    Does the whole IRS not drop out? You are right about the heat up and cool down, well should be, called quenching. Might as well use a garden hose with a spray nozzle. Problem is that rubber. Quenching is underused. Usually better to put it down into a bucket but doesn't look like you'd be able to there. Also looks a bit impossible to get everything quenched at same time.

    Great progress on that example. Couldn't agree more: multi-skill job. Breaks, suspension, fuel lines/tank/filter, exhaust, bodywork. I've done this journey on my Turnier. Took two weeks in 2022. New bolts and bushings everywhere, new copper break lines, new fuel filter, fuel tank cleaning etc. I'm a bit mad tho', my Focus lost the local MOT last week. Worn-out tires.. must be replaced ASAP, just like the right front ball joint (and the bloody leaky thermostat housing).

    Fantastic video as always , great to see the rear subframes are making a comeback as mine is looking abit worrying , is this something that just the focus suffers from or is it other platforms like the Mondeo etc? Mondeo suspensions also have the cheap powder-coating. Powder-coating is not durable enough alone, you need extra protection on top of it which of course wasn't done in the factory to save money. With some niche exceptions there is no aluminum anywhere until we got the MK5.

      There is some bodywork that will be professional done at some point as you've spotted, this is very minimal on a MK1 which is good for Dave in this restoration. @@usuallyfixingtinkeringI no that's not a lot of welding on a focus I've done nearly the whole back end on one 12 months ago but if he's spending that sort of money on it then it needs tidying up as them plates could of been done better my plates would of been level of the body and not put the plate over it then welded when ground down and painted it would of been hard to see that it had been done just to pass a MOT I hate putting plates over and thing as it sticks out but fair play to Dave can't you just clean them subframe up instead of replacing them? I have to defend the owners here, these cars have been here at least 8-10 years plus and are well-known in their area. However in this case the owners did not want the word spreading around as sadly opportunists will happily break in to steal parts, which is what has happened before with the advertising of parts. So they decided before I arrived it was all going to go as nothing was being taken. The lesson is if people don't take bits, bits get lost sadly and when they do become publicly known about, people cause trouble. I fully support the owners on this one. Thanks for the comment :)

    The first thing anyone should do is take those hideous arch lips off the rear arches, they trap moisture and dirt causing the arches to rust badly overtime. The MK1 interior is definitely a spitting image of the 6th gen Civic 5dr (96-00) interior which is no bad thing at all as the 6th gen civics are great well built cars. I do find the MK2 a bit odd at the rear without the number plate in the bootlid but I know it was to freshen up with the spaced rover letters. Fair play for Rover to hang onto the design for soo long despite a few changes.

      The arch lips? I've rarely seen a 45 rust badly in that department so that's news to my ears, definitely not hideous in my book. The interior is absolutely Honda Civic with some wood splattered on but still has a quality feel and look to it for predominantly a mid-90s interior!

I bought a new 3-button key and programmed the central locking on th new key using your video. What I didn't fully appreciate is the procedure only fixes the central locking, not the engine immobilser, so the new key won't start the car. Just want to stress this point for anyone else who might think the "turn the key four times" process will mean your new key starts the car, as it won't.

      @@usuallyfixingtinkering yeah it isn’t bad struggling to decide what to do with the car tbh with you, it’s got tatty paint work, blowing exhaust and the front bumper hangs a tad. Don’t know whether it’s worth getting parts of the tatty paintwork sprayed or do I just replace the parts with new primed parts and just paint everything as I get paid :) bit of a project I know but I’m struggling to justify selling and letting go when it’s had a major service and been relatively well looked after other than the point mentioned above.

    this being the air con model, which mine is not, have thought about retrofitting aircon, getting professional to check it over and regas but id be looking at 4-600 quid for that i believe yours is alos non AC with the PS in place of the compressor

      My advice is to really not, the amount of work it takes will take it beyond your figure and I'd really just get one with air con! Some parts are only available 2nd hand like most of the pipes themselves tbh!

    I would be careful on car covers though, few years back I had a car which was parked outside and I bought an expensive car cover from cover your car, it was terrible. It let in water so just be careful as by the time you check it, could be dried up, I would use it for occasional use to keep dust off but I wouldn’t use one outside to shield against the elements again.

    • @usuallyfixingtinkering
      @usuallyfixingtinkering 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You do realise that breathable car covers do let in some moisture maybe some droplets of water. If it was raining and I look under the cover to find my car dry as a bone - not good. This means there's no breathing going on which is the killer of paintwork under covers.

    • @snbala

      @@usuallyfixingtinkering mine was letting in insane amounts, I was taping the stitching up to see if it helps. I just left it off as it was better to get wet than be soaked under the cover, but I do understand probably not all covers may not be like that.
