I just have one bit of non-spoilery advice: I recommend looking at your inventory and interacting with your things once in a while when the game gives you the opportunity. Sometimes when you're stuck it may help you with certain situations, to help you find new solutions to things. Also, maybe try chatting with Kim occasionally to see if new dialogue has opened up.

they're all compromised in the sense that you shouldn't wholly trust one instinct or another, just because it's high enough skill to chime in or offer advice. This is where the reading comes in, and your feelings on what advice they give you, as a player. . Authority wants to be authoritative, empathy wants to be empathetic, volition wants to be level-headed, electrochemistry just wants drugs and sex, etc. This is why I love replaying this game, because I AM influenced by those little bits of dialogue from my skills, whether I realize it or not. The fact it's "a videogame" and the gamer urge to exhaust the dialogue means you usually just trust your in-game instincts (my skill points! they must be good!), or run through the options, which the game CAN punish you for. It's such an interesting dynamic, and really a piece of the game I appreciate - your skills are pure, and only want you to use their specific viewpoint. In a way, the person playing has to rely on their OWN volition, or authority, or empathy, to know when things don't seem right. That introspection as the player bouncing off of the suggestions your "skills" give you is something I've not seen in any other game. And yes, it's so interesting that Brady immediately distrusted his characters impulses. That's the point I think...?

Asking for someone's name is like giving a title to a new file - we will create an image in our mind of that person and associate all future info to that image,

In this episode you were talking about the importance of names at 48:08. Actually in the antient times the name of someone held a somewhat sacred place. The first words were probably names of things, and the ability to name something is tied directly to our ability to recognize the very existence of this object. Language is our main (if not only) insrtument that helps our brain store and sort the information, nameless object does not exist. For example, there is a study done about how a ceparate word for a colour can affect it's recognition among other colours (the study was done with the help of Himba people of Namibia). Furthering the topic of names, we still can see the sacresy of a human name in some languages. For example in russion language still exists the tradition of saying "i'm called ..." instead of "my name is...". It comes from antient belief that sharing your real name with strangers can end up badly for you. In the world of antient people words had magical powers (the fastest example of this would be spells, it is actually one of the oldest folclore genre). The name and its owner are tied together inseparate. In some eastern cultures it was believed that one's name will affect his destiny. And also the fist thing Adam did in the Bible was naming all the animals.
So yeah, subconsciously we still think our names are important, because it is a vital part of our cognitive instuments.

Brady i notice you haven't been trusting your skills since the Klaasje talk, but I think you misunderstood the situation. The game tried explaining that only -Klaasje- is able to deweaponize your skills and have them be compromised; it doesn't mean that you can't trust them outside of your conversations with her anymore. Not really a spoiler or anything, because this is what Volition tried saying back then too, I just think you may have missed this little point during the convo

I know it's going to be a WHILE till we get to the ending, but honestly? I'm very happy it's going to be a long road. Meaning I would be able to get more nuanced and detailed explanations that you give in the videos about the human psyche and the monologues and reactions about just about *anything* that could go for hours.

I have developed a strong love/hate relationship with this series and use it to condition myself into a better, more tolerant and forgiving person regarding other people’s mistakes and choices, and I’m talking about a kinda of a Clockwork Orange style conditioning. Sometimes I absolutely force myself to watch Brady play because I cannot quite pinpoint what exactly makes me mad, and my reflection skills fail me so far. I might, however, come up with an answer if I verbalize it here, so I just have to finally get it off my chest.
I absolutely love the psychological analysis aspect of this playthrough, but I also absolutely hate the way Brady misreads lots of stuff the game throws at him, the latest case in point being his reaction to the necktie in the last two episodes. I’ve come to realize where all this backseat gaming originates from for many of the people watching, because we’ve been cursed with the knowledge of what will come next and how Brady’s choices make the game more/less spectacular and interesting to react to. Also, some people watch these playthroughs to relive the experiences they had, and perhaps they get mad (myself included) that the decisions Brady takes will not lead him the necessary route (not a correct one, because this game has waaay more than one route you can go to complete most tasks). Maybe it’s also the OCD thing where you screech if things are done a slightly different way than they’re, very subjectively, supposed to be done, I don’t know.
I will still continue watching because it’s an interesting and entertaining perspective and a sheer goldmine of psychological introspection, but it’s wildly discomforting at times, because there’s neither value nor point in spoiling the game and trying to influence someone else’s decisions/opinions (duh). I was fine with Brady throwing away the political aspect of the game, but the paranoid fits he sometimes gets into and the way he does the necktie and some skills dirty feel like nails on a chalkboard to me.
I just had to get it off my chest in the most respectful way I could, I feel very conflicted, so please don’t give me shit in the replies, I acknowledge the way I may come across perfectly well.

Union people genuinely like him. Even the youth center construction... sure he needs land for his union business, but man, I believe him when he says he won't let villagers get homeless. So I just want to say about the neck tie, it’s kinda interesting. Like it’s kinda like the other side of electrochemistry. Electrochemistry wants you to give in to hedonism because of more physical addiction. The neck tie, well you’re probably taking it off so you might never get the whole spirit bomb option. I won’t say anything else specific except… the neck tie explains itself. And it is the idea of giving into that crazy party life style more as a coping mechanism. I guess that’s all I can say about it without spoiling it too much.

loud dudebro asshole Tie is your best friend, and will die for you... but yes, its like Harry's Id filtered thru toxic masculinity, different from electrochemistry in that it seems more emotional based, versus physical. The tie says bring chicks back to the shack, maybe its just another way for Harry to say he wants companionship without openly being vulnerable to himself.
I love the tie, but i can see how its not for everyone.

