I'm Japanese.
Do you want to make it a race issue because you can't understand the mistakes of Japanese culture and history which is mentioned in this game?
The problem of all about of this is the promotional interview videos and articles prior to the game's release that said "we have hired experts who know a lot about Japan, we are faithful to historical facts and respectful to Japan".
After Japanese got angry, they made the excuse that this is just a fiction.
But they didn't make any videos or articles for overseas, just for Japan.
However, because they didn't make it clear what was fiction, the number of people overseas who misunderstood and believed in it increased tremendously.
And they are beginning to rewrite Japanese history selfish.
This was due in part to the fact that there were people who genuinely believed in Thomas Lockley's novel as if it were fact.
Do you think that a person who was under Nobunaga's command for only one year and three months could learn a foreign martial art and achieve military success?
Was there such a person in your country?
There is no primary evidence that Yasuke was a samurai, and if you know the history and culture of Japan, you know that it is impossible for a person without a last name to have been a samurai.
He may have been a bushi, but he could not have been a samurai.
And there is absolutely no way that a tile would be placed on a torii gate at the entrance of a village.
A torii gate is a gate to a shrine, which is a sacred area, and kawara are 100% not placed on it in Japan.
For example, in your country, do you have a culture of placing a covered church gate at the entrance of a village since ancient times?
And how can there be cherry blossoms in the spring and silver grass in the fall at the same time?
I have never seen the four seasons messed up, at least not in my country.
In addition, photos taken in the 20th century are used, even though the story is set in the 15th or 16th century,
crazy square tatami (If they had ever been to Japan, they would not be able to do such a thing professionally),
The clothes worn by the commoners are not Japanese clothes, and non-existent kanji,
A character wears a flag from the Battle of Sekigahara, which took place after Yasuke left Japan,
barbaric acts in the streets wearing armor with family crests (family crests are like the Coat of Arms in the West),
They explained the situation with a big lie: "In those days, witnessing death was an everyday occurrence, and most people in Japan at that time died with their heads cleanly cut off.",
confusing shrines and temples (e.g., equating churches and mosques),
katana on the right hip (even if he was left-handed, the katana has to be held on the right), and many others.
No previous AC series has been so insulting and sloppy with nothing but mistakes.
Don't you think it's terrible to say that it's ridiculous to be offended by that because it's just a game?
Or are you gonna say that my opinion is right and yours is wrong because it doesn't matter to me?
I agree with everything you say I am not Japanese but learn a lot from anime like the culture I feel like double stander they do not do mistakes use other like war banners that own by someone they put in game with out asking or Shinto gate front village are have Chinese thing there so on they did not do mistake like that like past games why this so different this one of them I want make for years now they half aing it
they will ignore that my friend, because they dont care. They will call you a fake-japanese or a racist, not understanding that they are the racists.

"No previous AC series has been so insulting and sloppy with nothing but mistakes"
Assassin's Creed Valhalla featured weapons from the 16th century, 11th century Norman-style castles in England, and 11th century stave churches in Pagan Scandinavia in a game set during the 9th century, presented the Norse as a tattooed, fur-wearing stereotype, showed the Picts as skull-adorned barbarians wearing loincloths in the snow, and falsely represented the Christian traditions of Easter and Halloween as coming from Pagan precursors in accordance with a widespread cultural myth. Not a single Norseman is represented in historically accurate mail armor. You can't even wield a single-handed sword in the main game, only two-handed swords, despite the fact that two handed swords would not exist in Europe for centuries. By comparison AC Shadows is extremely accurate. You can watch Brandon F.'s playthrough of Assassin's Creed 3 and Gold and Gunpowder's discussion of Assassin's Creed 4 to see the copious number of historical errors in each of those games. If you want to criticize Shadows, then criticize Shadows, don't make assertions about the previous games if you don't know what you're talking about.
Yasuke sword is literally Zoro sword from One Peice. Some Japanese person literally pointed that out on Twitter. Is Ubi really making this up.

