The STB Was Warned. East Palestine Derailment update. June 2024.

Everyone needs to hear this, especially the residents of east Palestine. The STB and FRA were warned about car inspections not being done correctly due to retaliation. The people who are being paid by us tax payers have knew a year prior to East Palestine.. This is BS and unacceptable. The @surfacetransportationboard8768 needs to also be held accountable for sitting by and not doing a damn thin...

The fight for 2 man crews has been going on well before I ever started as a freight conductor. With the huge derailment last year in Ohio we knew right then this showed the importance of having a conductor on the head end. The Engineer, Conductor and Conductor trainee saved lives that day thanks to their team work, Training, and preparedness. Join this channel to get access to perks: th-cam.com...

Our railroad don’t let us get off moving equipment
How many of you out there can tell me what a torpedo is? Not the maritime version.
They do it all, this coming from the son of an Illinois Central conductor on passenger til 71' and freight as a brakeman switchman starting in 59', then he bid on the Fulton KY coal run in 83', almost a 3 day round trip, hauling Powder River Basin coal from WY from the Sauget Il Hump, when he started he worked out of E StL, Madison/Venice yards then the Sauget yard was built, then the Ballwin coal haul came up for bid and with his seniority I doubt anyone bid on that one. And without 1 sick day in any of the contracts, and it's still that way to this day.
Dad started working for Illinois Central in 59', I'm 58 and back in 70' he took me to the yard in the brand spankin new Rally Red Road Runner he just bought where I met his boss Sy, Dad worked passenger as a conductor and also worked freight back in the caboose when they still were in use, he was classified as a brakeman/switchman, then became a freight conductor in the caboose, then around 83' he bid on the Fulton KY coal run and got it as freight conductor up front so to speak, then the big kahuna of coal run jobs for Dad's subdivision, Ballwin Lake Power plant came up for bid and, well I doubt there were many that signed knowing Dad was gonna get it. Back to that new Road Runner, he took me to A yard, to my best recollection I think it was the Madison/Venice yard and I got to operate a locomotive, I wasn't even kindergarten yet, and about 5-6 cars with a caboose about 250 yds then reverse all while knowing about the slack, Dad passed in 13' I've got some stories about things that you would not believe from hunting rabbits and quail creeping along to a buddy of Dad's that saw a big hornets nest in a tree after they got a stop order out in BFE, well Dad and Moss went back out there after getting back to the yard, well because beer, lol, and Moss(think noodling inventor) climbed up that tree with an Army duffle bag and well you know the rest, wait, they went to a bar called The Judy Inn in Glen Carbon IL, after realizing said hornets nest was still in the trunk of this 76 Impala that 6 IC guys had a key too, taxi's took too long, they told everyone in the bar what they had in the trunk, no one believes them, so the proof had to be in the puddin, needless to say the hornets had chewed through the canvas duffle bag and when Moss, I know Dad well enough to know he didn't open the trunk, well all that were there, about 25 from what Dad said had to stay there til the sun came up, about 7 hrs, because the hornets were all over the place.
Dad worked for Illinois Central starting in 59', he worked passenger as conductor and freight until IC stopped passenger service in 71' he worked out of E StL/Madison/Venice then the Sauget hump as a brakeman switchman when cabooses were still being used, he mentioned many times that cooks could cook you up everything from biscuits and gravy to pork steaks, and of course back then, and I'm not condoning it but RR workers liked to drink a few, and it was nothing back then. Dad eventually got the seniority to bid on the Fulton Ky coal run hauling the coal from the Powder River Basin, 2nd best bid job for his seniority, it was almost a 3 day round trip but hauling coal is the best job because you're only hauling 1 thing, then he got the Ballwin Lake Power plant job hauling the same WY coal there 2 loads a day.

