I’d think that one piece faux ivory grips could be produced on a 3-D printer, slightly oversized to allow for fitting.
Do you use any oil with the steel wool
@michaeldaley9549 i normally use the steel wool dry and after i go over the gun, i cover the gun in lots of oil. After about a hour. Then blow off or wipe off the extra oil.
Thanks
Do you steel wool inside the barrel or just oil it good
@@michaeldaley9549 i run a barrel brush through the bore and oil
Thanks
Man I’m jelly! I’m wanting to buy a mini motorcycle to cruise the back roads here or maybe a nice size scooter, haven’t decided yet but definitely want to ride on 2 wheels
@DeucesWildRC there are lots of great choices for riding 2 wheels. I personally am a big high cc sport bike fan. But love riding everything. less than $10 fills up the tank for a fun days ride. I just got back into riding after 17 years away. I rode in high school and college. The bike i have right now is the same year make and model i had back then. Its a 2003 honda cbr600rr. Let me know if you ever get a bike
@@snappers_antique_firearms will do! I’ve been eyeballing the RPS 150 Grom clone lol but also looking at scooters, I haven’t made up my mind yet lol
Well I certainly enjoyed the show sorry you couldn't make it hope you have a great Independence Day
@@louisianagray8618 you have a great 4th as well.
Question can you shoot 44 mags out of a 444?
Definitely not when it comes or original antique guns, especially prior to around 1900. They weren't made to shoot modern smokeless ammo. It's likely it would destroy the gun. Even if it's a modern made rifle or pistol, on paper, it might fit the chamber. But the pressure is a lot higher on 44 magnum. It's a high probability that you would Damage the gun. I have never done it so i really dont know. You could if the Cartridge fits, shoot 44-40 in a 44mag. Because its a far lower pressure. But i really dont know if the Cartridge would fit.
Exactly what I thought would happen before watching the demonstration. Now, try a 44 magnum and 357 magnum cartridges.
Yeah, if you watch the Wild West Extravaganza TH-cam channel. Bass Reeves accidentally did this. it was a Fairly common thing to happen in the old west. Especially if you carried a colt single action army in 45 colt and a 73 Winchester in 44-40. In person the rounds are very close in size and easy to mix up. Unfortunately, I don't own any 44 magnum or .357 magnum to try. The .357 magnum is going to be far too small in diameter to work. 38 special brass almost falls through the barrel. 44 magnum, though, might fit but be very tight. I am comparing the 44-40 to the 44mag sizes off the internet. They seem Farley close in size.
Hey man I'm currently looking at a Gen 2 62 pocket Navy what do you think about the Gen 2s
I have only heard great things about the 2nd gens. I personally dont have much experience with them other than looking at a few. I have a friend who has a 2nd gen pocket navy. it looked very nice. Even the proper silver plating on the brass. I did notice his didn't have Progressive/ gain rifling. But many people have told me there's do...🤷 if you do get it, please let me know if it does. I definitely think they are great buys, and even a good investment. the 2nd gens seem to be the very best replica made of a first gen. Seems they took the making of 2nd gens very seriously. Unlike the 3rd gens. They seemed to be a more money grad. not made to the same quality. Please let me know if you get it. I would love to hear your thoughts on it.

A new and interesting development as of 6/19/2024. Have you seen Dutch Merrick's interview on Court TV website regarding his technique to make these guns fire without a pull of the trigger? Once at website search for "Merrick Armorer". You will find a picture of the Peacemaker revolver. Make sure sound is on and start watching at timestamp 6:30 for about 2 minutes of duration. I apologize for not providing the hyperlink but TH-cam evidently won't allow me to do that in this comment.

The drop tube with the muzzleloaders is usually a competition thing. It makes sure that none of the powder gets stuck to the sides of the bore. The other "common" reasons for it would be if you have a break or suppressor.

Excellent video on an original Colt. Dick Fairburn, and you use the same opening theme song in your videos. Coincidence?
