I love all your videos man I appreciate the info! I’m 22 and it’s my first month of on job training for a class 3 in the finger lakes I love it, the only thing that’s really gonna take some time for me is sorting cars and the paper work side of things but I still have a lot of learning to do. Looking forward to growing my knowledge, Thanks.
Great video. I was accepted for Norfolk southern to start February 26 or 27. I turned it down because I saw a video on Amtrak you did and applied for up here in Jersey and got accepted for a similar job, which is NJ TRANSIT conductor. Just like Amtrak but stays in ny/nj areas. Want to thank you for your videos they help so much in decision making.

Yes sir! Been on the water a good bit getting back into the swing of things and testing out the new equipment in hopes to record every practice day and tournament day to share with whoever likes fishing lol. Hope you and your family is doing well Claude! Good to hear from you.

Hello MR. Joey. My friend is of age and really wanting to work for NS. He lives in Collierville but doesn’t know what yard he’ll be stationed for OJT. He doesn’t know if it’ll be Rossville or Sheffield. If you can would you mind making a video about designations. Im sure him and a bunch of others would appreciate it
He would work at Sheffield Rossville and Memphis yards during OJT.
What ever happened to AMDG or Modac as far as training schools, the UP and the UTU had train the trainer, and otj training, back in 2003.

I’m starting to seriously consider going into railroading once i get my associates degree, just not sure which one to apply to. CSX and NS run by me and then Amtrak is always an option. What I’ll probably end up doing is getting my CDL certification and driving for a living while applying to the railroad. If it doesn’t work out, I have a fallback. What’s funny is I do have a lot of people telling me I shouldn’t do it because “the hours are bad” and “you won’t have a family life”. I’ve always been a loner anyways so I feel like it’s the perfect job for me lol
You’re a lot like myself lol. I have a family and kids now but I have always enjoyed my own company and enjoyed doing thing alone.
Not a bad idea at all. CDLs are a great way to earn money and pretty easy to start an LLC and start driving for yourself if you ever go that route.
@@Railroad_Talk Yea I’m being pressured by family to start searching for a wife to settle down with but 1) i’m only 20 and 2) the last girl i was with kinda soured me on relationships in general. I just want to do my own thing and I like both trucks and trains so I figured I could be happy working with either of those as a career. And to open my own LLC down the road would be awesome
@@daRealB-Rex wow really? Lol. Man that’s crazy. There is no rush to get married 🤣. Self development, finding what interest you, hobbies all of that stuff in my opinion is so important especially at your age. Enjoy the journey, put yourself in uncomfortable situations (within reason of course lol) go do things you enjoy, start putting some money into a 401k so it will help you more in the future. A family is great it really is however it can cause way more stress and take years off your life if you’re not prepared for it.
Had that been a locomotive when they were doing car counts all youd hear on the radio is "got damn!" Because the engineers coffee cup bounced off the back wall 🤣🤣🤣. Its cool to see that they are actually tryna teach people how to not be retarded when working for the railroad and teaching them more than just the GCOR like they do in traditional ChooChoo U's because its like a 1 in 25 chance you actually find somebody whos gonna be a good conductor coming from that course.

@Railroad_Talk i think more people than we think would actually help contribute to a good cause like this and this would be a great transition job for SOME of the old heads around these parts to actually teach these guys and girls how to do things the right way. And i only say some because theres old heads as you know that are questionable if they even love their own children lmao smh.
I have a lot of questions about this. I've been thinking about going into the railroads and trying to become a conductor or engineer. When i first start out what kind of job should i expect ex. Switchman and about how long should i have to work it. Around how many days would i be working and how much off time. What is it like working with other people in the rails. Im also still young so what does the job availability look like. What kind of training do i need and do i need any experience from other jobs.
During WW2, the SP was so short of men that the had WOMEN running trains. And this was the steam era!
On the Railroads, is there such a thing like a check engineer or conductor like in the first AIRPORT movie's check pilot

There are insitutes of higher learning in the Houston area which teach trucking, marine and aviation. Why not railroading? Better quality people, with a common standard.
I have my first virtual interview February 21st. If I get the job I will be leaving my current job after 36 years. Quite a few of the requirements about safety and physical strengths I am already doing at my current job. It will definitely be an adjustment to the schedule that I am going to be facing. Do you have any advice for someone just getting into the conductor job ?
As a retired railroader I'll say be ready to work 24/7/365 , forget being part of your family as your not going to be home or able to see your kids grow up or play sports , your wife and family come second , be prepared to work in all weather conditions , ANY TIME IS TRAIN TIME , if you do anything wrong on the job they will do a drug and urine test . Your driving record is factored in your job . No drugs or alcohol . Always expect the unexpected , keep your eyes open and ears wide open . Rail cars and locomotives can and do roll silently . Watch your back at all times . Be prepared to work with and take orders from some of the dumbest people you have ever met . Don't burn bridges behind you , you might need to cross back over that bridge .
25vrd nailed it lol. Enjoy and try to embrace the process and the journey. Going to school and training is something I’ll never forget and i am still friends with guys from class today.
When you do OJT, keep your head on a swivel. Look, learn, live as railcars are extremely quiet when rolling free. Pay attention to what the old heads tell you, take notes if need be. Learning the job takes time, usually about 2 years once the mark you up. Be safe.

Here in canada at least DO NOT take this course. It gives zero preference in hiring from anyone I talked to. You still have to apply the same as everyone else and still have to go through the entire training course as everyone else. It is nothing but a total and complete waste of your time and most importantly money. It's stupid expensive for nothing but basic knowledge you'll be getting anyway, and debt. I'm also saying this as someone who has worked with and talked to a couple people that did take the course and wish they hadn't the one of which applied multiple times before getting hired. Edit: A new hire could learn everything from this program for free just by watching your channel.

Your being safe, lot of old heads just hate too much chatter on the radio. Don’t feel pressured to say long counts knowing you can’t see. trust your doing right thing 💪🏻.

I keep moving if the conductor keeps updating. That short of car counts, it would be slow but moving.
the best part of the rr is their is no women, least not at my terminal.
I worked with serval and some of them would run circles around some of these men out there…
Old head told me a long time ago, before you start for the railroad you think this is a manly job you’re gonna get on and get out here and get shit done. Come to find out you’re surrounded by a bunch of grown ass men who don’t wanna walk… sadly Mike was 10000% right.
I work with more than a few. I have no problem with that as long as they CAN DO THE JOB. The problem comes when the company will hire women that are not physically capable of actually doing the job simply to fulfill their diversified hiring quota. THAT is a problem.

Some people will make some NEVER will get the program…making a normal joint I never used 5’ and now way should you hear the joint make on the radio as they are stopping you! And for !!##%! Sake learn how to use hand signals and not like some robot
Don’t waste your time in school just apply for what ever railroad you want and learn from an old head I bet you you will learn anything you need to know about the job 😂