I am a train conductor in Brazil , i dont know if you guys are open for foreigners , i would like to work in a developed country
Hello I've recently applied and received my second email that my application has been moved to the next step, do you know how long it normally takes to get the next steps which I'm assuming will be the interview
Awesome Video! THis is the life for me.
Thanks for your videos. I grew up super close to a N&W track as a kid.. The engineer actually let my dad and i see the inside of the engine back in the late 70’s early 80’s.. I have always had a love for trains. Ironically my buddy is a CSX conductor and engineer… He said they call people like me that love trains “foamers” .. btw nice guitar 🎸 i play too and always had an interest in what its like to be a conductor. Im 56 but prob too old to look into it… but its great to watch these videos.sorry to hear about your friend. Glad hes ok
My dad retired from Norfolk several years ago. His route was muscle shoals to Chattanooga. He had me trained if I answered the phone to tell them if they called wanting him to come in and work more, he was an engineer, to always say no sir he’s not home. I don’t know when he will be back. After a while he’d say I know he’s there. Just tell me. I always said no sir he’s not. He’d laugh and say man I wish I had a kid as devoted as you. You’ll never admit he’s there will you? I just said I’m sorry he’s just never here. 😂
Rehab is full of rr guys. Still have their jobs waiting. Rehab fully covered. Once you in you in.
They need to update the video, TCRC pulled the OJT's and now the company is doing the training and the structure has radically changed. Also at 4:21 I cracked up at the glad hand flange not being clicked in.
Spot on do not rat anyone out especially someone that has been there for a long time try and just mention it in a casual way if he doesn’t stop don’t work with him anymore when we started to cub engineer a lot of the engineers on the hot shots the assigned guys got mad at our road foreman for not getting a cub for the entire 6 months his thinking was we did not need to learn how one engineer ran and learn the same habits good or bad he wanted us to ride with every engineer and pick the good habits we liked from all of them which was smart I can tell you it made us really good engineers by the time our 6 months were up and also we didn’t need to be riding the fast freights because we wouldn’t be catching them very often he wanted us on the 13 and 14 thousand ton coal trains as far as the lazy or bad conductor we never talked about our family like that they all had their own little quirks maybe some walked slower or would tie brakes slower what ever it was it was never my job to say my job was just to go ahead or back up but I can say one thing and this is for the whole crew if I’m going to get a crew that is not on overtime maybe a mileage run and they are about to dog or have dogged already get your orders talk to the yardmaster or dispatcher and get your ass in the van and go get them don’t take 3 hours to go get them when it should take an hour and a half we don’t like that
Great video speaking as a engineer for 14 years for csx I can say this any engineer not shoving against air is just being a dick my job is to handle that train as if I was back there riding or one of my family members I am always going to protect my crew and take pride in what I do now if I’m on a steep incline where the slack is stretched out or in on me that’s fine I can use my independent brake but I’m always keeping some kind of pressure on the cars I’m not releasing it all the way then slamming it on now if I’m working a yard job all bets are off and the switchmen know it because you know most yard tracks half the cars won’t be laced up anyway but there really is no excuse for not shoving against air and giving everybody a good ride
@@pamhensley3126 I loved working locals and yard jobs, especially when you work with a certain engineer for a while and you both start to learn how you each do things. When that happens man efficiency skyrockets and there is just something satisfying when you’re counting down to a couple and the slack rolls out and couples the car and it’s smooth. That’s how it gets in your blood. The camaraderie between the engineer, U man, brakeman etc.. nothing like it. Appreciate your comment and sharing your knowledge! Much appreciated. I still love learning and hearing different perspectives
Being in a crappy place like Detroit makes these jobs a crap shoot.
i sent 30 yrs on conrail as a trainman this guy is telling what it is.
Does anyone know if I will go straight to engineering if I go to college for that ?
Just hired out with BNSF in Grand Junction, CO as a Conductor! Got my start date as well. Being 18 years old, I am excited about what's to come! Your videos help out so much!
Do you get unemployment if your fer load ?
Maybe the reason why those cars are lying on the ground at the safety training center is that it's a mock-up?....
И воздух из рукавов выходит через небольшое отверстие которое есть на каждом кране, так безопаснее. th-cam.com/users/shortsxWjAGbNkN1Y?feature=share и ещё th-cam.com/video/7Cy6I3hQwLs/w-d-xo.html и th-cam.com/video/jshVuJ0ompg/w-d-xo.html
Why the railroad still insists on using a 24 hour extra board when most other trades that do the same (e.g. the airlines) split it into an AM and PM pool baffles me.
I have an app in and hopefully I'll hear something soon. To get a CJO is the chance of a lifetime.
They’re making you use your sick days first before you can use your FMLA. Man they’re slick as hell lol
I've been a cop for 8 years and I'm really considering a career change. I was in the military for 5 years before that so I'm used to shitty shifts, long days, missing holidays. Don't have any kids, don't plan on having any kids, and the wife has put up with multiple deployments and my cop job through all of it. The cop thing is just taking its mental toll and CPKC is hiring conductors near me. Their pay seems to be close to what I make currently. I'm really considering applying, but there seems to be so much doom and gloom around railroad careers, at least on Reddit. Again shitty management, shitty hours, whatever I'm used to it. Would love some input from the folks that have been doing it for awhile. As a follow up, can you supplement school with the GI Bill? I was able to do this at the police academy even though I was receiving a paycheck. This period is when I would be taking a significant pay cut.
My aunt and uncle rebuilt this railway and are president and vp I shared this video over to them

Another good video! I’m really glad I subscribed to your channel, I learn a lot so much. Thank you for doing this, welcoming us and teaching us. I asked the boss of class lll short line in town, said I’m willing to learn and work, I love this stuff. He said not people like you, I questioned he said because you’re disabled. That hurt. He said it’ll break you +the FRA is picky. Is this true? Sorry to ask
Hey if i am not canadian, will it be possible to enter ?
Great video.
Yes
Much the same as trucking. But the trucker gets to sleep in the bunk of the truck lol. So that the trailer has security lol. Only allowed to go home after loaded Pnematic tanker. After inhad installed the video security cammera/ recorder. Or would have had to go to the Co fenced sevirity yd. ( where things got damaged too. Lol) Other Co yd with items such as tabaco etc where stole - despite security cameras lol. Yeh just find out the code. Had to often change the gate code lol Esp after previous drivers left. Lol. Doesnt cost much to get a gate code lol. Hey now driver just made hos p/u truck payment lol. Nope dont tell the Hell Angels etc y real name.Yeh offers are out there. Lol. They like " working" with these type of ttuckers lol. Keys " accidently" left in yes " battery box" oops How did they get truck started lol. Yup high security. Yeh Co jerks driver witj pay. Not good
Thanks!
The thing that baffles me about BNSF is that they aren't even loyal to their own managers. Imagine using your engineering degree to enforce nonsensical glorified trucking company policies just to get the boot.
QUAD CITIES!!! MY HOME METRO
There's no reason for workers to be on call 24/7/365. There's a better way to do this. The class 1s are stuck in the early 1900s. These trains getting longer and longer need more crew not less. Congress needs to get the fuck out of the rail industry and let the people strike. This is coming from someone who is against big unions. The only thing that Congress should be doing in the rail industry is enforcing Anti-Trust laws. Class 1's are monopolies and they need to be split up. Imo
Wait until you see the new BNSF contract that just got shot down lmao 😅
Since being activated as an engineer for CSX, I’ve gained 50 lbs from eating crap just trying to stay awake on 12 hours shifts. Plus we still don’t have paid sick days. It shows them on our entitlements, but they’re no good.
What USA cpkc terminal has the best road jobs?
