Tesla won't sell me a Cybertruck in Europe. Here's all the reasons why they should

Tesla build iconic vehicles, groundbreaking vehicles, market disruptive vehicles - and Cybertruck may be the most disruptive vehicle yet. A lot of people have a lot of opinions about Tesla and their cars. The BIG SCREEN and the lack of buttons gets some people agitated. I have a Cupra Born, the infotainment system is utter pants, which is a real shame because the car itself is lovely to drive & use. Infotainment is very variably slow to start up, sometimes just getting a blank screen, such that you need to switch off & on again to restart it. I have worked out the easiest way to use the haptic slider controls for heating control, is just to tap, tap, tap on the blue/red sections to control things, likewise with the volume , tap on the plus/minus bars. During most journeys I get a message on screen saying 'New settings are available for your user profile' - If i cancel it , the message just reappears a few minutes later. If I apply them, the only noticeable change is the ambient lighting colour which goes back to the default of red. As far as I can tell there is nothing in the user profile menu in the car, or via the app( don't get me started on how poor that is) that would specify what my preference colour for the interior lighting would be, so no idea why it constantly goes back to red. I have sent feedback to Cupra via the App store, without response - somehow the App store has a rating of 4.2/5 , but I would only give it a 1 or 2 star.

I previously had a Skoda Enyaq 60 from 2021 and actually thought it was a good car let down by the software. That’s not to say that Skoda didn’t try to make the best of it as where possible they had real buttons and the most common things were controlled by buttons on the steering wheel. I almost went for a new Tesla model 3 in January but I was put off by the lack of stalks on the Tesla and went for another Enyaq but this time the 85 edition which was also cheaper per month. This is on to v4 of the software and to be honest I think the Skoda iteration is probably the best of the VAG implementations. I still think I made the right decision though for a number of reasons; Range is better (I’m getting around 300 miles for a full charge), familiarity, versatility, comfort and the performance is much the same as a model 3 (0-60 in 6.6 seconds). The Tesla still wins on handling and the gui but that was the compromise.

Tbh, I kind of miss the CarPlay screen I had in my previous car. But the Tesla screen/ui isn’t bad either. But for control of music/nav while driving, CarPlay isn’t easily beaten. For most other stuff, I don’t miss the buttons. I still hope that Tesla would reserve a part (1/8th?) to support CarPlay (or android auto, for that matter). But looking at the total experience, the Tesla screen/ui isn’t beaten yet. And possibly won’t anytime soon. I don’t mention that voice control in my Tesla still feels kind of sub-standard. The iPhone was far better.

After watching your video and listening to the obviously brainwashed opinion there is no way I would ever buy a Tesla or any other EV. But then again at my age i probably wont nave to worry about it. If an EV works for you thats fine. But they dont fit every persons life style or needs. ICE cars are still the best imo. Nobody should force you to be required to buy EV. Everything you say its just your opinion and you have every right to express it. Where someone lives and what they require are the deciding factors in a purchase. Have a nice day.

I am 67 and bought my first Tesla -3 weeks ago. It's the old man's spec, a RWD Model Y. What surprised me is how quickly I got used to it! Firstly, the lack of an instrument cluster was a total non event. There is nothing there so what's to miss. My other car is a BMW i3, which has a small cluster, but I don't even notice it when switching between the cars. I forgot to adjust the wing mirrors before setting off from Brent Cross but sorted that easily at the first red traffic light. The voice commands work very well so that really helps. What I realise is how few changes / adjustments I actually make when driving, once things are set up. The one thing that is still getting me when switching between the cars is the wipers but I'll get used to that. I also don't like how conservative the front parking warning is - even pulling up to a flat wall it is sounding off when I am still 2 feet away. This is very important in our miniscule UK parking bays What I don''t get is the visualisation that takes up a big chunk of the screen. Why do I need to see that when I can see it all in much more detail out of the windscreen in front of me! I suppose seeing cars coming up from behind is useful (due to the tiny mirrors) but I would be happy with a blind spot warning beep. I am sure it is all to do with self driving but I don't have that. It does amuse the grandkids though! Overall I am very happy with my Tesla but the i3 is much more fun to drive

