This is an eastbound trip over Bealach na Ba - the Pass of the Cattle - from Applecross in the Scottish Highlands to Inverness. Spectacular scenery and some impressive battery regeneration to boot!

Showing us the beauty and the scenery of Scotland is truly amazing. It's also telling about what the car can do and how the car handles long trips like this that needs to be seen for those who still claims EVs can't handle longer trips. I enjoyed every moment of those breathtaking views.

Great video and I love the preamble. You're right, the levels of FUD are unbelievable. I have just driven my Tesla Model 3 Highland 430 miles to the Isle of Seil, on the west coast of Scotland. Driving rain and strong winds, which nail your range, throughout. Charged at Charnock Richard, Tebay and Abington on the way up, and stayed at a hotel with a destination charger (Tigh an Truish).
Have just watched another YT video that was moaning about how much juice got consumed climbing up hills, completely ignoring the fact that you recoup most of it on the way down. Petrolheads simply can't get their head around that.

I experienced something similar wrt/ charging a few years back. It ended up being a non-event. There was a place i wanted to go to but it had no superchargers. I picked the closest one to where I wanted to go, entered my destination, computer responded with "no problem, charge at X for Y minutes in order to have A% SoC at your destination; if you do a round-trip back to this charger, you will return with B% SoC"; since all values were within our comfort zones, we took the trip :)

It will be interesting to see how it all goes. V2 Superchargers are not open to them so the one I use the most won't be shared until it's upgraded by Tesla. I did this in my Model 3 in the new year and instantly regretted not filming it. In Summary:
Applecross to Bealach na Ba summit: 945Wh/mile
Applecoss to joining main road at sea level: 280Wh/mile
    Average winter tyre efficiency: 270Wh/mile.
This route was a testament to how efficient regen braking is with electric cars! If you do this route in a petrol car, you don’t get fuel back in your tank on the downhill leg. You just get hot brakes and hot clutches.

As far as people using the wrong spot at Superchargers, I saw a Supercharger station in America with plexiglass in the center so that you could only use it on the side the cable was available. However, those were V3's. Something similar will need to be done with V4's. Perhaps labeling the stall AND the parking spot with the same number to make drivers aware of which side to use for that stall.

All done without refuelling, just 5 minute toilet breaks because I have a driving partner who could let me eat, drink and rest in the passenger seat and then take turns, not these incredible hour long toilet / charge breaks that Llewelyn's imaginary bladder range advocates that he says every body must take ( Real Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt ) A distance that is just a dream for any Tesla. Should have bought a diesel, you could have had a more logistically able car for much less money and without the worry about charging every 180 miles ( leave some of the total range for in use or broken chargers ). I was like you in my EV early years, at every opportunity I used to eulogise about EV's to anybody who would listen but time experience and degradation changed my opinion to the complete opposite. Never again.

The screen i thing not for me have driven a few Teslas. But clearly people like 😊 I do not like this sort of info display in any car ice or ev. Fantasic scenery makes me want fire up the SL roof down and do that trip with Matt Munroe on days like these playing.

Surely there is no such thing as ‘The wrong side’ on V4 superchargers as the cable is long enough for both Tesla and or Non Tesla vehicles

The wrong side - connected to the tombstone on the right. Always use the one on the left. Even when your charging hole is on the right

Great video, it really isn't a problem to do long trips in a Tesla, I drove my model Y from Perthshire to Northern Italy and back, via the Newcastle - Amsterdam ferry, with no issues what so ever. Maybe you should do a European road trip some time?

Agree, we're off to Italy in ours in a month or so. Ours is also a Y LR, apparently only suitable for local trips. The last local trip was to a local shop in Switzerland to buy a gift. All local... From the hotel once we got there.

CHARGING PORT LOCATION....what a world...can't they all just agree to standardise?
China's GEELY group get it so
    Volvo
    Polestar
    ZEEKR
have their charging port in left side rear like TESLA
NIO older cars are in various places but all recent models in China and export models
are Supercharger friendly left side rear.
MG4 also in SC centric left side rear
    Sadly
    XPENG
    BYD
    are not
Nor are any of the German EVs.
At least some vehicles have their port in the left side front that will be fine on V4.

  • @johnhill2813
    @johnhill2813 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

It needs, and I hate to say this, an EU directive that states that all EVs must have a charging point at the middle of the front and rear of the car. Universal style charging points and the problem? is solved.

Let me inform you if you cant use a iPad whilst driving why are why allowed to use a iPad in a EV if it is un safe to take your eyes of the road using mobiles due to distraction, why does the DVLA allow this screen which is a distraction.

    • @djtaylorutube
      @djtaylorutube 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Because it's not an ipad, nor is it illegal to use a mobile phone in a vehicle as the driver.

    • @pg6557

It’s also not a distraction. once you’re used to it, you interact mostly using voice control. You don’t have to adjust everything constantly while you’re driving. People are going so crazy with this hard button thing but once you get used to it, it’s really the best way to drive.

      Neil!
We are considering switching from an electric car to petrol or diesel. I have some questions to see if it really suits me and my family and hope someone knowledgeable can help?
      1. I have heard that a petrol car cannot be refueled at home but I have to go to a special place for this? How often do I have to fill up, is it several times a year? Will there be options for refueling at home? We are used to the car being filled up every morning, as sort of by itself.
      2. Are there many parts that need to be replaced? The seller said something about oil and filter change, gearbox, timing belt and other service. Do you see how many percent degradation you have on the wearing parts or will they break suddenly?
      3. Do I often have to brake with the brake pedal, or can I accelerate and brake with the same pedal as in my current car? Do I get gas back into the tank when I brake or go downhill?
      4. Do all petrol and diesel cars have much slower acceleration? I test drove one yesterday and it felt like it took a very long time from when I stepped on the gas pedal until it reacted. Maybe there was something wrong with that particular car?
      5. We now pay £0.02/mile but with the petrol it will be about £0.13, even if the new car is cheaper to buy it will very soon cost more. We drive 15,000 miles per year. We hope that more people will use petrol so that the prices will go down... is there such a trend?
      6. I have understood that petrol and diesel consist largely of oil. Is it true that the extraction of oil is associated with global environmental problems and widespread wars with absolutely terrible consequences for people around the world, including several world wars and trouble in the last 100 years in which tens of millions of people have died? Is there any solution to that in sight, we don't want to contribute to such crap, do we?
      7. My son also heard that petrol cars emit fumes and toxic gases. I’ve read about air pollution and its impact on respiratory health. Are we contributing to that by switching to a petrol or diesel car?
Will these pose risks to our health and the environment?
... have more questions but these are the ones I came up with now. Thanks for all the help!
