My opinion.. Some of this backlash would've been smaller if Ubisoft made a "fictional African samurai character" who gets taught by Yasuke. There's no reason why we played as a historical figure before, there's no reason why should play as a historical figure now. (Jack the Ripper was not a historical figure, "he" was mythical figure to the point of we didn't know "his" motive, we didn't know "his" race & we didn't know its gender)

Assassin's Creed as series has almost never been 100% faithful to real life history, and has always, from day 1 since the very first game in 2007, played somewhat fast and loose with historical accuracy. There is a sequence in Assassin's Creed 1, featuring a conversation between Desmond Miles and Warren Vidic that perfectly encapsulates the themes of the series, which is about how history is written and shaped by the victors in their image, who were often corrupt and biased, meaning marginalized voices often were silenced and forgotten. There is a video by Lazzeraz which delves deeper into this topic. To me, featuring Yaskue is the most thematically compelling choice the developers could have done in my opinion

Before Valhalla released, there was a backlash to women Vikings being confirmed and I’m fairly certain a similar thing happened with female Spartans with Odyssey. Also remembered some chuds whining about women enemies and an NPC who was trans in Syndicate. It’s the same thing from the same people, bigotry and grifting off of that bigotry of a AAA game coming from a popular franchise. Also expect this discourse to die off immediately.

The content creator of This video showed the disclaimer from Ubisoft declaring the game as fiction. So Ubisoft admitted it’s fiction. So why be so angered about it? How is this game trying to change the history of Japan? Japan’s history not just about samurai and bushi. There has ways been historical fiction based on every culture. I don’t see real Japanese people caring about this. Maybe some diehard hikkimori or American Japanese maybe offended… I really don’t know. I will say this… a lot of those comments that are supposedly Japanese are suspicious… they use terms like Woke and DEI. Those are terms used in the USA. One actual Japanese content creator made a video about it. And he had the wrong definition of DEI. He thought it meant diversity, equality and illusion. I wrote to him what it stood for diversity equity and inclusion. So it seems he got that and wasn’t truly educated on the term. All in all. I think if you don’t like it, for whatever reason, don’t buy it. Let others decide for themselves.

Can’t get behind this game it’ll be the first assassins creed ever I don’t purchase I’ve always been a huge fan and I’ve always been excited for them to go to Asia and I’m so disappointed they simply treat Japan as a aesthetic backdrop to their game with historically accurate slapped on the box. Not to mention ac jade is just a mobile game. It’s so sad I looked forward to this game since the first release.

When the multiplayer co-op servers eventually shut down if they are smart, they'll make a quick patch that just adds the weapons and armor that are locked strictly to the multiplayer and just unlock them from the onset and make them free for everyone

I don’t really like defending Ubisoft because they have a sexist history but people are bashing Ubisoft for all the wrong reasons. Ubisoft is sexist not racist. Also the pricing is mentioned a bit but not enough and what I don’t understand is no one has mentioned the pricing for the gold edition! The ultimate and standard edition has always been that price since 2020 when games were getting revamped for new generation gaming consoles. The gold edition though is $10 more. That might not seem a lot but that’s still cheeky and scummy to raise a price for something that doesn’t include anything special. The whole point of getting the gold edition was to save money from buying the dlc expansions and game separately. But you’re not saving any money from getting the shadows gold edition. The dlcs might be hit or miss too and if ng+ gets added the dlcs will probably be on sale anyways. After Valhalla’s dlcs im definitely not buying another dlc until they’re revealed. I also don’t need to play shadows early I’d rather wait until the bugs get patched anyways

Since the community challenges are no longer available they needed to just patch the game and unlock all of those outfits for free, that or just put them in regular treasure chests all over the game and outside of loot you basically get to find a random one in each chest.

Yeah Assassins Creed Valhalla had like 10 billion hours of gameplay and 90% of the weapons and skins weren’t unlockable in game. It did have the option to grind mindless weekly tasks in a random opal market. That was such a bullshit hook they created. The best thing they had was the bobblehead costumes and they are only for a holiday then disappear.