There's also, as mentioned, Aveline and Adéwalé, the main characters of the side games or DLC. Then there's Shao Jun and Arbaaz of the AC Chronicles games. So there's 6 non-white main AC characters, and there's 8 white main characters (of only the main games), which are Ezio, Edward, Shay, Arno, the Frye Twins, Kassandra, and Eivor. 9 or 10 if you count Haytham and or Havi. To me, this doesn't really matter, but here it is, for the sake of statistics.
It is important for Japanese to keep a record of "complaining of being insulted."
The petition and the number of signatures are proof that we Japanese have not been silent. That is the greatest significance of the Japanese signature drive.
It doesn't matter who first asked for the signature.
I am proud that the Japanese are at the center of it. Because I am Japanese.
Most of the Japanese people who are doing the petition activity do not think that the sale of the game will be stopped by this signature, and they sign after understanding that.
We are not opposed to the fact that a black person is the main character, and the fact that Yasuke is the main character itself is a certain historical fact.
As a historical fact, black samurai did not exist, that is the fact.
Of course, Japanese understand that games are fiction.
The problem is that Ubisoft has stated in various promotions that Yasuke was the black samurai of a great hero, and they have also stated in press releases to various media that "black samurai existed in Japan" in full.
From only the official PV that has been released, Japanese can understand that they are disrespecting and insulting Japan.
However, we agree that people will enjoy the game by purchasing the game after the release knowing this fact.
Please enjoy the difference between actual Japanese history and culture, the difference between actual samurai fighting style, and the difference between actual ninja and ninja defined by Westerners like us.This is not a metaphor or sarcasm.
From only the official PV that has been released, Japanese can understand that they are disrespecting and insulting Japan.
The following is a general sense of discomfort. Probably, there are more small discomfort depending on individual differences.
・Japan and China and Korea and other Asian countries mixed together in the game.
・There are several experts of Japan, Japanese history, and Japanese culture who claim to be researchers and history consultants involved, so even though they extensively guarantee that you can "truly experience Japan" including historical research, all you can see in the PV is "a mixture of non-Japanese culture and history" or just Chinese.
・It is not a proper custom or cultural expression of feudal Japan.
・It is called hidarimae and is a kimono representing the dead. Assassin's Creed Shadows is a zombie game?
・Japanese don't bow recklessly even though they don't know who they are.
・The episode that Yasuke liberated Fukuchiyama, which is the theme of the game, is itself a fabrication. The people of Fukuchiyama are grateful and indebted to Akechi.
・Architecture, placement, samurai manners, hats and umbrellas, lighting, terrain, actual nature, staging, swords, costumes, helmets, armor, samurai fighting style, everything else is wrong.
・The vassals sat on tatami mats and the master was boarded up, an improbable rudeness. Since tatami mats of that period were of high quality, it was unnatural that the place where vassals and masters gathered was tatami mats. It should be wooden.
・There are parts of the lighting that can't be explained without using electricity.
・The concept art is too sloppy, as is the case with the unauthorized plagiarism of the commercial art book that released the limited apology only to Japan.
・Concept art includes utility poles, light trucks, guardrails on the road, and crossing gate bars for trains. Japan's medieval period was too much of a technological revolution.
・The gassho-style private house of Shirakawa-go is used as it is. It is unnatural because the structure of private houses is totally different depending on the climate.
・Horses that were active in Japan at that time were not thoroughbreds. The representative horse is Kiso horse which is native to Japan.
・Why do you use animals native to countries other than Japan, not only horses but also monkeys and other animals? If Japan is the stage, Japanese monkeys should be used properly.
・Yasuke's helmet is modeled after the "May Doll" that is displayed at children's celebration events, but why not refer to the actual helmet? You can't fight with that helmet, and it's the most ancient design.
It's just a PV, but there are many other things that Japanese people feel uncomfortable and wrong about.
For example, samurai did not sit on their heels during that period. There is a reason not to sit on your heels, and if an armed intruder enters the town, the residents will run away or hate them the moment they see them.
Naoe also looks unnatural from the name to the Japanese, and it is not an act of shinobi. Only Yasuke is highlighted, but Naoe is also impossible as a shinobi in various ways.
