    I just spent 3,200 reais (462 pounds) on the power steering system of my Duratec MK1 after I neglected a small leak that turned into a mess about two weeks ago.
    I had to pay for repairing the steering gearbox and pump, while the pipe I had to buy a new.
    Don't neglected small stuff affecting complex systems in you car. That was my lesson.
    Now l need to change the engine cushions ASAP, because I'm quite sure the higher vibration was the root cause of the leakage in the first place.
    Keep it up! Guys like you are good inspiration for peasants like me that just want to keep their old Focus rolling because they know there are no better cars for the same price.
    Just thinking that I would need to spent 3 times of more than I would get paid for my Focus to buy a freaking Renault Kwid here in Brazil, it makes me go kiss and hug my car. Lol. 😂

    Not sure where to make this comment on your channel but just want to say I've just found your channel it is absolutely diamond.
    I've had a MK1 1.6 LX since 2014. I don't know much about them or cars for that matter, but DIY competent enough to fix quite few car issues in the past. I was confused for a while about what exact version I have because it has a 2005 reg plate yet MK1 seemed to be up to 2004. Must've been an overlap. I noticed that my alloys are different from most so I get excited when I see another one with them!
    Last week it went over 100,000 and I've not spent much on it, although I don't do many miles in it at all. Sadly, I've noticed it has fallen to the common rusting at the bottom of the wing due to the leaves and dirt being trapped behind it. Your video will help massively as I hope to repair it. I also have a dent on a quarter panel which I wish I could get rid of. I really want to improve it and bring it up a shiny standard but maybe I'm asking too much as it may cost too much! We'll see and it's really nice to see mechanics like yourself appreciate them.
    Anyways, thank you bucket loads for this channel, I for one really appreciate it and will try to support it as much as I can.

      What a lovely comment and I don't know where to start other than thankyou! Tip for the wing - budget for a replacement wing and don't waste your time trying to repair it, once they get crusty they continue to rust! Budget for a new wing and a decent pain job is my advice :)

    Maintenance is key :-)
    I use red Febi fluid on my Focus, power steering is fine, after 22 years.

      I'd recommend switching to the correct Green stuff and see the difference! It may be fine now but unless it's been flushed it definitely won't be. That's my view!

    Loved seeing all the work done here. Shame after seeing Nic's mk1 at the first mk1 meet that one of those nice wheel trims were lost.
    Hopefully this mk1 for Nic will be a more long term keeper and these jobs will have done a great help.

    Fair play to you for helping a friend out but have you ever had the fun with a clutch as they all ways go I've had two with clutchs went on the MK1 focus I've done them myself and the cambelt can be fiddly job even taking the engine mount off and jacking the engine up then coil bolts are a pain I was lucky but I sprayed Wd 40 every where I tapped the threads before fitting it back on 👍

    Does your Granville CHF fluid with Ford spec WSS-M2C204A, replace the old Ford spec WSA-M2C 195-A, which is listed in my Mk1 owners manual? Great video.👍

    • @usuallyfixingtinkering
      @usuallyfixingtinkering  20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yes Granville is 204-A which is a green fluid just like the original fluid, 195-A is an ATF fluid meant for top-ups only but not really for the entire system! This is something people get wrong a lot, I believe this car was filled with ATF by the browny-red colour and the benefits of flushing to the Green fluid is immense!

    • @rafaelroma1657
      @rafaelroma1657 19 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      You certainly will not want to fill it with ATF due to the pressure specs differences on the Focus.
      The issue is that almost no one knows or care about it. In my case I had to buy and take the CHF 202 fluid to the repair shop and implore them to use it. And they are a Bosch certified repairs center specialized on power steering systems.

    • @usuallyfixingtinkering
      @usuallyfixingtinkering  19 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Unfortunately it's an educational problem, most cars can use ATF-derived PS fluid which gives all of us the impression we can use it in all PS cars! The Focus MK1 is an example of why you shouldn't use it.