Y'know, I'm always sensitive to the question "where are you from?". I wanna say at least 60% of the people I know are foreigners and for them it's a loaded question. For many native people, learning where a foreigner is from will color their opinion of them. I prefer to wait till they ask me the question first. When we get into it, I prefer "Where do you feel like you're from?". It tells me more about that person's culture, and let's them pick the answer freely.

    There's a loophole with Evrart's letter.
Spoilers in case you don't want to know:
You can interact with the letter in Isobel's shack and pass the check to forge signatures. This way you can get what Evrart owes to you without letting him gentrify the fishing village.

The fact that you hate the necktie really sells its voice performance =D My interpretation is that because you only hear it if your Inland Empire is 5 or more, Harry is trying to distance himself from the worst parts of Electrochem (impulsiveness, addiction, sexual desire, drug relapse) by placing those feelings into a physical avatar, e.g. the necktie is a relentless party animal/thrill-seeker separate from himself. This gives him a better sense of control over his feelings and a more firm grip on reality.

That was perfect timing with the comment on masks. I really love Lilienne, she's honest and at peace with where she is. I also recommend going on the date; I never did because yeah, it felt like a weird thing to do, but I've seen a bunch of LPs and it would be perfect for this playthrough.
Also I love the tie myself, but yeah, it is annoying. There's some good stuff with it later on down the line, but you don't need to stick with it if you don't wanna.

What's fun about most of the political and copotype thoughts is the game both gives all of them a certain amount of courtesy, but also Harry *immediately* swings to the most extreme version. Like, clearly things are messed up in Revachol, one can see why it would lead to that sort of thought.

I think the negative reaction to masks as a whole is because for a lot of people they carry connotations of dishonesty. "If I wear this, how am I to be authentic? How is someone wearing a mask being authentic to me?"
I think the knee jerk reaction is to feel isolated by it, hence the negativity.

Here we go - Cop of the Apocalypse (my first playthrough.) :D Maybe meet new characters and see what's on the coast first to get a better picture before deciding / entertaining the thought? It's both terrifying and on point, but this might not be the playthrough for solving that particular case - in other words looking beyond the veil / curtains of grounded reality, time and place to see what's really happening on the macro scale. Your Harry would need high logic, conceptualization, inland empire, shivers, half light, interfacing just to name few or otherwise you're left with only little puzzle pieces difficult to fit together.

I'm fascinated that the reaction to the tie seems to be very surface-level in comparison to, say, Electrochemistry. It'd be interesting to look at the tie from more of a psychological lense, I think. The tie is as much a part of Harry as the others

I've gotten into very involved argument over whether or not the Cavalry Boots in the fish box belong to Lilienne or not.
I'm of the mind that they aren't and that she fished them up and they're remnants of the armed conflict that happened here.
The guy that insisted otherwise insists that they are her boots and that her strong yellow and blue coloration is meant to connect her to other nationalists like Rene and the Yellow Mug guy.
I strongly disagreed with this notion, providing Frittte Girl as an example of a yellow-and-blue clad character that is clearly not a Revacholian nationalist.
His counterpoint is that Frittte may just be co-opting popular colors known to the locals as a corporate branding effort and example of capitol subsuming everything in its path.
Now that's actually a point I think may be pretty cogent but I still don't see Lilienne as a fascist character and still feel that if the boots were hers, there would at least be some dialogue regarding it.
Anyway, point of this whole aside is just to establish that there's at least a color connection between Brady's two favorite NPCs and, yet again, Fritte Girl presents depths beyond what is on the surface.

    • @d-pod_L
      @d-pod_L 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

We find those boots in the container, among the fish
Someone upholding revacholian nationalism wouldn't disrespect the symbol like this
Imagine Rene finding those boots, slimy and smelly
Also, the boots don't give a +1 to the fascist thought, like other political items do
Lilienne most definitely didn't go out and buy these somewhere. We see the environment she and her kids live in, they can't be picky
A spare pair of leather boots might be useful someday, somehow, and it doesn't matter if some soldiers wore them in distant past.
For the colors, we should be looking at portraits, not game models
BUT, it's not just the colors on their own. The backgrounds of the portraits is where the political affiliation, among other things, comes through.
Frittte Girl is wearing those colors because Frittte gave her a uniform. But the background color is dull, dark green.
If we look at Rene's portrait, there are clear blue and yellow spots and strokes there, but it's not really structured, as Rene mostly shakes his fist and recounts the past, he just liked serving the king and it doesn't go that deep for him.
The other fascist character that Brady haven't met yet, has a very clear revachollian background. The sun and the like, it's very very clear, what that character's thing is.
They have posters, books, they clearly interact with fascism/nationalism in a lot more structured way than Rene does.
Lilienne is probably wearing that bright yellow raincoat, because it's the cheapest option (and frittte actually sells them in game) to find. Also, for visibility on the water.
The background for her portrait is light blue, with no clear geometrical structure. It's very neutral and pleasant to look at. I think it reflects her well.
If anything, she's probably closer to the Sunday Friend in this regard (blue), like super surface level moralist, but I think that's a stretch.

You might hate the necktie cause it represents that part of yourself that just wants to party and take drugs, he's the enabler. BUT don't dismiss everything he says. He's also the part of you that just wants to help you by making you forget about your troubles. I think deep down he has good intentions. Just like the main character, all the voices in his head slowly change as you progress the game and they get affected by the things you do.
So my suggestion would be - don't get rid of your friend, endure. You might change your mind about that little guy.

Loving the way you are warming up to Kim and wanted to call back to the very first day - before you even say a word to Kim espirit de corps chimes in and says something like "this man is your half brother".
When thinking about "moving on" from your past, from trauma, I had this thought - We are a collection of our experiences, our memories. And so nothing is truly left behind, we carry these things with us wherever we go. I think "moving on" is just learning how to carry the burdens.