I have never heard of dick Fairburn until just now. Looks like a good channel and is worth a sub. That song is one of like 15 old west sounding free music from youtubes creater page. There are quite a few of us gun channels with the same song.
@@snappers_antique_firearms That's awesome man. Definitely check out Dick Fairburn, he's very good and delves pretty deeply into the history of handguns. He's going to have a Wild Bill Hickok coming up and what pistol he would have carried had he been alive nowadays. Carry on with your awesome Colt videos and I'll subscribe as well today. I own a 3rd gen 1860 that is my EDC so I'm always searching for new videos on Colt pistols.
@codered7453 i definitely will, and thanks again for pointing out dick fairburns channel. I am always looking for good channels. How do you like your 3rd gen? I have never had the chance to look over or shoot any 3rd gens other than a quick look at a pocket navy a friend had. i mostly only have experience with first-generation colts. Does the 3rd gen 1860 have gain twist rifling like the first gen?
@snappers_antique_firearms Man, I love my 3rd Gen. It's very well made and finished. Even though Uberti helped build them, if you put them side by side, the Colt looks much better finished. It does have 7 groove gain twist rifling, and I actually had to make a front site for mine because it shot too high, but now, it's perfect. Shoots exactly where I aim it, and I've never had a single cap jam or chainfire. I had one misfire so far from using my self-made paper cartridge, and it was only because I twisted the rear paper too much to reliably ignite. Otherwise, never a single problem. The hammer spring is very heavy, so that may be why it doesn't cap jam or fail to fire. I wanted a Ruger Old Army but found the Colt in its original case and all accouterments and it had never even been fired so I bought it and now having practiced with it so much and knowing that it is (in my experience thus far) 99% reliable I wouldn't trade it for any Ruger. I carry it everywhere and shoot it every weekend so to answer your question in the most roundabout way, yessir I'm very happy with it. I hope to see you aquire a 3rd Gen 1860 at some point and do a review on it to see how it compares to an original.
@codered7453 thats great to hear they didn't lower any standards when making the 3rd gen. I have heard many people say bad things about 3rd gens. But come to find these people dont own one and are probably just repeating something they heard off the internet. Glade to hear from someone who actually owns and shoots one. I have been thinking of getting a few 2nd or 3rd gens. I would love to get a copy of each original colt i own. So i can display them together. show what the originals looked like when new..... when it comes to shooting high. every original colt i have ever shot shoots high. The main reason is people were trained back then to shoot at the belt Buckle, not center mass. This was because of the rainbow arc you get out of large caliber blackpowder loads. This made hits on a person out to 100 yards easy by not even needing to Compensate for distance by aiming in a different location..
I have thought about this whole primer / percussion cap unavailability. IMO, IT IS UNACEPTABLE! If you get hurt trying to make these things, get a lawyer and sue them (I think most of them come from Vista Outdoors) there is no reason these should not be redily available. After they start losing millions of $, then they might add a new building and add on.
For fans of the guns and the show: Bohannon barely used his Griswold after joining the railroad. He upgraded to a '58 Remington for most of the show.
I personally saw it sad that the show used a brass frame 1860 army colt as a Griswold and gunnison. They really messed that up.
That is the best video on that gun. The absolute truth is the hammer springs on original colts are way heavier than Italian reproduction versions. That’s the fix for cap jams…
Thanks, yeah, very heavy hammer springs on original Colts. With all my original Colts, they rarely get cap jams. It happens just not that often.
So do you store it dry or do you lube it first?
I forgot to include that information. But right after carding with 000 steel wool, each piece is oiled heavily. I prefer Balistol. After a few hours of soaking in oil. I then blow the parts off with compressed air before assembling the firearm. Leaves just the right amount of oil on the gun.
@snappers_antique_firearms do you have a cheap ultrasonic cleaner or an expensive one?
@awnzotheman a cheap harbor freight, but I want to get a larger, more powerful one soon. Its a good idea to use an Ultra sonic cleaner, but it's not 100% necessary.
