6 nations starts again in February. Its the greatest annual rugby tournament in the world. 6 teams, England France Ireland Italy Scotland and Wales. Play one game home or away against eachother. 5 of those 6 genuinely have a good chance of beating any of the other teams on the day. That's what makes nearly all the games worth watching even if your own team aren't in it. Wales v England and France v England would be the 2 top fixtures in the tournament traditionally.

France played 3 world cup finals (lost all, but still amazing), only 5 teams played in the finals in the world Cup, England , France, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa, France also won 5 titles of the 6 nation since 2000, they are one of the big teams in the 6 nations, the problem is that France also is the team that sometimes just lose against vastly worst teams, they are really unpredictable, but also considered one of the best nations in Rugby, probably the most dangerous nation for the all blacks in world cups.

You can understand someone who's new to Rugby underestimating France. French rugby had spent a good few years of late in a low spot internationally. They kept picking massive monsters over the natural French skilful handling player. When the French play the traditional 'French Way' it's not only deadly, it's also a thing of beauty. France is back to playing more of their natural flair game again now and I tip them to win the next world cup at home. But with France the old saying is still true...... "You never know which French team is going to show up"...... 'Smoking hot' or 'not tonight Josephine'.

The ending is pretty confusing unless you're well versed in rugby laws. This had a couple of those rules that only really happen once in a thousand games. Very rare. Its been explained already but it has to do with the substitution laws and how they effect scrumming. France in the controversial bit may or may not (depending on who you ask) have been trying to manipulate the concussion protocols in rugby which allow for a player to be freely substituted for 10 minutes to allow for a head injury assessment. They would have done this to get a tired player off the field for a player who had been subbed earlier in the game and was much fresher. The second involved injured players returning to the field. As scrums are incredibly dangerous, some positions can only be played by specially trained players. If there are no specialist players to form a scrum, then the scrum can't be competed. However, if a player in this specialist position has been subbed off and their replacement is yellow carded/red carded or forced off due do injury, they may have a free replacement to ensure scrums are competed. However, if a player has been taken/subbed off due to injury, obviously, they can't then come back onto the field to replace a yellow/red card or injured player because they are considered injured. The ref was trying to find out if the player was injured or subbed to find out if the yellow carded player could be replaced and scrums competed. PS: If a specialist yellow carded player is replaced, the team must still choose 1 player from their team to leave the field to ensure that the team still plays 1 man down.

One thing I remember about that was a player (French, I think) yellow-carded minutes before the normal end who was able to do his ten minutes in the bin and come back to play another 15 minutes more.

I realised it was Samson Lee the Welsh prop who was sin-binned with the clock in the red and was still able to come back to finish on the field which must be unique.

A deliberate knock-on is called when you bat down a pass intended for an opponent. You're entitled to intercept, but if you fail to catch it and knock it forward, that's a knock on and a scrum is awarded. If the referee judges you did it deliberately to obstruct the pass without trying to catch it, he can award a penalty. If you do it when your opponent has a try-scoring opportunity (and that's really the only situation it happens), that's usually a yellow card - ten minutes in the sin bin. If the referee thinks it would have been a definite try but for the infringement, he'll award a penalty try - 7 automatic points to the team who would have scored. In this case, he judged it was deliberate and prevented a try-scoring opportunity, so a yellow card, but not a certain try, so a penalty and not a penalty try.
As for the orientation of the ball when kicking, a rugby ball is rounder at the ends than an American football, so you can kick it end-on and hit the sweet spot. An American football is narrower and pointier at the ends (designed to be thrown overarm), so to catch the sweet spot you need to hit it closer to the middle.

France was always a big threat in the 6 Nations (and 5 Nations as it was before Italy joined). in the period 2002-2010 France won the championship in 2002 (grand slam), 2004, (grand slam), 2006, 2007 and 2010 (grand slam). Since then it has been dominated by England, Ireland and Wales whilst the French are trying to find their 'mojo' again but they are looking very threatening again.

You may not have noticed the ''waterboy'' on the Welsh side. He is Neil Jenkins, a former Wales player and kicker. He is credited as the highest scoring Welsh player ever and the 1st to tally 1000 points in international games. Leigh Halfpenny is good, but Neil Jenkins is still the GOAT! Also, Shane Williams deserves an episode of his own. Our ''Pocket Rocket'', aka the Welsh Wizard, his stepping skills are sublime.

