My bad everyone I’ve made a technical error when editing and the audio only plays out the left hand side, I guess it’s only fitting for a video about unity to have bugs lmao
I’ll make sure it’s fixed for the next video

03:00 A musketeers type comradery would of enhanced the narrative and gameplay so much, Arno definitely lacked friends to banter with especially after sequence 1. Would of been cool to see the assassin's splinter into different factions as the assassins were royalists during the French revolution, so to have a faction decide to live and fight alongside the people and rebel against the crown would of been an interesting dynamic.

I didn't play it at launch. By the time I jumped in, a lot of the bugs had been removed. It's still not glitch-free, but it's always been one of my favorite AC's.

There is a very quick way to get back into stealth, if one guard spottet you... it's called the "Beserk Trick"... shoot the Guard with a Beserk dart and you can quickly assasinate him... try it.. it's fun :)

Great video and I think that you're onto something about Unity being doomed to a negative impression by most fans. It's like a newspaper having bold headlines on a Monday that was story with incorrect data that isn't corrected with the fanfare of the mistaken sensational story. The correction is quietly tucked inside on page 10 in a small paragraph at the bottom of the page two weeks later.
Literally just finished my 3rd complete play through. I was in my 40s in 2015 and I have played every AC since the first released back in the day. I'm trying not to be a "boomer" where the newer installments of Odyssey and Valhalla are concerned because I do have other games that are _actually_ RPGs, not action games with RPG mechanics added to the game solely for marketing purposes... I just don't consider those 2 games AC games and I like different aspects of them. Just not the forced in AC part, again - only there for marketingand name recognition purposes. I *loved* Origins; but AC Unity is the game that I nostalgicly look back on thinking "What could have been" the most. It is such a shame the execs at ubisoft rushed it out the door instead of waiting just 6-12 months more. They had Rogue coming out so it's not like delaying Unity would have meant no game release... in fact I suspect Rogue being released 6 months before would have created even more hype.
I always will consider UNITY to be the last "true" AC game... Syndicate is in my top 5 AC games, but it's more of a light-hearted game than the others, and has a cartoonish quality about it, (that I love btw). I am in the minority, but I found the story between Arno and Elise endearing. I also see the plot a little differently than most. This is one of the few AC where the main motivation of the protagonist isn't revenge, but rather love and redemption for his role in her father's death. _Everything_ Arno does is for Elise. In fact, it seems he has the same mindset as Arthur Morgan about revenge... it's a waste of time. If this was the typical AC plot then it would be about avenging *his* own father. But as far as we know, Arno never tracks down Shay.
I think thebgame feels lonely because we rarely hear Arno speak or see his face except in main story cut scenes. He is mostly silemt - I mean even Arthur Morgan greet/antagonize NPCs and he will sing to himself or talk to his horse even. We know Arthur is there, but Arno is mostly silent and absent. The co-op was right idea 2 years too early and is a drag now because it is so hard to find people to co-op with and to have such a large portion of the game need co-op was actually shirt sighted of ubisoft, Imho. Try doing some of those missions solo... jeez!!
Overall, I view ACUnity as wasted potential and I mourn how it portended the downfall of the AC IP. As long as I'm not rushed by the game I love the Parkour and some (most) aspects of the combat. When you are grooving to Unity it is some massive fun - its
fluid and beautiful... until Arno gets stuck on a chair or uneven roads I didn't love the lack of a modern story, but given there was no more Desmond, I liked this variation of modern day better than Black Flags. I think the helix rifts are fun compared to the platforming nightmare of AC. III's modern day. My favorite part of Unity? Almost zero "tail/eavesdrop" missions attached to the main story!

The story of Arno and Elise was interesting, different, and for that reason better than the ordinary AC plot, as Arno's motivation is not revenge, as you say. My complain with Unity is coop, in a single player game, I dont like that, some parts of the experience solo are worse for that, this is one thing I like in Mirage for example, its commitment to the single player experience... I dont want coop back, I'm glad probably Red won't have coop. And regarding combat... what do you think about dodge with an elegant side step, as a swordsman would do, instead of that nonsense rolling move? In my opinion, combat would have been better with side steps, as Odyssey, ,Valhalla and Mirage