I own a leon, and am a bit puzzled.... weren't the lights on auto-mode clearly indicated by the AUTO-indicator light next to the buttons? Never had to touch that panel unless needed to put fog lights on (which do turn on an indicator in the dash). And the screen brightness annoyed me when I first got my car as well... but changing it is not really that hard. Click on the car =>settings=>interior=>infotainment and there it is 10-100%. Found this in under a minute when originally adjusted it. With older sw versions the android auto did sometimes crash the screen for me aswell, but haven't had that issue in 18 months now. And having it really makes the infotainment a moot point for me as being able to plan navigation routes before getting into the car, no need to login to anything within the car, etc. is IMO the most convenient way to use these services. I'm not saying that the infotainment on these is great as it is laggy and would prefer more physical controls, but these points are more related to the fact that it was a new car for you and probably running on an outdated sw version (which has been updated OTA several times). I've driven a Tesla and while you think that it is intuitive, for a first timer it has it's learning curve as well.

Tesla may have started the trend but most car companies are following it. The reason they are getting rid of the knobs, switches and buttons is pretty simple. It is not because people want them to go away. It is because it is cheaper to engineer and build a car around a computer screen than it is to engineer and build a car with knobs, switches and buttons. It increases the profit margin on each car. I work in the I.T. field and the worst thing you can do to a computer is have high amounts of heat and lots of vibrations. I don't trust these new infotainment systems that control all the car functions to last more than 5-6 years. It is now just as important to have a technology warranty as it is to have a power train warranty. As an I.T. person, my biggest issue is that it causes all the critical interfaces in the car to have a single point of failure. If the screen fails you can't adjust the AC/Heat, the windshield wiper settings, turn on the defrost, and so forth. Heck, in the Tesla you can't even adjust your side mirrors if the screen goes out. IMHO, if the infotainment/screen goes out then you should still be able to drive your car until you can get it fixed. With many of the modern cars you can't. My place of work just supplied me with a new Toyota RAV4. I was pleasantly surprised that the AC/Heat controls are big knobs that are easy to reach. The touchscreen is the radio, apple carplay/Android Auto and a few informational screens that you don't need to operate the car. That is the way it should be. Long live analog controls!!!

I’ve rented an ID3, and a Mk8 VW Golf. I had that moment driving away from Hamburg airport on a cold night where 5 minutes later the windscreen slowly started fogging up. I had to pull over in heavy traffic to figure out where the defogging button was. Just go to “weird home button” -> “climate control” -> and then you’ll find the familiar icon. Edit: OK so I say “just”. What I now remember was that I went onto google while parked on a busy road to figure out the de-fogging. It’s easy ish when you know how. But when it’s all new, and you’re in a hurry, it’s just a big pile of hot garbage. And then on my Tesla, I don’t even need to touch the screen at all. The car auto defogs all by itself without intervention. It knows before I know. That’s how it should be, except for the windscreen wipers, but even then - no touch screen.

I will never buy another Tesla if they don’t provide the stalks and buttons. I am very right-handed and in a RH drive car I have to make several prods at the screen with my left hand before I get it correctly. That’s stationary: when driving it’s just dangerous. With buttons and knobs muscle memory makes you hit the spot and the feel tells you you’ve got it right. I’m sure Lefties may have the same issue in a LH drive car. Touchscreens in a moving vehicle are just awful.

He did it via that touch screen, which was starting to delaminate.😮 Touch screens have that trick of looking impressive/expensive but are in fact very cheap to manufacture. But are necessary for the overall efficiency of the vehicle I prefer button's/stalks provided they are set out correctly I accept some people prefer touch screens.

