spectral_force5097 There's enough in the game that points towards Harry always sort of having been like this, especially in regards to personifying his thoughts and having a 'though cabinet'.
@@spectral_force5097 He was probably like this before he lost his memory.
other things imply kim does have his own skills. the clothes merch give kim's outfit their unique stats. but i like the common fan theory that when kim uses his skills, it is just himself. not a seperate mind entity.
@@spectral_force5097 Some people genuinely organize their thoughts the same way that Harry does; it's not entirely rare, even if people like you, me, or Kim can't innately comprehend it.
I think you talk more about *not* talking about politics than the game *does* talk about politics 😅 It's okay brÖther
I blame the wömen
They’re oathbreakers
Therapist treats Harry with CBT (and also therapy)
Cøck and bøll torture
Electrochemistry would 100% have him showing up to a CBT session with some expectations which may not be met
1. What's CBT?
Encyclopedia [Medium: Failure] - Cock and Ball torture. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, at e n dot wikipedia dot org. Cock and ball torture (CBT) is a sexual activity involving application of pain or constriction to the male genitals. This may involve directly painful activities, such as wax play, genital spanking, squeezing, ball-busting, genital flogging, urethral play, tickle torture, erotic electrostimulation or even kicking. The recipient of such activities may receive
There's this poem called "Wild Geese" by Mary Oliver, which says
"You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves."
Omg I because of the topics of this video at the end and mentioning the Pale, I realised that throughout the game, Shivers and Esprit Du Corps talk about several events outside of Harry's life, and that may be exposure to the Pale, where memories of people are overlapped. I guess some people may have made that correlation, but that just blew my mind
Holy shit
That's one of the best playthroughs I've seen of this game. I love when people actually have diacussions in let's plays of narrative heavy games as opposed to just reacting to the funny lines.
Outside of that i really enjoyed your analysis. It's fascinating how often you can describe in detail behaviours and thoughts i had at points in my life.
Talking about empathy towards the body - I remember reading Zorba the Greek, and there is one passage where Zorba is trying to get the narrator of the book to stop work for the day and have some dinner and wine; the narrator refuses, to which Zorba replies with 'Remember: your body has a soul, too'.
Even though this is just a... Simple aphorism, somehow it really 'clicked' with me, and helps to remind me that my body AND my mind are deeply intertwined. By remembering it, I've found it easier to rest, and be kinder to myself.
Reminds me of the interactions with Coach Physical Instrument. Also I love the dreams, even though they're so far apart, they really go deep on Harry's inner thoughts and feelings.
I actually never thought about what you mentioned at the end, how if you kept both subjects in one video, one might draw all the aggro so to speak. I think splitting em up was wise, even if it was short!
self empathy is fascinating to me, and sometimes I wonder if I'm a bit too permissive of my body, but I guess that's a better problem than being too harsh!
the part about "talking" to the body really fucking hit me, and honestly, kinda made me realize how terrible I am to my own body.
I wish had this when I was a teenager when it would have been easier to take care of my body properly. now that I'm in my early 30s it feels much for difficult
I know it's probably dumb but I guess this was the final thing I needed to convince me to go to the gym and actually commit for real. I can definitely feel my body's resentment over how much I've mistreated it
I've never felt guilty about doing things that are pleasurable but I do feel guilty for not going to the gym and actually get into shape
that part of the video should really be shown to teenagers in high school and just people I general. that legit shook me
GOOD JOB BRADY I AM PROUD OF YOU
The part about dialogue between your mind and your body is fascinating.
I never even thought about how much we demand from our bodies and don't really give anything in return.
I’m an artist and liver damage is my art form
Day 2 done! Great play through with some great and unique commentary!
Kim doesn’t have voices but I did once see an interesting interpretation of what his skills would look like. They made it look like they were drawn in a notebook.
My therapist recently brought up Internal Family Systems with me. Do you think IFS could apply to Harry? His relationship with his body seems ripe for exploration.
Absolutely. Direct dialog with his parts could do a lot to help heal the relationships with them. The questions often asked in IFS are about what this part is protecting or what that part feels when you do something. I recommend the book No Bad Parts for reading on the subject.
HOLY SHIT HE FINISHED A DAY, WE ARE A BIT CLOSER TO WALKING INTO THE SEA LETS FUCKING GO
Now the split makes more sense.
Fascinating insight into the ways we treat ourselves and how personification can make us more understanding. In the protagonist's case here, I also feel that personifying all his feelings, internalizations, intrusive thoughts, and even his body serve also as a mode of distancing himself from these parts, too. Like the game comments when you take the Boring Cop route--he still *thinks* all those other insane things, he just chooses to express the most boring of them. It's sort of like you say--it's easy for him to think of his body in times of stress and just express sentiments like "Fuck off!" or "I don't want to be this kind of animal anymore."