France and england are the 2 major teams in the northern hemisphere historically. England is the only NH team to have won the rugby world cup in 2003 and France made it to the final three times in 1987 (the first ever RWC), 1999 and in 2011 (very epic final that you should react to btw). Moreover, France is the team that has the best record against the all blacks (the best team of all times) of all the northern hemisphere sides. Ireland and wales have never performed well in world cups and have been relatively bad in the 6 nations up until the 2000s. As for scotland and italy, we can safely say that they have always been the least competitive teams in the 6N. You should check out the 6N page on wikipedia to improve your knowledge on this amazing competition.
Next videos I recommand you are : france wales 1998 and france ireland 2007.

thw knock on at 2:30 wasnt against wales it was against the french player who went in for the tackle but accidently knocked the ball so the ref the checkin whether he knocked the ball deliberately to prevent a try hence why the "penalty try" decision was on stand by. they found him guilty for deliberate knock on which is illegal resulting in him being yellow carded but the penalty try was not given as they could not be certain a try wouldve been scored. u were right the "deliberate" knock on wasnt deliberate it was the wrong call from the ref. it shouldve just been a scrum for wales cos it was an accidental knock on

  • @rocketrabble6737

The discussion going on is about whether there is an uninjured prop available to come on. You cannot put just anybody as a replacement in the front row; it is just too dangerous! They must be nominated as front row players before the game begins or the referee will call for 'uncontested' scrums which means the two packs are not allowed to push at all when the ball is fed in. If a player goes off for a head injury assessment (HIA) he must return within 15 minutes or he is not allowed back at all, so Wayne Barnes was trying to confirm exactly why, 'officially', the the French front row player went off earlier.
There must have been some sore bodies next day after that!

Hi Blake. Have you seen the 1995 Rugby World Cup final? It was between South Africa and New Zeeland. It was held in South Africa and it was the first Rugby World Cup South Africa played after sanctions were lifted. That was by far the match of the century. Watch our (South Africa) flyhalf, Joel Stransky, in that game. In my opinion, this is the biggest and hardest rugby game ever.

I was gonna suggest the same game too but thought it might bring back some painful memories! I was a rugby mad 13 year old at the time, i got up in the early hours to watch it with my dad. It was an amazing game and both teams deserved the win. The Springboks are always a great battle, and they came out on top that day (and in the last one :) )

One thing that I suppose a lot of people don't realise, is that for this game (that whole 6 nations tournament) the timer didn't stop during periods of inactivity. This had now changed, and the ref can call stoppage on the timer so that the clock doesn't keep on running while medical staff / controversy is on the field.
One of the Lions Tour 21 games, the 1st half actually took almost an hour due to stoppages, but the actual game clock still only recorded 80min in total

    • @stuartmcivor2276
      @stuartmcivor2276 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

That's not true - the clock did stop during the 80 minutes but, once the 80 minutes is up, the clock is no longer stopped which is why it went up to 99 minutes (and why the yellow carded welsh player was able to come back on) - the same rules still apply.

Deliberately causing the ball to go forward with a hand is a penalty. You don't need possession to do so. The penalty was against France.
Understand this... It didn't happen here (I think it should have) but if the ref determines that if except for a penalty a try would have been scored he can award a penalty try (7 points).
Yes, in rugby, the ref can scoreboard you.
Still my favorite player is Shane Williams. I believe he still holds the Welsh record for most tries. The reason he is my favorite player isn't evident in 'highlights". He had an incredible work rate, what he was doing when he didn't have the ball.
Think on this.... Generally speaking no player has possession of the ball for more than 2 minutes. What are they doing for the other 78 minutes?

The 'knock on' at 3:03 was a bit professional foul I think. Wayne Barnes, the referee has been 'round the block a few times' and he knows those sort of tricks. You can try to intercept a pass but you cannot deliberately Knock the ball on; even more so to prevent a try and that was the only way the French player could do so there!

th-cam.com/video/IMjNdff5G50/w-d-xo.html. Here is a random high school game to watch. No allegiances, regular season, no trophy on the line, just playing for pride. Watch the game play, the movement, how the clock is “managed”. Defense is not world level but the offensive objectives are similar to a pro or test match. Watch the breakdowns when the forwards are sucked in and how the backs in offense try to be creative to break the line.
