  • A sunny Sunday in February - perfect weather for a quick Tesla road trip! I start off in Aberdeen at the supercharger, the drive into the mountains to the Lecht Ski Centre.
    I was hoping there would be loads of snow on top of the mountain! I was disappointed, but at least I can have a look at the new destination chargers there.
    Not the longest road trip, but a very scenic one! Scenery montages are back by popular request!

    I drove most of that route, in the other direction, last June. There wasn't any snow then either! It was worth the drive in my LEAF.

    They have the same Project EV chargers in Maud and you can apparently use Electroverse card.
    Don't think it's a network charge as sure the one in Maud is nearer 30p.
    Expect to see more of them at private premises as CPS gradually get defunded.

    Big fan of yours. You have great blend of tongue in cheek and sensible ideas. Makes us laugh. 🤭 have you done an accessories video yet? I’ve seen quite a few if not all of your videos. 😊

    The funniest thing about those chargers is when there is snow you cant get them unless you have 20m cable as the snowplough puts snow against them😂😂

    Hi Ian, it certainly is gorgeous countryside. Must look really great with the heather in bloom. Maybe the upcoming budget will do something about the additional £400 pA luxury car road fund tax that will be applied to newly registered EVs over £40k for five years come 1st April 2025. Yes, EV's need to pay to use the roads but is this a good way to incentivise their use? Just look at that Federal tax credit in the USA. The UK Government talk about the advantages for business car use - how about the private motorist? We vote too.

    • @AdrianHilder
      @AdrianHilder 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If your UK employer operates the scheme, you can 'salary sacrifice' to lease an EV spending tax free money obtaining the same tax benefits a business owner leasing through their own business as a company car would get. Sadly not all employers offer this - costs to administer and dificulties if you leave the employment during the 2 to 4 year lease.

      @@AdrianHilderHi Adrian, nice idea, if only I was employed! Retired many moons ago. Snag is I now need a tallish car to be able to get in and out of easily. Tend to cost over £40K and I'm still saving. Maybe I can get in before the cut off date!

    No idea why they changed the orientation of a couple of those Supercharger units at Aberdeen. I'm sure they were all parallel to the road when originally installed.

    That is some illness if you cannot plug an EV into a charger, at home, for days!

  • @rhencullen
    @rhencullen 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hi Ian, well the Tesla experience of a new model Y long range so far after 3 days has been a little disappointing.
    Tesla opted to deliver the model Y to my house rather than me having to drive to Birmingham to collect it. But on the first drive (of 130 miles) once the calibration had completed, I tried cruise control - but it aborts after 5 or 6 seconds. Same with Autopilot. Park assist inaccessible messages appear every time I stop, even at traffic lights. The visualisations keep going away, it won’t detect speed changes reliably, and most of the time it doesn’t show any speed limit. Also sentry mode keeps switching off (still draining the battery, but switching off all the same with an unknown sentry error).
    So it’s booked for service (after 136 miles), and at the moment the earliest service appointment is 16 days away and requires a visit to the closest service centre, waiting to hear more and how long they might want it for, I hope they’d provide a loaner if it has to stay with them, but we’ll see. I guess that at least under the Uk credit regulations I have the legal right to reject and return it if necessary.

      @justgetatesla  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Have you tried hard resetting the car?

    • @rhencullen
      @rhencullen 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ve not done a factory reset, but I’ve tried the screen/panel reset with the scroll wheels, and I’ve done a power-off, wait 60 seconds and then power on again by holding the brake pedal.
      I figured a factory reset would likely reset the profiles and all settings as well, so thought I’d check with service so see if that’s their advice, or if they can see my remote telemetry that might indicate what the problem might be.
      I was hoping I’d raise a service request, maybe get a mobile appointment for someone to come out within the next few days, and that they’d just fix it, or at worst escalate to a service centre. I wasn’t expecting to be getting a provisional booking that’s 2 weeks away on a car that’s 2 days old and showing a fault from the first drive if I’m honest, but I’m still waiting to hear if there’s any change to the provisional booking for the 16th at the ‘local’ service centre.

    • @justgetatesla
      @justgetatesla  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Change the wheel size in the service menu. That forces a hard (not factory) reset. Then change the wheel size back to what you have fitted and see if that clears the bug.

    • @pauldingley6157
      @pauldingley6157 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@justgetatesla well, wheel size changed and changed back, short test drive this morning, three times the screen indicated that autopilot was available, and each time basic cruise control was engaged, it disengaged again within one second with the same Cruis control unavailable message DI_a175
      Reported on the service request and waiting to hear back. Hopefully I’ll get the chance to try Autopilot on the motorway later today, but I don’t hold out much hope of it working correctly.

    • @pauldingley6157
      @pauldingley6157 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@justgetatesla well, things have moved on a little. Soft reset, hard reset, nothing helped, booked a service appointment. After a couple of days diagnosis a service centre visit was suggested (16th March) for diagnosis, then a day later, and before the appointment the visit was rescheduled for the 30th (Today).
      Initial diagnosis was that a camera might need checking or possibly changing, then 10 days before the appointment it escalated to a waiting appointment for a possible computer board replacement, and now after 6 hours in service today Tesla have provided a loaner model 3, and the service tech is saying that the problem is ‘weird’ and needs escalating to the US, for a suspected complete change of the entire computer system (not just a FSD board change, but a swap of the entire driving computer system and all associated hardware).
      ETA on getting the car back has now been shunted back to mid April at the earliest!
      I’m not at all sure a loaner would have been provided if it weren’t for the fact that I’d already messaged service before the appointment to explain that due to changing family health issues being without a car is simply not an option under any circumstances!

    Hi. I wonder if you could comment on a range issue I have. I own a 2023 rwd model y with 100% range showing 260 miles. I was looking at travelling to Hexham which is 143 miles away. It is currently sitting at 98% showing 253 miles range. When I set the navigation it showed that I would arrive with 11%. With your driving experience does the expected arrival percentage change as you drive or having travelled 143 miles I will only have about 30 miles range left. Thanks.

    • @justgetatesla
      @justgetatesla  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The trick is to stop looking at the range on the screen at the top. That isn’t live, that’s WLTP. Lots of factors affect range - temperature, wet roads, wind. And how hard : gently you drive. The car will tell you how to drive - literally tell you to slow down below a target speed if you are burning too much energy to get there.
      For what it’s worth you will not get 260 miles from a RWD in winter.