However, all of these issues are minor things that Japanese people will accept as soon as Ubisoft retracts its statement that it was created under the supervision of experts who know Japan and is faithful to historical facts, and the head office sincerely apologizes for its rudeness to Japanese people and says "This game is based on Japan, but everything is fiction." We Japanese are angry because we can't do that little thing.

Yasuke actually existed, but he did not have a surname. That alone proves that he was not a samurai. Next, Oda Nobunaga was defeated by Akechi Mitsuhide in the Honnoji Incident, and Yasuke was captured at that time, but he was not considered an enemy and was released. This would not have been possible if he had been a samurai.
First of all, many people say that the Assassin's Creed series is basically fiction, but Shadows is different from other works. If the protagonist is a fictional character, you can immediately tell that this work is fiction, but if the protagonist is a real person like Shadows, fiction and non-fiction are mixed together, and if someone who does not know the history of the country watches it, they will not be able to tell which is fiction and there will always be a number of people who mistakenly take it as non-fiction. If this video game increases the number of people with incorrect knowledge to a certain extent, there is a great possibility that history will be distorted. Therefore, if a real person is taken as the main character, it should have a minimum of historical accuracy, or if fictional elements are included, they should be limited to parts that anyone can see as fiction.
Despite this, Yasuke in Shadows asserts that something with no corroborating evidence is a legendary samurai.
However, since this video game is fiction, all they need to do is announce later, "In reality, Yasuke was not a samurai, but a porter who served Nobunaga for only a year and a half, but the story of this video game is a "what if" story of what would have happened if Yasuke had been a samurai." But for some reason, Ubisoft refuses to change their stance that "Yasuke was a legendary samurai."
There are also many other incorrect expressions in the trailer that could be perceived as belittling Japanese people.
Given the above factors, it is only natural that Japanese people would feel very uncomfortable watching it.
Some people say, "If you don't like it, just ignore it," but if we ignore it, incorrect information about Japan's history will spread, and there is a good chance that we could eventually fall into an irreversible situation, so I think it is important to continue speaking out.
@@artpine9159 I'll be honest I'm not reading all that so idk if you already said it but although he existed there is no evidence that he was a samurai and was most likely just a big black guy that lived in Japan freely instead of being owned by the rich
I mean Ubisoft and AC were always known for messing with history. Like Connor helping Washington win the american revolution. There aren't any historical records of a native american assassin helping win the battle of bunker hill and the batle of monmouth. Or Ezio beating the hell out of the pope. Plus Yasuke was a retainer. And while yes he wasn't a samurai as all samurai are retainers not all retainers are samurai. However people are very confused on the fact. As Yasuke's wikipedia page says: "Yasuke was a man of African origin who served as a samurai to the Japanese daimyō Oda Nobunaga for a period of 15 months between 1581 and 1582" His wiki page calls him a samurai aswell. And so have many other works of fictional Yasuke's. He was treated as a retainer, comported himself as a retainer, and fought as a retainer. That is what a samurai is. Even tho Yasuke was never given the title of Samurai and wasn't ever a samurai technically he acted and got treated as a samurai in history so that's were the confusion comes from. Also this is exactly like all the other AC games were they combine fiction and non fiction and it has never confused anyone. So this won't confuse them either. And if it does well people have been debating this matter for what's like a decade or 2. Also in the trailers i didn't see or hear any incorrect expressions since they barely showed dialogue and the dialogue that they did wasn't wrong in any way. And if you mean the language well that's again always been in AC games were even tho the protagonists like Ezio are italian and exist in a time were they wouldn't speak english in that country they still speak english. But i do understand that it's hard to ignore the many inaccuracies but this has basically been a staple of the AC franchise were they try to explain that they have a diffrent history then our own universe by having things like the isu an evil pope with a magical godly artifact that can shoot laser beams, Jack The Ripper having been an assassin and having way more victims than the canonical five even having been spotted out in the open in the AC universe or the american revolution being won because of the help of this one guy that never got mentioned in our history even tho he was appearently in the room were the declaration of indpendence was being signed. Or the fact that Benjamin Franklin conducted expirements on this random egyptian box and after striking it with lightning a hologram came out. Ubisoft is known for messing with history but people know that this isn't actual history or real. Also Ubisoft isn't doing a what if scenario for Yasuke in what if he was a samurai. Ubisoft just like wikipedia writers and many others actually think that Yasuke was a samurai due to confusion.
