- Everyone needs to hear this, especially the residents of east Palestine. The STB and FRA were warned about car inspections not being done correctly due to retaliation. The people who are being paid by us tax payers have knew a year prior to East Palestine.. This is BS and unacceptable. The @surfacetransportationboard8768 needs to also be held accountable for sitting by and not doing a damn thing.

The FRA is accountable for safety, operating and equipment regulation. STB is accountable for regulation of the business and service side. STB has very limited authority in this situation. What's clear is regulation is needed on the federal level. Train length, train make up, train defect detector standards, inspection standards, crew consist and training standards just to name a few. Congress needs to give FRA the tools in the form of not easily undone regulations. Plus sizable penalties and put some teeth in enforcement.

I appreciate the kind words man! I don’t consider myself one anymore since I’m not out there any longer however I try to stay consistent and I just have a different perspective than most after being in that life and living it. Getting to see multiple yards and work on different territories helps. No politics here lol.. there is also a reason i have only worked with one company as far as sponsored videos.. i don’t like that business model and it is way over saturated in the TH-cam world. Just me and a camera lol.

Glad to hear that the train crew wasn't at fault! I felt bad for the people of Palestine when this happened. Some of these quote "victims" will milk a situation to get an easy paycheck. It was an accident and these things happen. Thanks again Joey for all you do.

The entire crew needs accountability here, not just the conductor. Also, why did they pass the next location to set the cart out? Did the dispatcher not instruct them to do so? Finally, what the hell is that crew doing moving a train with a reported hot beating at track speed? We are required to advance the train at WALKING speed, not track speed, to the next location to set the car out. All kinds of weird elements to that story.

Do you know for a fact that the bearing was showing clearly formed droplets in the days before the accident?
What were the defective conditions on the 25% of the cars?
You and I both know we can go out and find a defect on anything if we look hard enough, especially in a hump yard.
I haven’t made it that far yet. However I hope they share with us what the defects were on the other 37 railcars. Wheels, thin flange, bearings, couplers, knuckles, draft gears I feel should be the most important things to check. I was never a carman for a class 1 but I was a carman at one point. However even if they find a defect I’m sure they would be hesitant to tag it due to possible retaliation.
As for the facts, the train was built and inspected prior to departure from its home terminal. At the next terminal 40 cars was added and those 40 were also inspected. They were added to the rear of the train. The next terminal they swapped with the crew that was on the train during the derailment. On/ off and go.
That’s all the NTSB stated. Based on that the bearing must have not shown any signs of previous or potential failure / heat.
They call MOW out if we stop a train also. No mention of the silent defect detectors either.
I have a question. Could a conductor bring a guitar or something like that on board the train with them? I’d imagine that would help pass time sitting at red signals.
You can, I know a few guys that would carry one in a travel case. As far as playing it at red signals that’s between you and the engineer lol. I personally would not mind as I have played guitar for years and years. Just a basic player that knows your basic blues and phrygian scales lol.

Hello, I am looking to become a yard engineer for CSX in Tennessee, I was wondering what your thoughts would be for someone going in right after graduation?
The stupidest part of this all is, if you set the defective cars out, fix them and send them on the next train youd literally spend less money by a fat margin than what itd take to clean up a derailment of this magnitude. Most of the through freight shit is already billed and paid for ahead of time on top of the fact that its already late as hell anyway so whats one more week gonna hurt if you have to order parts to fix some cars. Now that customer has no product, your reputation is damn near completely shot to shit so gaining new customers is gonna be a toss up after they see how you neglected to just simply as you said do your job correctly. And on top of all this im not sure about NS but UP cut back a shitload of MOW, Roundhouse and car department guys/girls recently and they expect shit to continue to run smoothly. Whoever is crunching the numbers for these companies should be fired along with these idiots because they have continued to fail over and over again. Most of these would also be avoided had the railroads not been dumbass hedge funded companies because then the carriers would be atleast a little more ok with spending some extra money to make some, not all, but some of the shit right.
