Tagging onto what other people have said about the checks: Disco Elysium is a very unique game. In most games, when you level up a skill, that skill gets better. In Disco Elysium, it's more accurate to say that when you level up a skill, that skill gets "louder". More likely to interject itself.
Youre not just building your skills youre building your personality. I kinda love it. Such a cool system

in an earlier stream you said it bothered you when everyone kept telling you "everything is political" but i swear, i LOVE your "everything is psychological" approach to the game. you've opened my eyes to elements of the game ive missed entirely and it made my favorite game bloom all the more. i hope after your playthrough you watch a political analysis of the game and are able to get the same feeling you give me, because its beautiful. thank you.
I really enjoy Noah Caldwell-Gervais' analysis/review. extremely good. its not specifically political, but it does include it. I find him a delight to listen to.

I do feel the need to point out something you maybe didn't realise (judging by your reaction with Evrart) - that Finding Gun is more than just about Harry needing it or not needing it. That you don't have it means that there is some civilian in Martinaise running around with an RCM firearm. And that's pretty terrible for a Lot of reasons!
ik there’s a lot of deep discussion in this video (as always), but my favorite part by far was when you talked to Frittte Girl about the Pale 😂 the amount of genuine delight and interest you show when talking with her never fails to put a big fat grin on my face lol

I have played this game more than a dozen times from start to finish and I am still learning dialogue that I never saw before. It just shows the depth and scope of this game.

It really is fascinating how you seem mostly clueless about local politics but then near perfectly manage to see through Evrart's schemes. I guess, not being distracted by the chat really helps a lot

On the left, under your cam, you can see how the clothes you are wearing are effecting your stats. You can look at that instead of hovering over everything individually you have equipped.
It still helps to do it, because if you’re wearing something with +1 and something with -1, it won’t show up there

I might not agree with your gameplay choices sometimes but I LOVE how seriously you take the game, how you analyze it and how you UNDERSTAND what it's trying to tell you, to SHOW YOU. I always recommend Disco Elysium to people I know (mostly people I think would GET IT) and most times they don't understand it, the symbolism, the realism, the raw emotion behind every dialogue and it's so disappointing. Watching these videos is a delight.

Whenever your character has an empty slot where you can put a piece of clothing, it's usually to your benefit to put something on! I'd love to see your character with that Dick Mullen hat on from Annette more often since it means so much to him and to you!
Yeah I usually wear the mullen hat cause it has no downside and honestly looks pretty good with his uniform
The memories she experiences from the pale, are analogous with the shivers skill! You didn’t seem to catch that.

This morning I felt a little like the paledriver did. I awoke from a vivid dream, a dream so real I thought it was a memory of my past, but the more I thought about it the more I realized it never happened to me. "I never worked there" i would say, or "we never did that", and then I woke up, and for a moment I had a hard time remembering what memory was real and which was the dream, and how easily the memory i thought was real could vanish as dreams tend to do.

Since then, this series has become a part of my daily life in the moments when the baby is sleeping and I have time to myself to have a coffee and enjoy your thoughts and insights while playing my favorite game of all time.

Being a mother is a gift for which I am grateful, but at the same time I feel a kind of separation from the outside world, from the people around me, from my own previous life. Don’t forget to go back to Joyce when Kim isn’t there. There’s a really good bit of dialogue (not the Pale stuff) that only happens when he’s not around (chat told you about it a few parts ago).

Also, I don't remember how to get them but there are a few thoughts you might like: Wasteland of Reality and The Precarious World for insights into Harry's life going forward as a new, sober man, and Date of Birth Generator and Lonesome Long Way Home for a bit of insight into Harry himself. You'll probably find them on your own but I'd just hate for you to miss them.
47:44 I do enjoy that Harry can call Kim "Kim" quite a lot, depending on his choices. But it is so extremely rare to have Kim call him Harry. Maybe he did call him that when we found the initials in the Ledger, but otherwise it is Detective - or Officer.
It's really interesting how flexible nostalgia is . Like I like listening to Sovietwave (a type of music), which deals with the nostalgia some people feel for the utopian communist future promised by the Soviet Union, after it never materialsed. It's so fascinating how the happy utopia gets juxtaposed with the loss of it all, while the futuristic sci-fi gets juxtaposed with nostalgia (which is more linked to the past usually). And the fact that humans can actually create music that successfully communicates all of this complexity as one cohesive emotion is honestly mind boggling.

Good intuition on Evrart! However please note common modern misconception, often done inconsciously. That it is mutually exclusive to be a corrupted individual, looking for a personal gain, and to have genuine interest to change the social contract rules, to be "political" for a lack of better word. It may be true in most cases, but not in all of them. And it is a dangerous mistake to make, becuase when you are in situation when you have to enter some kind of power struggle, implicit or explicit negotiation with such individual, you make assumption that he is "only" planning to squeze more money and personal gain from that conflict, not to change the fundamental rules that you think you both abide to, that he will not flip the symbolic table that you are both sitting by. This could leave you unprepared when that happens, and mean death of many people that did not had to die.

I believe you can ask Joyce for money, and she does give you a bunch, enough to cover your debt at the start of the game. But it may be only available the first time you speak with her, I'm not sure

Theseus ship or however it’s spelled is a great example of this game. Especially around Harry our main character. He has forgone his past and present and in a way is rebuilding it. Should he stay the same miserable self or grow, become someone else?
Hopefully this isn’t too much of a spoiler but even if you don’t want to work for Evrart, I will say that going after the gun may lead to a part of the game that may be interesting from a psychoanalysis point of view. 🤔

also that frittte clerk dialogue was so worthwhile. seeing more evidence of her concerning herself with scientific processes feels really validating