@@MasterTemplar781 "Ubisoft, like the Wikipedia writer and many others, believes that due to confusion Yasuke was actually a samurai."
This is the crux of the issue. If this work was just fiction, they could just issue a new statement saying that Yasuke was not actually a samurai, which would be very easy. But Ubisoft never mentions that. Many people say "this is fiction," but it is Ubisoft that does not want to make the part about "Yasuke being a legendary hero" fictional.
@@artpine9159 It is just a work of fiction i'm pretty sure that as the game starts they say "This is a work of fiction based off of historical events. This game is created by people with diffrent religions, race, gender and sexuality." And technically Yasuke was a legendary hero just like Leonidas however the legendary samurai part is fictional and even tho Ubisoft isn't stating it right now at the start of the game i already said what it shows at the start of the game which they show in every game and also in this game. So that's why people never get confused about it. Even tho it's based off of real life historical events it is fictional and it does say it's based off of them not completely accurate towards them but i do agree with the fact that Ubisoft could just state or say that Yasuke wasn't actually a samurai but tbh it's ubisoft they're lazy and try to gain money i don't really think they care. And they probably don't care about the petition either.
This is all so stupid, but I guess it's kinda karma or payback for how Ubisoft and ubi Québec especially has treated the franchise with its entries.
I'll just sit back and enjoy the shitshow.

Like, there are the complaints about "historical accuracy" that were nowhere to be seen in previous games (and for the record, I'm someone who actually does have a history degree and is annoyed by some historical inaccuracies, but am entirely fine with Yasuke lol), but on top of that they keep making claims about the series that any long-time fan should know are false, like saying every previous protagonist was native to their setting... as if AC Revelations, AC3, AC4, AC Freedom Cry, and AC Valhalla don't all feature protagonists travelling to far off and/or culturally distinct lands and learning about the local cultures or peoples. Like, look at Origins' cutscenes compared to Odyssey's - they're so much more impactful because the characters don't have to pause and wait for you to input a dialogue choice! I like RPGs, but not out of AC; from AC I just want strong, story-driven experiences with characters I can get attached to, not blank slates I can project myself onto.
I'm not gonna even attempt to make a cultural argument against it, however, given hoe garbage the last 4 or 5 games have been and how little ubisoft seems to care... im all for canceling and making them start over

Not at all
I understand the controversy and i somewhat agree with it but trying to a whole game is crazy
Here’s an idea. If you don’t like the game don’t play it. It’s that simple. There’s plenty of games centered around feudal Japan and the samurai setting. Ghost of Tsushima, Rise of the Ronin, Sekiro etc. I can guarantee you that Ghost of Tsushima is a far better game and does everything Assassins Creed is known for better than anything Shadow is going to do. Just play those games and ignore this one if it bothers you so much. I’m saying this as a fan of the Assassins Creed series, I’ve been very disappointed in Ubisoft ever since Odyssey was released so I’m just gonna hold off on this one. If it’s good it’ll be a pleasant surprise, if it’s bad it’ll be typical Ubisoft. But no don’t cancel it, let it flop so Ubisoft will (not likely) hopefully learn from it and give us a game that we the fans want.
They won't.People need something to be mad at then when it releases , they'll move on to the next thing to be mad at.
Ok, but in rise of the ronin you can find “Yasuke Armor” which clearly looks like samurai armor, so don’t mention that game, it is also blackwashing!

They made mitakes in the promotional activities of AC shadows in Japan, despite of using Japan history and culture...