Thank so much for this episode. This and one of the Cuno's eps really helped me.
Thank you, seriously.
I'm so excited to see the people you'll meet on the other side of the bridge, now that it's gonna be repaired!
Great series!
Other people have their own skills, though not necessarily in such verbal communication. For instance, Kim has a skilled called Volta Do Mar. This is a reference to a nautical maneuver "where the pilot first had to sail far to the west in order to catch usable following winds, and return to Europe. This was a counter-intuitive sailing direction, as it required the pilot to steer in a direction that was perpendicular to the ports of Portugal." It's Kim's ability to keep tasks and conversations on track.
Love the narrative aspects of the playthrough, it's educating in its own way therefore making the entire experience of watching much richer! All best!
They might be making new organs for this! We've had two cases of genetically modified pig kidneys being transplanted in the past two months. So far so good. Very promising stuff, just saying.
It would make my day if you did a video on Synecdoche, New York! I watched it for the first time last year and there are so many things to analyze in it!
This episode is super interesting to me as someone who is super uncomfortable with acknowledging my body
i find your takes highly facinating
Really enjoying this Disco Elysium series.
Thank you for your work!
The pause after "my favorite movie is..." made me think you would say Osmosis Jones lmao
It's been a while since your last talk with Kim, so definitely explore all there is to talk about with him when next you're able.
As someone who's struggled with being overweight in the past, I also dabbled in personifying and antagonizing my own bodily functions, and not slipping into the spiral of self-critique is definitely something I struggled with back then and am still struggling to this day.
And, funnily enough, right now as I'm finishing a playthrough with Pain Threshold and Half Light being my primaries, Pain Threshold definitely resonates with me as that aspect of personality that allows you to persevere and overcome (good grief, 'screw-you-for-being-fat' attitude really did a lot of heavy lifting for me back in the day), but, if not kept in check, will be actively harmful as it prods at you for not being able to withstand whatever you might expose your body to.
Synecdoche, New York is a masterpiece! Like Disco Elysium. Wondering if Brady could recommend more content that has such a good grasp on the psyche.
my psyche is very disco and antogonistic actually. Im really cool
This is very interesting. I've not met someone who knows Synecdoche, New York, that's cool.
I remember this dream when I first played this game. All of the choices in there are absolutely brutal and tragic
I like the idea of dialog with your own body to turn it into something you can more easily empathize with. Maybe I'll treat mine a bit better that way...
wake up honey! new eurobrady video dropped!
Is the "Oh man, I'm in so much pain, I might die tonight, I really hope I don't..." conversation that abnormal when something....well....abnormal is going on with your body like your side really hurts or your heart is racing like crazy, heh?
I played the and Im interested in a therapist interpretation by just dont have enough volition (get it?) and time to watch through all the streams! So I humbly request a video of just interpretation parts.
Good morning psychonauts, we're making it out of the inland empire with this one
11:00 have you been keeping up with the game reading your thoughts counter? :3
Was this the shortest video you have done?
Hell yeah
You know, empathy is the thought that has the most passive checks in the game (around 900). The vast majority is at 4 points (the majority of skill checks for all thoughts unlock at 4 points, btw). At 4 points you have over 700. However, there are over a hundred more passives that are unlocked by getting that skill up to 6, which is not a huge increase. Skills that you find interesting will give more insight the higher you get them, so if you really like what it has to say, you might want to put a bit more into it. If you get the thought that lets you quit drinking, that gives a point in empathy. It's located in the church across the river if you talk to a crab, plus there is a pair of shoes that gives a +1 too.
Hello i'm here to yell at you about politics. No? That's the other video? Okay...
i also like synecdoche, i had to stop rewatching it cuz it was making me feel terrible lol
Love from a CinemaTherapy and Vaush fan!
I think your noise reduction is muting/muffling the game. (including the music?)
TH-cam always flags the music in these sections for some reason, even though it's on streamer mode. It's unfortunate but sometimes I have to mute it for certain sections which also impacts the voice audio.
Algorithm booster comment!
The feeling of using your body as a machine, or just separate of you is really interesting as a non binary person, thinking "ye whatever, we'll just figure how to use this weird flesh thing to our advantage somehow" also getting old sucks, so when I started having the body break down it kinda feels like becoming a mechanist I guess.
Upload next Yakuza part plz and thank you
Coming next!
