    Seeing a lot of discussion about the decision at the end here. Honestly, I just didn't know what a station call is...so I thought the choice was either set her free or arrest her. I thought arresting her would make her safer, but many people have pointed out that her arrest leads to her death. I didn't know that going in because I dont have as deep knowledge about the Moralintern as those who have played more or finished the game. If I had known, I would have chosen the station call in that case. Lesson learned!

      Spoilers, why you read them? Do as your moral compass and avaliable information tell you. I would've thought so as well - that it'll make her safer / mititgate the 'flight risk'. I even cheered you on ('c'mon, do it, do it, goddamit!') as I went for a different route and wanted to see what happens here. People just can't shut up sometimes.

      You still wouldn't have known she would for sure die because you can't look into the future. Which is kind of like, why this decision and so many others in life are hard. I think you did well considering your limited informational base.

      Honestly, I believe people may have gone a bit over the line in the comments section this time, with all the spoilers and assumptions. That decision is indeed one big sensible point in the community, but we can't expect you to know these bits of information that'll come in due time. It's all the context that makes them powerful. Heck, even if you knew, you're clearly acting from a role-playing perspective, and the game accounts for it.
      Hope we didn't break some of your peace of mind, as you're the one experiencing the game first hand. Needless to say, it has been a special journey for us too, although in a different way. Eager to see the next one :)

      Don't overthink it! It's alright. Station call slip is a powerless gesture against a person who's already a fugitive with a fake name, at this point might as well let her go. You did what you should have according to your RP!

      @supertavio2 I'll be honest, it does get to me. It feels like my decisions in the game get taken for my real beliefs or professional conduct too easily. I'm just playing a game here, choosing things that I think will lead to interesting discussion. But I keep seeing people infer I am actually cruel or insensitive. It's especially hurtful when it's assumed that this carries into my real life work as a therapist, where my sense of empathy and sensitivity are so carefully crafted and important to me. To see them called into question because of misunderstandings over fictional characters is really making me consider if I want to continue with this.

    Your decision here is final. Its one of the most debated decisions among the game's fans. But don't let any critical comments bother you here. Its one of the most difficult decisions in the game. Both options seem wrong.

      She's a criminal who is proven to lie and throw anyone under the bus to save her own hide. If we're meant to uphold the law whatsoever, she deserves arrest. There's definitely a bigger discussion to be had about if the justice system present is effective in deterring and policing crime, but it's hard for me to see a 'both options are wrong' situation when it comes to Klaasje's arrest.

    • @Medivh9
      @Medivh9 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +26

      @@varsoonhks3211I mean, with what you know at that point, sure it is the right decision, the problem would come from the later shivers check, but if you want to play as your character that doesn’t have that kind of knowledge it probably would seem for the best (I still hold that the citation leaves your hands clean in both senses).

      Overcompensating for the earlier compromise is the reason why arresting her felt wrong i guess.
      But then, Klaasje giving up Ruby like that was the final blow that made me arrest her. She lost all grace at that moment.

    • @tomaO2
      @tomaO2 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      In the end, it's absolutely true that she is not the murderer, and no one is saying otherwise. The job is to get the murderer. Moreover, she wasn't lying when she said she made the call, making her the reason the case is being investigated, and she did so because she actually loved the victim. She lies, and she does what she can to protect herself but she put herself open to massive risk. The shiver's check just seals the deal for me. I've played multiple games and I could not bring myself to arrest her in any of them.
      Meanwhile the "Eighth Hardy Boy" ain't no saint. I can feel bad about her too, but she's way worse. I don't feel bad about number Eight being tossed under the bus.

    Another fantastic episode as usual, but I must disagree with the suggestion that Klaasje is catastrophizing her fate if you arrest her. I think there is enough in the game to suggest that her years in corporate espionage have clued her in to exactly what happens to burned spies in this position, and she is smart and composed enough to understand that that is what lies at the end of the road for her as well if she is processed within a Moralintern facility. Not saying that your decision is wrong (it's a difficult one for sure), but we all have to justify our morally gray choices somehow hahaha

      Just to add...the Coalition government runs the world...and the corporations run the Coalition government. If she riled them up enough, they could unquestionably have her disappeared. Especially in a poor, forgotten corner of the world like Revachol. Just refer to the end of the centrist vision quest (only extremely minor spoilers here) for an example of what the Moralintern is capable of and how they operate.