~3:20 It's not a historical inaccuracy though; the person who wrote this caption didn't start from a place of caring about history and take issue with Yasuke because of that, they took issue with Yasuke and are misrepresenting history in order to frame their position as something defensible, when in reality it is most likely just as political as all those comments. They're taking one element that correlated with being a Samurai at certain points in history that Yasuke happens to lack and pretending that that's what defines being a Samurai; they can present it as being about historical accuracy, but they're working backwards to get there. This whole controversy is absurd; it is not controversial among historians to label Yasuke a Samurai, and the argument that he wasn't a Samurai was, until the announcement trailer for Shadows, a fringe talking point that occasionally cropped up online. People keep making up false requirements for being a Samurai, or drawing from the more specific caste-like conception of Samurai that developed during the Edo Period (after the game takes place), but the fact is that during the Sengoku Jidai the Samurai were simply members of a lord's standing army. Although it's impossible to say with certainty whether Yasuke was a samurai based on the incredibly sparse evidence about his life, he had many of the trappings of Samurai from that period, hence he is typically interpreted as most likely being a Samurai by historians; anyone who tells you positively that he was not a Samurai is either lying or mistaken. Was he an active warrior like the Yasuke we see in the game? Who knows, the sources don't tell us that... which makes depicting him as one just as valid of a creative choice as depicting King Richard the Lionheart contemplating forming an alliance with Saladin against the Nizari Ismaili Assassins, or showing Leonardo DaVinci creating working models of his war machine designs, or showing Cesare and Lucrezia Borgia as an incestuous couple, or showing Mary Read as using the alias "James Kidd," or showing Anne Bonny escaping from prison, or showing Bartholomew Roberts as a heterochromic reincarnation of a member of an ancient subspecies of humans that created homo sapiens and inspired world mythologies... and that's a lot of examples from only a few games, but I could probably come up with at least one from each entry if I wanted. In fact, I know I could, because every single game presents at least one historical figure as a member of a secret organization, on top of all the other creative liberties they take to fill in details not explicitly contradicted by the historical record.
Now, are there historical inaccuracies with how Yasuke is presented? Absolutely! The fact that he seemingly runs around in armor all the time is ridiculous; most Samurai would only put their armor on when they were headed into field combat, not just walk around in it. They usually wouldn't even wear it in duels, only war. Armor is heavy and cumbersome, they wouldn't waste energy wearing it all the time. But that's a nitpick, not something to get the game cancelled over. And if you look back two games to Valhalla, you've got almost every character wearing a caricature of Norse clothing that looks more like something a biker would wear than anything the Norse actually had, armor that didn't exist yet (like large shoulder plates) and yet not armor that did (none of the Norse wear mail like they would historically), weapons that didn't exist yet (two-handed swords, comically large axes, springalds, and worst of all, windlass crossbows), castles that didn't exist yet (stone castles were a Norman thing, they weren't around in England during the Viking Age), and "Picts" who dress in furs and deer skulls in the snow despite being a Catholic culture that dressed the same as other Brits during that time (which seems a whole lot more insulting to a culture than showing a historical figure who happens to be a foreigner...), and yet somehow there were no petitions to get that one cancelled. The issue was never historical accuracy, that's just the smokescreen people are using to hide their real reasons for being upset over Yasuke's inclusion.
Yup and their main characters were natives of the region... so why UBI couldn't the same thing with this one? a Japanese male, and a Japanese female?
hack, we could've had Yasuke as a friendly side quest character.
this is what I found about him for randomness
"the black one"
Yasuke, means, “the black one,” in Japanese. He's been erroneously given the name of “Kuru-san,” which is highly unlikely as the word “-san” wasn't used during that period of Japanese history. He was a slave who travelled to Japan with members of one of several Italian missionary groups that arrived in Japan in 1579.
Also we can cancel it for the OUTRAGOUS price they're charging for it... like come on... £130!!
@@jokerdaace Ah yeah their main characters were always native to the region, like how Ezio was a native of the Ottoman Empire, Connor was a Native of the British American colonies (totally not a second-language English speaker who had to learn about British culture from an outside perspective), Edward was a native of the Caribbean, Adewale was a native of Haiti, and Eivor was a native of England. And no, Yasuke does not mean "the black one"; "suke" is a common Japanese male name ending, nobody knows where the "ya" comes from. "Kuru" is what means "black" in Japanese. in AC Valhalla which region you start in first? I let you guest oh wait yes FUCKING NORWAY where Eivor is native of.
and you only bring a small (2) examples that or not technical native to their region but dose have some merit to it that they could be there and they could be at their position.
suke means:
a helper
suke means “a helper”, stand for “tasuke(助け)” that means “helping”. It typically named of samurai role name, Lords got name “xx-no-kami”, and second associate got “xx-no-suke”. Nowadays, we name “suke” as a part of boy's name. It's usually placed on end. like “Kensuke”“Kohsuke” “Shin-no-suke”
so if you combine ya which could mean ( black or black one) with suke (a helper) you get yasuke, which can basically mean a black helper... but I only found that it means "the black one" not black helper or it could mean black helper who fucking cares, he is black and he was a helper
and just google Yasuke and do some research.