I personally like Unity, yes it is amazing looking, with cutscenes that make newer games blush and ashamed, Paris is fun and beautiful to explore, but the story! My god, the story is boring, I think I remember Bellec and De Sade from all the people we actually interacted. Elise was bland, the love story wasnt a story at all, the narrative was a bit messy for me. I remember the first time I played, I was thinking that in the end Elise was using Arno just to get to be the grand master, but no. She goes and tries to fight the guy and fails miserably... The story was really just meh for me, which is sad 'cause I began adoring AC because of its narrative, well thought and told stories. And I've been watching some videos that explain how Arno's character matured but I just dont see it. Should it have a sequel? Absolutely, but I'm sure we'll never get it 🤷

Before Unity came out, I felt like the only person who had zero hype about it. The French Revolution was my most desired setting, but I was a big fan of Connor from AC3 and really wanted to see him get more character development, and I was so upset that they weren't using the setting for a Connor sequel that no amount of slick demos could win me over (even though I did love the aesthetic). Then the game came out, and I watched a Letsplay since I didn't want to buy it. The first few hours won me over, I really liked Arno, I got over my bias against the game... but then by the end I was back to hating it. I felt like Arno lost all his charisma the moment he got arrested, the whole story was cliche and I never felt invested in Arno's relationships with Elise, the Assassins, or his father, and most upsetting to me, they didn't bother to explore the ideological underpinnings of the Revolution and how they aligned with the Assassin-Templar philosophical conflict at all in the story. I'm still so mad that they took a Revolution where people radically dedicated to freedom, equality, and brotherhood decided to kill anyone they saw as fighting against these ideals, leading to chaos... and instead of using it as an opportunity to critique the Assassins (a group of people literally defined by killing people in the name of freedom, equality, and brotherhood, which the Templars have criticized as bringing about chaos in previous games) they decided to blame the Templars for the whole thing while making the Assassins moderates (except sorta Bellec, but even his gripe is all about compromising with the Templars rather than any exploration of Assassin ideology). It's just... such a deep misunderstanding of what makes the Assassin-Templar conflict compelling, like they just thought "Oh the Revolutionaries did bad things so clearly they were led by Templars."
10 years later, after multiple games that have strayed further and further from what I want Assassin's Creed to be... AC Unity still manages to be the only game in the franchise I truly hate rather than just finding out of place in the series. In addition to the writing getting worse the longer I thought about it and the fact that, having now played the game, I found the parkour and stealth terrible to handle, the missed opportunity of the setting just outweighs anything else to me. I never saw a single glitch in the Letsplay I watched, and only found out about the bug issues after I'd finished watching the game (I binged it day of release, never checked any reviews till I was done cause I didn't want spoilers lol), so my perspective was never biased by that; I just really hated the story. That said, I do think it has some of the best combat in the series; being a powerhouse from AC Brotherhood always felt a bit off from what I wanted out of the series, and I think the more difficult combat is a much better fit. It's also the best looking game in the series imo. Those positives just aren't enough to outweigh what I hate about it.

I actually think Assassin's Creed Syndicate was a better game overall in many ways. Yet it is not as remembered or revered for some reason. Syndicate fixed a lot of the issues Unity had, in such a short period of time too
I don't know why this is the case
The biggest issue I have with Unity is its nonsensical, messy writing. There are so many baffling narrative decisions made with this game
There is an essay critique video by TH-camr So Says Jay, that goes into depth about it's narrative, that is worth a watch. You should do a reaction video to it.

I’ve played unity for the first time on 2020 (after dropping it back when it was released) and I still disliked it. It wasn’t fun to play (side missions and all) and the story didn’t captivate me… it does look gorgeous.

I respect everyone that likes Unity but for me personally, i find it almost insufferable. The parkour system feels super restrictive with it’s ultra aggressive lock on and having to actively break the system just to go where i want to feels terrible imo, sometimes it can feel nice but I’ve never been able to consistently nail the parkour (something i never had problems with in the previous games) and combat wise, it’s not bad but it has always felt so unresponsive to me, i have to nail timing but i’ve had so many terrible clunky battles that it just becomes a drag. I don’t hate the game tho, the story eventhough a bit bland at times was still enjoyable to me and some missions were also pretty good. If Unity os your favorite AC game then im sorry for the negativity, i like the game overall but these issues make it a lot less enjoyable for me unfortunately.

You can chain kill in AC1 and it takes some skill.
Unity is a good game. It is largely a watered down version of it predecessors, that's the way the series has been going from the start.
In some ways it is another step in the wrong direction leading up to the RPGs