    • @estugon

      Yeah, I would agree on that. Her time in espionage will definitely have taught her what would happen to her if she gets busted, so I think her belief that she may lose her life over this is reasonable.
      Tho it is also reasonable for Harry to believe that this won't happen, especially in this run. He still seems to be a little naive on how things work in this world, especially since he is very non-political. If he went full on communist-revolutionary for example I think he wouldn't have arrested her. For one because he wouldn't trust the Moralintern, but also because Titus asked him.

    around 13:00 "Even if those values lead them astray-"
    Have Titus' values even led him astray?
    This is something I've noticed a lot of people who play Disco Elysium tend to tune out pretty quickly, and it's that the RCM are *not* like the police as we think of them in western culture. Whatever your opinion - positive or negative - of the police as you know them where you live is, the RCM is openly and explicitly a tool of foreign occupation. Specifically, a foreign occupier that does not represent the best interests of the people of Revachol at all, and whose goals include keeping Revachol deliberately impoverished to use for financial colonization and prevent another possible revolution. Kim can wax poetic all he wants about whether it was the people or the powers of the Moralintern that formed the RCM, but the truth is it could be shut down in a heartbeat if the Moralintern were to decide to.
    I would argue it's very legitimate for someone (especially someone from an 'orphan district' the RCM have not policed in decades) to denounce the Moralintern and RCM as authorities that the people of Revachol should not submit to. The Union has plenty wrong with it, but as shown by your inability to arrest the Hardy Boys they have physical force to act as the police here, and as Kim himself says, the people here prefer being policed by the Union. What makes the RCM more 'legitimate' police than the Hardy Boys?

    • @stevenstulock1217
      @stevenstulock1217 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      Couldn't agree more. Many of us can't help but play the game from a modern developed western lens, but it's important to remember it was predominantly written and designed by Estonians who had many other places as inspiration that are pretty well outside that wheelhouse.

    • @daod8286
      @daod8286 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hardy Boys are pretty much an early equivalent of a red guard militia squad, like we had at the beginning of Russian revolution.
      They do have some degree of monopoly on violence, they are backed by the population and the local ruling organisation, and they have pretty good reasons to consider themselves legitimate.
      After all, you really are just an attack dog on a chain held by the people that bombed the city to shit and are currently robbing it.

      @@stevenstulock1217 the game was inspired by american crime dramas, including but not limited to true detective and twin peaks. Let's say that the foreign occupation lens is true; the coalition government practically runs the world at this point. The revolution happened 50 years ago, and theres plenty of people in martainaise who are NOT communists or anarchists, so the remaining population of nationalists and fascists in martainaise actually RESPECTS the RCM simply BECAUSE they are an authority figure. They trust the moralintern will protect them from foreigners themselves. you are MAD and LOST.

    • @RisqueBisquet
      @RisqueBisquet 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's not completely agreed upon if the RCM is a tool of the Moralintern, or a compromise between them and the people of Revocol. Although I haven't read it, there's a sequel novel by the game's writer and I believe it features the RCM fronting the revolution for Revocolian independence.

    • @CraigNull
      @CraigNull 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Is there any example in the game's text of the RCM siding with the foreign occupiers against the people of Revachol? The detectives on this case are Revocholians. Kim calls himself a proud Revocholian. Is he (or the main character, or any other RCM) nonetheless making decisions that disadvantage citizens of Revachol, for the benefit of the Moralintern? Maybe you'd say extraditing a fugitive. Though when that happens IRL it's not usually framed as one country selling out its citizens for the sake of foreign interests, and it's not like we've been apologists for industrial spies before meeting Klaasje
      "whose goals include keeping Revachol deliberately impoverished to use for financial colonization"
      Where are you getting this from? Is it in the text? How is this financial colonization implemented? How is the Moralintern enforcing impoverishment? There are no taxes in Revachol, for one
      "What makes the RCM more 'legitimate' police than the Hardy Boys?"
      The RCM has procedures and responsibilities. On the first night Kim tells us about various measures to keep the RCM accountable. They screen and train their officers and act as an institution with an exposed face to the public, the judicial system, and the local government.
      The Hardy boys don't see themselves as having the responsibility of, say, disposing of a corpse strung out in public. In fact they're the ones who put it there, and then they mock the public servants who sent to clean up their mess when the locals must sneak around them to get a corpse cleaned up. The Union seemingly doesn't realize or care that even uninvolved locals like Sylvie and Smoker on the Balcony were sick of the sight and the stench coming from the yard. This is like a group of people claiming to be "the REAL fire dept" but displaying open contempt for anyone who tries to put out a house fire they refuse to act on. We're also told the Union shook down local businesses to fund the strike. That doesn't sound like an accountable institution that takes its responsibilities seriously
      "Have Titus' values even led him astray?"
      We're not fully there yet, but the Hardie Boys' reckless attitude and loose lips, apparently in service of the values they represent, definitely comes to bite them in the ass. And again it's the RCM who have to deal with the fallout

    Just in my own way, the end is reason why I arrest Klaasje if I have the character for it. When her back is against the wall and there is even a chance she might face consequences, she throws everyone under the bus. Which is something she tries multiple times, and it really shows how willing she is to let everyone burn, but her. It is absolutely understandable, but it also explains her so much.