Because you are clearly out of fucking touch here and lying about the Assassin's Creed franchise.
@@jokerdaace AC Revelations is set in the Ottoman Empire and stars Ezio. Yep and subbed to you
I was praying you did a video on it
I'm going to play it, i just wont play yasuke, i want to play as a STEALTH character. From the gameplay I've seen, he is definitely not a stealth oriented character. I liked mirage, it was a step up from Origins-Valhalla. The people hating on it are 100% only hating on it because of the black character, which yes was DEFINITELY used to appeal to the more left leaning masses (i mean come on, they could have chosen from dozens of historical figures in japan that could have also had the same play style). But they're just being childish, the franchise is finally taking (though a small one) a step back towards what made us actually fall in love with Assassin's Creed, AND they're remaking a bunch of classic ac games to bring the newer generation to altair and ezio, maybe bringing connor and edward back as well.
There are only two types of people hating on shadows. The people that have been hating on every game since ac3. And like i said before, the white guys getting mad they have to play a black character or a women. Like, this isn't even the first ac game that let us play as either. Liberation you played a black french women, and in the ac4 dlc you can play as adewale.
I'm not white but I see this disrespect to Japanese culture as disgusting. Where do I fit in clown?
I disagree with that assumed motive. They could have made any of their previous fictional characters in majority white settings Black, if it was just to "appeal to the more left leaning masses," why would they only decide to include a Black character in a setting where a native character would also be a racial minority (in the Western framework that is)? I don't see any reason to doubt their explanation for why they chose Yasuke; he's a foreigner, like the presumed audience, so he can serve as a window into Japanese society as someone who is just learning about it, his basic story is interesting, and there are big gaps in the historical record about him, so they have a lot of room for creative license. Is it possible they selected him just cause he's Black and they want to appeal to people who want more Black characters? Sure, it's possible, but it seems like the only reason to believe that is a gut feeling, whereas the explanation they provided seems very reasonable.
thats 69.000 buyers...millions of dollars lost.. let that sink in for a minute
And how many of them actually even play assassin's creed and were gonna buy the game before they found out about the protagonists? sorry but this game will sell very well.
They don’t like Yasuke but don’t want to be seen as racist or immature for it. So, they created a fake strawman argument, claiming that Ubisoft portrayed the game as historically accurate and disrespected Japan. Then, gullible people who have never played the game jumped on the hate train.
Which is more believable Ubisoft screwed up or people created a false narrative to hide their racism and gullible people jumped on to it and any evidence to the contrary is either made up or coincidence?
My opinion..
Some of this backlash would've been smaller if Ubisoft made a "fictional African samurai character" who gets taught by Yasuke.
There's no reason why we played as a historical figure before, there's no reason why should play as a historical figure now.

The content creator of This video showed the disclaimer from Ubisoft declaring the game as fiction. So Ubisoft admitted it’s fiction. So why be so angered about it? How is this game trying to change the history of Japan? Japan’s history not just about samurai and bushi. There has ways been historical fiction based on every culture. I don’t see real Japanese people caring about this. Maybe some diehard hikkimori or American Japanese maybe offended… I really don’t know. I will say this… a lot of those comments that are supposedly Japanese are suspicious… they use terms like Woke and DEI. Those are terms used in the USA. One actual Japanese content creator made a video about it. And he had the wrong definition of DEI. He thought it meant diversity, equality and illusion. I wrote to him what it stood for diversity equity and inclusion. So it seems he got that and wasn’t truly educated on the term.
