- A sunny day in late February - the perfect weather to go mountain climbing in a Tesla! I start off in Inverness at the supercharger and drive through the beautiful snowy Scottish highlands.
Highlight of the trip is driving the Bealach Na Ba road - the "Pass of the Cattle" This climbs from sea level to 2,000 and back to sea level, with a series of tortuous hairpin bends.
I was hoping there would be loads of snow on top of the mountain - I wasn't disappointed. Finally we get to see just how much power my Tesla regenerates into the batter. Watch the % state of charge increase the further down the mountain we go!
Welcome to Just Get a Tesla, where I do a series of tests and challenges to help show people that instead of shopping around for EVs they should just get a Tesla...

Nice to see a drive done at a safe speed for the conditions, And what views!
What a fantastic video! Thanks so much for introducing this Yank to your part of the world and the joys of Tesla scenic drives!
This place is unbelievably beautiful. I put that on my travel list.
What a great scenery! Thanks for sharing 😊
thank you for such a fantastic video. great scenery. and a great car
What absolutely stunning scenery! Thank you for sharing. The regen worked well I thought.
Love your road trips keep up the good work!
Enjoyed it thanks
Fantastic road trip Ian I love the highlands and Inverness my dad and grandparents come from Inverness lovely place and great scenery👍😁
Nice scenic drive again. Really lovely to watch. My family wants to visit Scotland. I am still a bit reluctant. The countryside looks more than nice, but I always hear the story about rain during summer season and the mosquitoes… so what is the best time to visit and not too many tourists, rain and mosquitoes 😇
February!
April always 2 nice weeks not to busy.
Nice review, I know that road well and you were lucky to get such a great day for your trip.
Love the light and scenery of Scotland. Where I live it’s all flat.
Stunning scenery Ian
Great video. Amazing scenery. 😊
G'Day Ian. That was your best road trip to date by far ! Regards from Australia.
Great video
Stunning drive 👍
I loved driving that road when we stayed in Lochcarron a year past in December. From Loch Kishorn it was snow all the way to Applecross and back. Great scenery at the top of Skye. Driving my 2020 Hyundai Ioniq Electric was fun and felt sad for those at the top with radiators steaming and Lochcarron Garage breakdown truck mechanic telling a few that he will be up and down all day to collect cars with blown head gaskets and brake failure at the bottom ( not an issue driving electric). So width wise that mechanic drove his flat bed breakdown truck on that narrow road in the snow all winter. They were advertising for a mechanic in the Garage and starting salary was £50000/year plus call out bonuses, of which I assume would be many on the pass!
It’s a spectacular part of the world!
Very nice drive
Superb video!!!!!!! That car seems to have a decent turning circle.
Wonderful scenery. Scotland is beautiful and I would live there if it wasn’t for the weather and midges. I would hate to think what would happen if you had a breakdown or puncture, or had to make a u turn.
I will be driving my MY to Scotland this year and plan to visit to Inverness. So thanks for this video. For people reading the comments on here. I drove from Dorset to Aberfoyle last year and had no problems charging enroute .
To be fair about weather and midges, I live in the north east where we're largely sheltered from both the weather and midges!
Wow two way road! nuts.
After a few weeks of agonising over MY poor ride quality I gave in and picked up my MYLR last Saturday. I recon the test drive MY had overinflated tyres or something. My car's ride and handling is spot on for me. Super pleased. Now all I need you to do for me is package up some Scottish highland roads for me to drive on and mail them down south to Hampshire 😂
That’s what superchargers are for 😏
Special-tacular!
The 4wd advantage of the long range.
Love to have seen the inside of the pub…
I was planning to eat there! Was shut
Hi Ian. Did the same trip a year past in the summer. The sun was splitting the skies and when we stopped at the top there was only one car parked up. Lucky or what. Are there any Tesla chargers north of Inverness?
Not yet, but they’re installing some at Brora
Hope you're not still on the summer tyres just. Got perfect weather by the look of that and no ICE soundtrack spoiling it.
I am. Couldn't source anything else when it was worth swapping. Will now run the summers down and switch to all-season in the summer...
@@justgetateslaI got some cheap winter tyres ("Radar" - £100 a corner for 18") in Peterhead. Hammered economy probably a good 10% but they're sacrificial for potholes this time of year anyway so cheap is good.
Found the PS4s pretty bad last year in snow so figure it was worth it for the grip.
@@justgetatesla I have Pirelli Scorpion EV tyres on my Model Y and I have been very happy with them.
@@grahamleiper1538 Cheap winter tyres can be a very bad idea, they tend to have terrible wet grip, tyre reviews recently did a review about this and the results for the cheap tyre where appalling.
I’ve got snow socks if it gets impossible. It’s not snow that worries me as much as wet /cold grip, despite the AWD. CrossClimate2 will go on when needed, somewhere past 30k miles. Would have made the summers last longer had I bothered to rotate them last summer
Been to Applecross many times on road trips. We had 17 MINI’s go up the pass and round the coast road to Ullapool and then Durness before the NC500 was even a thing. We left Ullapool at 7:30am and at points didn’t see another vehicle for 30 minutes at a time. Do u get regen down the other side?
Watch to the end! Massive regen. Many percentage points added into the battery. I think it was doing something like -460 watt hours per mile
Cycled up it as part of the NC500 in 22. 2.5 hours to get to the top 😂
Ow!
Can you show the charging curve on the y?
I don’t have it to hand. Google can assist
Shame you can’t show the 30 mile reading on the energy screen, the 5 mile doesn’t really show the sheer amount the graph drops when putting the energy back into the battery.
What tyres do you have on?
The wrong tyres - OEM summers 🙁
@@justgetateslaOh dear! I'd have been terrified! The car doing this run here (th-cam.com/video/msTlTGPC9Q4/w-d-xo.html) is the same as mine, and with the same tyres (Goodyear all-seasons). I don't feel safe in winter with summer tyres on.
Great video. If you're going to do that trip, that's the time of year and the weather to do it.
Suspension looks very very bad on that footage
The ROAD is very very bad! Though to be fair the Model Y is quite stiff…
@@justgetatesla sadly we tried the y overnight and it’s no for us, too tall for front seats and can’t believe headrest doesn’t adjust 🤯🤯🤯
Batteries operated car bus ,fire engine just waiting for karakaboom moving fire risk batteries need to replace when degraded any appliances like toy, phones, that use battery need to dispose wat ever names u call them
Fear
Uncertainty

I drive EV - but NOT a Tesla - Because I don't like when Elon Musk speaks antisemitism and fascism!
I try to ignore everything he says which isn’t Tesla, SpaceX or Starlink related.
@@justgetatesla Well I can't :D
