The investment in and success of the team has revitalised the whole town. They're certainly headed for the premiership. A good team, but just as important, the belief. Out of all the forms of rugby, 7s is the most openly competitive/ even, Countries that don't have a long history of playing are closing the gap quickly on more established nations. I'm from Aotearoa/ New Zealand and rugby is a religion as American Football is for your nation. The Rugby players for you guys, with NFL backgrounds find rugby more open, as the game is continuous, and you have to perform offence and defence with no blockers. seven of you, for 7 minutes a half or 10 minutes a half if you crack the final. The demand on players is high. They're all pure athletes, the stamina, agility, quickness , speed and grit to play is the stuff of legends. The USA was actually the first word champion team . Rugby never grew in the U.S but that' seems to be changing now from what I see, in terms of the 15 per side version. Your 7's program must be strong too, as your National team is a genuine threat. My nation has been humbled on more than one occasion by you guys in this form of the game, it's only a matter of time before the 15 a side game moves in the same direction. Even if only 10-15% of your nation plays the game that'll still equate to millions, and of those players there's already a beginning toward winning the Rugby World Cup again in the 15's and for the first time in the 7's. It's just a matter of time. There are only 5 and a half million people in NZ, so on share numbers you have a bigger pool of highly motivated and increasingly better coached athletes and competitive leagues. Sadly missed now he has retired, some people felt he was a bit of a showboat but he made games better by making the players know exactly what he would tolerate. There are plenty of dark arts in Rugby that can slow play or stifle creativity, Nigel was great at putting a stop to that.
