    the fact The Rock got reborn after all the shit that happened to it back in the day warms my heart, the fact ive seen them get some wicked cool jobs that have been leaving rail fanners jaws dropped just makes it that much better. long live the rock!

    I work for a patriot rail short line I figure most other short lines they prefer it if you have some experience and are familiar with railroad. I use to work at csx and if you are new to railroading try to get your 4 or 5 years for retirement at class 1 then move to a short line. Lot less B's you have to deal with yes there is always some but no where as bad as class 1 people actually don't despise showing up to work also we are not on call set schedule. After you get done your yard manager tells us what we will do tomorrow or tomorrow morning when you show up for work 100% recommend and love it out here.

      you mentioned a critical point here... RAILROAD RETIREMENT... and for the record you need FIVE YEARS to qualify for it, less than 5 no-go... for those who hold railroad retirement in high regard, best to call your local RRB office to see if the company you may want to work for pays into railroad retirement, because not all do... the class 1s all pay into it but after that (class 2 and lower) it's a crap shoot... so before a person dives in better check it out before hand

    I never thought that I would see these trains again! I have been a railfan since my childhood in the 80's, and "The Rock" as it was affectionately called used to run through my neighborhood on the south side of Chicago. Even though the original Rock Island Railroad went under in the 80's, Rock Island rolling stock was still visible during the early 80's.

      There are still some of their hoppers rolling in the bankruptcy blue with patches markings (granted in horrid condition) on UP lines around Wyoming and Idaho still today

    This railroad has been in business since 2017 in northwestern Mississippi, they have about 60 miles of track that interchanges with the Canadian National. This branch has only been around for a little over a year.

      The smaller companies likely charge less to switch, since they don’t pay as much. Companies who need railcars like that idea.

    I love that, even though they're in Mississippi rather than Illinois and they're Class III rather than Class I, they're still rocking the retro livery and logos. It's like they know what we want.

      I would say that’s and understatement with the c40-8 they have painted in the red, yellow paint job with white speed lettering.

    I see some BIG differences between Rock Island and other Railroads. Mainly, everyone seems to be happy, workers and management. When was the last time you saw folks who were in a good mood at Norfolk Southern, or any of the other 'big boys'? 'Precision Railroading' has taken it's toll on workers IMO.

    Gotta say this is cool....my father worked at the Rock Island then after bankruptcy went to CNW and then BN....I worked for CCP and IC then Railnet....shortline are very low paying....actually at the railnet I was making 21,000.00 a year then with raises in 2006 I was up to 25,000.00....the girl I was dating at the time worked at a Pilot truck stop and was making 38,000.00 a year....most shortline are based on the community they are in....Nebraska Central offered me 9.00 a hour for 90 days and then 11.00 a hour after....a far cry from when I was with CC IC making near 70,000.00 a year....

    I meet Robert Riley when he was a conductor on the Iowa Pacific Railroad excursion train back in 2016. I saw him on some media railroad sites, and I had to introduce myself. He heard of my name because of the pictures that I have taken of trains over the years.

    The Rock! Resurrected! I know it may be out of reach foreseeably, but the new Rock Island should purchase the Iowa Interstate Railroad for a great, convincing price and acquire or build track leading to the IAIS. That should REALLY excite railroad fans like me!

    Didn't know the Rock Island Line rebooted as a short line. Also, lol, they're not in Rock Island, IL. I wonder if they had to buy the branding back from the Class 1 that absorbed the Rock Island Line. Though they're calling themselves Rock Island Rail with a new logo, and I only saw Rock Island Line merch. Might not need the rights to the old name and logo to sell merch.

    • @raymarshall6721
      @raymarshall6721 ปีที่แล้ว

      Neither the name nor logo were purchased when the original liquidated, only the equipment and rail. This 'new' line claimed the name and logo of the original rock island when they hit bankruptcy, they own the name and logo outright.

    • @ShawnCalay-hi6gy
      @ShawnCalay-hi6gy ปีที่แล้ว

      The holding rights are for 20 years, IAIS tried using the CRIP logo in 1988 and had to remove it....after the rights were up they went back to it ....when I was at CC the IC tried to sue over the herald but at that time it was a no go as IC ICG changed the herald a few times over ....

    Hey Joey, I was just wondering, so I’m from Canada and I’ve seeing on CP and CN track, locomotives from other companies such as NS, why does CP or CN use locomotives from Norfolk Southern as DPU’s? and what happens if that NS locomotive derails and get destroys, does CP and CN have to pay NS for that locomotive?

    • @Railroad_Talk
      @Railroad_Talk  ปีที่แล้ว

      From my understanding there is some type of agreement between the class 1's because its more efficient to just keep the same power on the headend than setout their power. This saves thousands of hours I bet over the course of a year.