I have the latest Model 3 RWD so no stalks. It was driven into whilst parked in a car park, as a Range Rover Evoque drove off from my offside towards the f/o/s of my car hitting and disloging the front bumper. It then reversed to detach before driving off. Sentry mode saved me in that I could see the VRM of the offender and what happened. I have been told I cannot drive it due to the bumper having a large hole burst from inside to out leaving sharp edges. They have provided me a coutesy car, Tesla Model 3 LR that is 2 years old. It is amazing how much extra is involved between them and the stalks seem a real step back from the buttons. I love how Tesla always put information in bottom left, next to the driver, easy within visibility. Other cars with buttons, often involved having to look away from the road and down into the lower section to find the correct knob or switch. The screens on many cars are also too low taking your eyesight from the road. This is where the Tesla wins again, important information is easy to see whilst still being able to see the road. Tesla makes sense and especially the buttons instead of stalks. Stalks are an old way of doing it and I am finding my hands stay on the wheel far more, by having the buttons.

Truth be told, I was a bit put off by the *thought* of having to depend on the infotainment interface, especially with having the speedometer off to the side and no knobs and buttons for environment controls, but after watching many videos of people using the interface successfully, I decided that I could probably acclimatize to the GUI if it were not too bad. Do note that I bought Perl, sight unseen, having never actually been inside any Tesla until I arrived to pick her up from Atlanta, I guess I exhibited a great amount of trust in channels like yours, and maybe a bit of reckless lack of caution. Still, there is a special grace that God bestows on fools like myself, and though at first it did require quite a bit of adjustment on my part I found myself liking it. In fact the adjustment wasn't really any worse than what I had experienced many times just switching from one brand of ICE car to another in the past. I now find that I actually prefer having many of the controls through the screen, and I certainly love having the screen on long trips for entertainment and information when parked.

My opinion... I think other manufacturers are using screens because having most things controlled via a screen reduces the cost of making the car as a result of not needing wires to multiple switches. I don’t have a problem with a screen per se, or the software, but trying to place your finger on a flat plane to ‘hit’ an icon is difficult unless you take your eyes off the road to look at the screen. Even then, on many UK roads the car is pitching a yawing so your finger might miss the target and switch something else! With a physical switch you can feel for it and also steady your hand using adjacent surfaces without unintentionally triggering some othe function.

If you are using a screen on a Model 3 or Y there's a trick to touchscreen while moving. For the bottom, assuming palm facing up, curl fingers on back of screen to steady and use thumb to select. You can't do that on screens built into the dash. Best to be in autopilot, or stopped really rather than find yourself staring at the screen while driving.

I've just come from a Cupra Leon PHEV to a tesla M3RWD, and the tesla is lightyears ahead. If you think the software is pants now, you should have seen it 3 years ago. 🙄Totally dogsh*t!! I do have a couple of issues with your review though. The traffic/rerouting is part of the 'premium connectivity' as in the Tesla, and works almost as good as the Tesla tbf. The volume control is easily adjusted on the steering wheel, and my car had no issues demisting the front window at all. Other than that, a fair review overall. I had many reliability issues in my 3 year lease, and ended up on first names terms with the local seat dealership 😂 who were dogshi*t as well though. 🤨 would never touch a VAG car again, totally lost their way.

Try a Skoda Enyaq next time - VAG but has real buttons! I drive an Enyaq and a M3, there are plus and minus to both. If I were unfamiliar with Tesla not sure I would want to pick one up at Heathrow or Gatwick and immediately contend with the M25. I used to do this regularly and it was not much fun after a long haul flight as it was always a different and unfamiliar hire car.

I like your videos. Normally well balanced, but not this one. I wouldn’t argue that the Tesla software system, and its screen are actually quite good. What irritated me about this video was the way you seem to be slagging off the whole of the VW group for one awful experience you had in a Seat. I drive an ID3 and would freely admit that VW have not a great record with their software development. My ID3 software (V3.5) just works. The sat nav works. Apple CarPlay works. I set the aircon and leave it alone cos it works. Nothing is perfect. And don’t start me on the new M3 indicator system. I drove one with the possibility of getting one. Not with that dangerous indicator system though.