All in all. I think if you don’t like it, for whatever reason, don’t buy it. Let others decide for themselves.

And one last thing
ASSASSIN'S CREED IS NOT A HISTORICAL TEXT BOOK OR A DOCUMENTARY THE SERIES HAS ALWAYS TAKEN HISTORICAL EVENTS AND RE-WRITE THEM TO FIT IN WITH THE AC LORE
Assassin's Creed as series has almost never been 100% faithful to real life history, and has always, from day 1 since the very first game in 2007, played somewhat fast and loose with historical accuracy.
There is a sequence in Assassin's Creed 1, featuring a conversation between Desmond Miles and Warren Vidic that perfectly encapsulates the themes of the series, which is about how history is written and shaped by the victors in their image, who were often corrupt and biased, meaning marginalized voices often were silenced and forgotten. There is a video by Lazzeraz which delves deeper into this topic.
To me, featuring Yaskue is the most thematically compelling choice the developers could have done in my opinion

As for as trying to cancel the game goes, it's as likely to succeed as the boycott of Hogwarts Legacy, which went down as the best selling game of that year.
I do get the feeling a lot of the people who are complaining about the character don't understand the concept of Historical fiction. I've seen at least video by a Japanese youtuber who mocked the very idea of the concept of Historical Fiction, and then I wonder, just how many works of fiction in Japan, games, Manga, Anime, novels fall into that same genre. And how popular as a genre it might be?
In Britain, we've had a LOT of Historical Fiction, both drama and comedy over the years, and there are always some who miss the point that it's just fiction based upon real events, but not necessarily how things really went down.
There's certain youtubers who always complain about a lack of historical accuracy in certain works of fiction, usually Fantasy. This can be anything from the wrong type of weapons and armour being present to the "wrong race" of people being present in a Medieval setting. Even when that setting is something like Game Of Thrones or The Witcher or Wheel Of Time or any other Fantasy show, which is not the same thing as Historical Fiction, and aren't even set on Earth in any case. But then they insist that things weren't like that in reality on Earth, and ignore all evidence of say, black people living in Medieval Europe, like actual legal documents showing their wages, taxes, marriages and so on.
To a certain degree, some of the outrage feels a bit similar to this, but it goes beyond something so simple. Some historians (who are Japanese) say he was a Samurai, others (who are also Japanese) say he wasn't. My question would therefore have to be, why are there two camps on this issue? What is the evidence for against?
If I had a penny for every time I’ve noticed “Japanese” gamers raging about Shadows on Twitter use google translate instead of genuine Japanese I’d be able to buy the collectors edition 😂
assassins creed fans when you have to play as a black guy or a woman
Im still getting the game regardless of how people feel
I hate it... because it gonna cost me £130 and a £8 monthly subscription.
@@jokerdaace good for you buddy

Watch this ironically be the best selling AC game of all time lol
I preordered the collector’s edition which this will be my first collector’s edition ever🎉
Me too
Wouldn't be surprised. AC in Japan plus being the first next gen AC game means it'll be a guaranteed hit. Not particularly excited for it myself as I'm not a fan of Ubisoft Quebec but there's no denying it'll be successful.
Damn, could have gotten the witcher 3 with both expansions for 30 bucks. I used to love AC but the last few games are dumpster fire cash grabs with no respect for the series
@@Wyatt_Riley I need to double back and play the Witcher 3 for sure lol
But I respect your opinion. Tbh I’ve been playing AC since the first and I haven’t loved the RPG turn the series took but I hope Shadows is 🔥!
I thought the last two games were a great Viking game and a great mercenary/spartan game but not necessarily a great AC game ya know?
@micahangelo1813 Exactly. If they want to make an rpg, make an rpg, but don't disrespect the AC franchise by slapping the name on it but not attempting to make an AC game at all. RPG elements have no place in AC games. It doesn't make any sense as you are reliving a person's memories. How can you be reliving someone's memories, yet have the ability to make game altering choices? They seriously lost the plot.
cancel it in japan, who cares lol. imma still play it
wait... you willing to pay £130 for it?!?
