    I wish I knew the stories behind my originals. Only know that my colt lightning is marked SFP and the fact that it was given to the San Francisco Police

      I wish I knew the history of all my guns. It's cool to see a police issue lightning. At least you got that information. Thanks for stopping by slicksix.

    The 1873 Winchester has always been my dream rifle to own. A few weeks ago I finally purchased my first one. A new Winchester (Miroku) 1873 short rifle in 357 Magnum. Color case hardened, it's beautiful. I haven't fired it yet due to working ridiculous overtime lately... I've heard of these bank robbers before, but your story included info that others didn't mention. Thanks for posting it.

    I have studied this story on and off for as long as I can remember. My first book on the Wild West when I was a kid had the photo of the captured men. I wondered if I was related to Ben Wheeler and therefore set out to know more about him. Turns out that there was a connection but not through him. It was through his wife who was the actual Wheeler. Ben just took her name as an alias. There is a really good book on him called William Sherod Robinson Alias Ben Wheeler. It has some good info on the bank robbery as well. Online you can find photos of the noose that hanged Ben Wheeler. There is also another very cool Winchester 73 in this story. The beautiful engraved one given by the proud townsfolk to their wonderful Marshal who in turn used it to rob the bank. He also mentions it in his letter to his wife just before he was cut down with the double barrel.
    By the way… thanks for making sure no one confuses him for me. 😂

      I know about that beautiful engraved 73 Winchester. I will definitely check out that book. It was hard to find any real in depth information . Just the same old stuff....no problem. Its very easy to Confuse the 2 of you. 😁

    Wow! What a story. Love these ol' guns too. Quick question: What happened to the front sight?

    • @snappers_antique_firearms
      @snappers_antique_firearms  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It had a coin as a front sight when I got it. I removed it and made a proper front sight. I hadn't Soldered it on yet in some parts of the video. If you go the the shooting footage you will see it.

      @@snappers_antique_firearms Ahh. Gotcha lol. I noticed a sight while you were shooting but it was gone while the camera was panning and the rifle was on the shelf. BTW- I'll be picking up a '73 Win in 38-40 shortly. I doubt it will have a great story behind it like yours though. I'll share with ya soon. Keep up the fun vids. 👍

    Now don't go leaving it out there in the desert, propped up against a juniper tree. 😁 I would love to know they story behind that 1873. I see that yours was missing the front sight. Did you make one for it?

    • @snappers_antique_firearms
      @snappers_antique_firearms  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It used to have a coin as a front sight. I was in the middle of making the front sight when i recorded the up close video of the rifle. I made the proper front sight for it. and i have it on now. ...I would love to know the story of that found 1873. I wonder how many other guns get found like that. And The person who finds it just takes it home.

    Has it been cut down to carbine length or is it original from the factory? It looks cut down to me based on the forend stock.

    • @snappers_antique_firearms
      @snappers_antique_firearms  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's a 16 inch. I know they maked them as short as 14 inches and 18 was the common length for this Is saddle ring carbine. I am guessing it was cut down. but I am waiting on the letter from Winchester. But most likely it was cut down
