    Thanks for sharing. I have been picking up old brown guns and removing so much brown patina, there is actually bluing underneath. Save them, don't neglect them!

      I always find it very upsetting when I look at a very important ,rare or just iconic firearm that has so much red rust patina that you can see it has started damaging the gun. Then someone buys it ,puts it on a shelf. they think that reddish-brown patina is what it should look like. They think if they remove that patina it'll kill the gun value. you're right I have found beautiful blueing under that rust patina.

    Not alot of people know about converting red rust to black oxide. I cant wait to see more videos with this gun. I always enjoy your videos always seem to learn something from each one.

      Thanks brother. If you want to hear a mystery. Put you headphones on and go to 1:14 secs and hit play. Turn it all the way up. You will hear a explosion. The video really didnt pick it up like real life the foor and house shook. The area that the explosion happened was over 2 miles away

      @@snappers_antique_firearms Never happen! I look upon you as a young version of me long ago. Driven by a thirst for knowledge, combined with an overwhelming fascination with all things about firearms from an almost forgotten time. Its a shame we didn't live down the road from eachother. Not to sound like a primadonna, but I sure could teach you some more of the old school ways. As it is, I'll add anything I can to help you. I am in Arizona right now at my parent's old place. We are moving everything out and selling the place. And the place is in the getto. That explosion i was told it was a meth lab that blew up. In real life it was much louder and shook the ground and the house. Even caused pictures to fall

    Could you do an episode on how to preserve a rifle considering the barrel might be hard to boil in water

    • @snappers_antique_firearms
      @snappers_antique_firearms  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i dont have any thing at the moment that i can do that with. Only thing i have thats not a modern gun is a old double barrel muzzleloading shotgun. I Hope to get a original winchester 1873 soon. Then I'll absolutely do it for you. I still boil it in water. I build a container thats long enough to fit the rifle barrel and receiver. Its very cheap and eazy to build one. I go to home depot or lows or whatever place you can find metal gutters like the one on a houses roof . Buy a length of gutter thats long enough. Now you need to buy the cap ends of the gutter. I install each side with silicone. Now you have a long metal pot basically. then I put a propane turkey cooker under the gutter /metal pot. The silicone handles the heat just fine. Bring it to a boil and do the same steps as the pistols. 🤠

    Dear Snapper: I have a Pedersoli Replica 1873 Springfield Trapdoor Carbine 45/70. How much, if any, disassembly would you recommend to clean it after shooting with black powder cartridges? DJ

    • @snappers_antique_firearms
      @snappers_antique_firearms  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well that would all depend on how much you shoot it. I enjoy cleaning my guns. i personally take them completely apart every time. But if you aren't to big into cleaning. I would do simple cleaning after you get home from shooting. Making sure to get all the major stuff. Like the boar. After every 5 times taking it Out to shoot. or if you know you wont be shooting it for a long time. Then completely disassemble the firearm to clean it very well. Hot water and soap is by far the best way to clean black powder. After that i use ballistol mixed with water when I clean. Works great..
      Thats a very cool carbine by the way. I want to get my hands on one as well.

      @@snappers_antique_firearms Thank you so much for your reply. I recently got the urge to shoot BP in it, as it was meant for. Great fun!
      I always fully disassemble and clean my revolvers same day but wasn't sure about the Trapdoor. Didn't want to over-or underdo it. I too use Ballistol "Moose Milk" to clean with and a high pressure steam cleaner I got from Walmart (as posted by "Snapshot's Corner" from Norway. Video) Really speeds things up. Your videos are so interesting and informative. Love them so thank you for them too.