Technically proficient and true to the character you've built, but a horrifying personification of how patient concerns can be overlooked as self induced exaggerations, and how grindset Volition can crush another human being as tasks become a seeing of personal development checkboxes.
    I remember a while back you did a video on Volition, and I commented that I'd like to hear your thoughts a little later on. Say what you will about Klaasje, but I think the way the merc died has got to be one of the most traumatizing things a person can experience. I’d find it hard to hate someone after learning about that, and she’s certainly not wrong to feel afraid for her safety after that. It’s a shame your Harry doesn’t care about anything but getting “revenge” on this “archetype” of a person, but it makes sense from a role play perspective.

There is specific information in-game that actually explains flat-out everything about MoralIntern, and what happens to people they acquire. I don't think Brady has a chance of seeing that info though - you have to take a really unintuitive path to it.

You've been bumbling into partial evidence for days and when something tangible comes along the first thing you do is package and ship it to the station." :D I mean, this wasn't exactly out of the character for him. Knowing what is to come it reminds me of that Dark Souls quote "One day you'll stand before its decrepit gate without really knowing why."

    This video left me with a bit of a bad taste in my mouth tbh. I understand choosing options based on roleplay, but it felt like the roleplay kinda steamrolled over what a lot of Klaasje was saying by immediately calling suspicion on it. To me, the interesting thing about Klaasje *is* the ambiguity and mystery, and to either accept everything as true or to say everything she's saying is a lie is missing out on really interesting character exploration. It also felt difficult to see someone who was very recently traumatized be harangued and demonized by a person in a position of power, even if it is just fiction, and for it to go pretty much unchallenged. That said, I'm just a stranger on the internet, so you keep doing you, hope you continue to enjoy DE, as I continue to enjoy your vids!

      With this decision I felt like Brady used the "roleplay" as a shield for taking this decision. I don0t blame him for choosing this, I just think is silly justifying it through because of roleplay

    • @ic5889
      @ic5889 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @vagoerrante it's a role playing game. Of course you can play a role playing game making only choices that you irl would also make but that's clearly not what has been happening in this playthrough. Making a choice in line with the character he's playing isn't 'hiding' behind anything, that's a really strange accusation

      @@supertavio2 I agree with this. I wasn't trying to say anything about the value of the decision, I mostly wanted more engagement with the text outside of roleplaying because Klaasje is SUCH a psychologically interesting character in my opinion. I do think a lot of people in the comments are being at best parasocial, at worst shitty towards Brady, which is really nasty, and I feel bad for maybe participating in that with my comment. I think it's incredibly obvious by now that Brady the person/Brady the therapist would not have the opinions/attitude displayed in the video, and that he was just engaging with the game in the way he wanted to, which is totally fine!

      @@evil-doer I agree that Klaasje is an extremely intriguing character. Actually, watching the video I noticed that I missed A LOT of super interesting lines from her because I always replay the game making the same decisions lol (kind of a comfort thing). The way she frames Ruby out of desperation, and just her delivery of it makes everything even more tragic. Love this game

    well I gave her a station call and she ran away. so you did ok. everyone selects the option that seems correct to them based on the available information. no right or wrong way to play really. for me, I had accepted that my character is a little compromised and wouldn't arrest the pretty lady xD

  • @RisqueBisquet
    @RisqueBisquet 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    That was indeed one of the game's boss battles! I gotta say, I'm loving your playthrough. Was the arrest the right thing to do? Lots of people prefer the station call option, but this woman is a professional spy. It's as good as letting her free. Personally, I let her go, but only because Titus asked me to. She is ultimately the smaller fish.
    The real kicker is you missed the bullet! If you had leaned into your hunches a little more, you might have caught it! Ah well. Therapy cop is concerned with the external world, perhaps to the detriment of the interior.

    Parataxic distortion?

    • @greatfiredragon
      @greatfiredragon 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Parataxic distortion is a psychiatric term first used by Harry S. Sullivan to describe the inclination to skew perceptions of others based on fantasy. The "distortion" is a faulty perception of others, based not on actual experience with the other individual, but on a projected fantasy personality attributed to the individual.

    I feel like your decision is justified, nothing really pointed to her possibly dying from arrest - I feel like even Kim would think that was going too far and would have said something if he knew that's how it'd end too. To be fair, I felt the same sort of regret when I didn't arrest her - seems like things aren't good either way.