@@jokerdaace wait for it on sell, it's gonna be a third of the price in a year or two, like most games, and wait for all the DLC and patches to release. I'm not in a hurry to play a game
@@Tony-rh2lp nah fuck that I just gonna pirate it
@@jokerdaace the normal price is 70 dollars just like any other game lol. three prices you can spend $70 $100 $130.
@@zacherypritchett9079 Yeah and it's ridiculous, regardless that they are pricing that much for a game that will probable be shallow and shit.
Helldivers wasn't priced that much, DRG wasn't either, Vintage story priced at least around Minecraft but Vintage story HAS a shit ton more content then Minecraft and is much more easier to set up mods and doesn't crash every 10 fucking min nor do you need a fucking NASA grade computer run the shit Minecraft is...
WE shouldn't be accepting these prices for things that aren't gonna be great and they don't need to be in the first place.
bro it’s a video game it’s not that deep 😭
unlike your sister...
bro wtf
This is crazy that there are so many hateful ppl in this world smh
You people are not historians but some of us are. There WHERE NO children of AMMON Who where Samurai. ONLY Blacks, ONLY Blacks where Ninja. You are playing a fantasy game where the race does not matter. So the moment you find out. OH! ONLY Blacks where Samurai and Ninjas you start attacking that fact an changing Wikipedia. The Literal definition of Shogun was given to the FIRST Black Samurai who won a war. He earned that title.
Standing here saying the Race should be Japanese is literally the problem. There WHERE NO JAPANESE Samurai!
Minamoto no Yoritomo was the first Shogun and he is Japanese, plus the paintings depict him as having Japanese facial features.
And you got the definition wrong.
Furthermore, you are 110% trolling :D
Im gonna buy this game twice. Once on Epic and then on Steam whens its released.
I love how everyone thinks people can play ghost of tsunami when they don’t have ps5 game only 💀 they didn’t ruined ac they didn’t missed the window of opportunity + for the people who wants to cancel it you are very selfish to the other people who want to play it + a lot fake Japanese accounts is In play let’s not forget that

Most of those who signed under the petition are white Americans, which is a bit ridiculous to say the least. Most Japanese players really don't give a damn about it as far as I'm aware, and quite a lot of them are happy to see Yasuke as a playable character.
I'm Asian... and I'm butt hurt about the price... are we gonna talk about that?
it will cost me £130 and a £8 monthly subscription... really? we not gonna talk about that?
yeah saying this is about “japanese culture” is just thinnly veiled racism. yall just don’t wanna play a black dude, be honest
It's not that you want honesty, it's that the only answer you'll accept is the one you made up. You want anyone who criticizes the game to be racist and thus anyone who criticizes the game is racist to you.

I guess Assassins Creed Rogue is woke because you play an Irish man in America.
Suppose Revelations too since you're an Italian in Constantinople.
Can't forget Black Flag where you're an English man in the West Indies.
"I'm Welsh" - Edward probably
Now imagine the uproar if the next game was set during the American Civil War and you’re told you are an ex slaver fighting against slavery and slave owners in the south and then the reveal trailer drops and the main character looks like Eivor😂 the woke hysteria would be insane💀
It's just a game though?
yes... and it cost £130... let that sink in.
@@jokerdaace no it doesn't
@@jokerdaace it's only that if you buy the top edition, what do you expect? A bunch extra for a higher price.
@Blue-Moldy_Cheese yeah but come on why so fucking much what are you really getting that is worth 130 what a fucking game pass for a single player focused game and don't forget the base game cost 70 too like why???
@Blue-Moldy_Cheese when it comes to Ubisoft, I can't be expecting a great game. It's gonna be shit. Look at the latest far cry 6 bloated lame shit and skull and bones... yeah, let's talk about it it was terrible.
I can name a few more but I hope you get the picture,
As a japanese person myself, sure id prefer if Assasins creed shadows was a little more historically and culturally accurate. But why is everyone so upset about it, its literally a video game. Assasins creed has never been historically accurate. I mean the whole get up of the brotherhood, leonardo Di vinci making the hidden blades?? No one cried about it then? Why now? Dont get me wrong the game still looks kinda shit but why are people actively insulted by this, its just a game.