@@snappers_antique_firearms thx
Only is missing a Remington 1858
it will Definitely be in a future part
They are shooting blanks. The use of blanks is also an important plot point of the movie. The scene itself serves to show some sort of irony during national guard training.
Did you ever fix the firing pin hole on that .22?
Those roll caps might be easy to get in Yankee land but here in kangaroo land they're rocking horse shit.
The match box route might be your best bet where you live.
Got one awesome 😊
Congrats, you will love it
when will you yankees understand that they simply dont want YOU to have guns I bet most of them shoot guns and just pretend to be dumb so they get some enraged gun dude do something they can gain advantage of.
This is fkn cool
Thanks!!
Why didn't you just buy a new cylinder
If it's a modern replica, then, of course, getting a new cylinder is the easiest option. the revolver in this video. It's a numbers matching colt model of 1849 pocket. That was made in 1858. You can buy a new cylinder, but the ones that are made for originals are not roll engraved. They wont match the finish on the revolver. It really depends how far gone a part is or if its reasonably fixable.
Thanks Snapper: GAWD I want one; As you know, at an auction I bought a 1892 that was called one (sigh) Now I saw one in action. VERY COOL You Did it. Well Done! this is a vid I waited for. WELL done lad.I say, well done: btw I heard that on the first cylinder. Ricochet... and as for Blackie: I believe he must have traded his soul for that formula. I too have used it. I have no idea the formula but, it is witch's brew... Thanks Lad.
Hey, gray, good to see you, buddy. That 92 of yours is still a really nice revolver. Yeah, it was a light strike on that first cylinder. Forgot to tighten the screw that adds tension to the hammer spring. It's surprising that any of the rounds fired. I have gotten pretty good at working on these 1877s. The best way to get one is to find one that's broken at a way lower price.. i would be happy to get it running for you just for the price of any parts it may need. its hard to tell from the videos. These 1877s are smaller guns. The 32 rain makers, 38 lighting, and the 41 thunderer are all the same size. The frame is the same size as a 49 pockets frame. The birds head grip on the 1877 will fit on a 49 pocket. Screws dont line up, but it's the right size. So, the best way to think of the 1877s. a 49 pocket with a top strap that's double action in 41 colt. I use my thunderer as my concealed carry most of the time.
I have a nearly new .41 Thunderer. It came with a box of original BP ammo, three rounds missing. I believe those were the only rounds fired from the gun before I got it. Against the seller's advice I did shoot about 20 shots of reproduction BP ammo. No problems, but it grouped about six inches left and high of the sights at 50 feet. Good enough for gunfighting but I have found 19th century British Webleys to be much better quality.
Wow, it sounds like you scored with that revolver. I would have shot it as well. A few rounds will never hurt it. If you care to get it closer to point of aim. You can get a gun smith to rotate the barrel. it will shoot closer to the point of aim left and right. All colts from the 1800 shoot high. If you look up the way people used to aim, it's different than today. Instead of shooting center mass. They would shoot at belt Buckle Height. Because of the rainbow trajectory, it would allow the shooter to hit a target at a longer range without changing the point of aim. I also have a shooting video if you care to see it. Congrats again on your thunderer.
Your center block is unique Why, not shape it the way they are originally? Ideally, you want it to be the same tightness throughout the entire grips to the back strap and guard! Not, just at the bottom backend! Just as the wood grips come from the factory are! I'm speaking of the one piece grips. Never had two piece grips. Two ways of doing the same thing! It works i guess! Awesome, single action army!
Theres a reason i did it this way. The grips are signed by other youtubers who helped get this original Griswold and gunnison up and running. I didnt want to glue over there names. It works just fine with no issues. But they do sound Hollow when cocking the hammer. Your right it would be better to go with the original style center. Thanks for stopping by
Absolutely Awesome
It's a great show. I definitely recommend going at least once.
