Most his professional career he was told that he was too small to play for the National team. Got given one shot and the jersey his own since then. Proved literally all of his doubters wrong.
Others have already said it, but there is no "best player in the world". It's a team sport and if any of the team misfires then you are losing. Some players get the glory by scoring the try, but without the forwards they wouldn't even have the ball in the first place. Kolbe is the best wing in the world right now and probably the most dangerous player with ball in hand, but that is as far as the plaudits can go. He is no more or less important to the Springboks than Etzebeth, Marx, Kolisi, Mapimpi, etc.
Rumour has it Kolbe can slip through a tackle in a telephone booth...

Another good video to watch "The 'Boks" [Springboks = South Africa] in action is the 2019 Rugby World Cup final against England in Japan. What was remarkable about their performance is that they were beaten by New Zealand [The All Blacks] in a pool match and still made it to the final. The first time this has happened.

Hi Blake, Cheslin is still playing. When he is not playing for South Africa he is playing club rugby in France
Yup he just left Toulouse team for Toulon. Toulouse won the top 14 this year, he was one of the reasons why.
When Cheslin is in red he is playing for his club [Tolouse?] in France. In blue and white stripes that is his Province - West Province Stormers - in Cape Town South Africa. Green and gold is South Africa - The Springboks.
Kolbe is hilarious. Not very big, but so talented, so quick, and the best sidestep I've ever seen. That clip of him falling on his arse and still beating an entire team to score is my favourite. I should hate him, because he's eaten Ulster (my team) on toast twice playing for Toulouse in the Heineken Cup, but how can you hate a player who's so skilled and so entertaining?
As for whether he's the best player in the world, that's harder to say. Different positions demand different kinds of players and have different influences on the game. It's like asking if Joe Montana was a better player than Lawrence Taylor (dated references I know, that's how long since I've watched American football).
Once very exciting young player I haven't seen anybody react to - Marcus Smith, young Harlequins fly-half, looks like the future of English rugby. Another player I should hate because he plays for England, but it's impossible to, he's so much fun.

A great one to watch is last season’s English Premiership Final between Harlequins and Exeter. It’s probably the most entertaining match I’ve seen, and Smith ran the show.

Kolbe is a special player, i think you guys call them playmakers in American football, he just makes things happen, wins games or turns games around with one play type of player
Cheslin used to play for the Stormers in as last few years he's played for Toulouse in France but he just signed the biggest contract in rugby (which isn't much compared to football players and American sports) for Toulon another French club. Everyone has different opinions on who's the best player in the world a lot of people say Cheslin a lot say Antoine Dupont and I couldn't tell you who I thought was better out of those two and a lot of people say other players such as Richie Mounga, Semi Radrada, etc
He normally plays wing but can play 15, 10 and 9.i went to school with him, he only weights around 180lbs lol but built like a rock. Now the highest paid player in the in the world. Do me a favor and react to Eben Etzebeth, our South African number 4. Best lock in the world and loves to fight. Not to mention his custom made 170lbs dumbells lol. He weighs around 280lbs and around 7 foot, time you get acquainted with the big boys
Cheslin is coming and playing for my hometown and province. This guy is a freak of nature. Lol. He is absolutely brilliant. I would most definitely rate him the best wing in the world. And yesterday we spoke about the guy kicking penalties. He is not a nr 10 which is the half-back. He normally plays 11 or 14 which are the wings or he can play full back which is nr 15. He doesn't normally kick penalties, but he can if he is needed or asked to do so.
When he’s not wearing a scrumcap (the padded helmet) that’s when he’s playing for South Africa’s 7s rugby team. 7 players a side, it’s a much faster game.
Kolbe is a brilliant wing, and one of the best in the world (can't say for sure if he's THE best). What I do know is that he made some sort of deal with the devil to be fast, have what have to be the strongest ankles in the sport, and be made of Teflon or some other physics-defying substance :)

@@carlohuman9581 As a winger or in general? Because if we're talking across the board, Kolbe wouldn't even be top 5 players currently. As a winger he is definitely up there, but so are a few others.
@@Youre in general... Because name me one other guy who can that, (in the video), play wing, play Flyhalf in a European final as well, play fullback, play scrumhalf against the B&I lions.. Play 7's for the blitz boks and to put the cherry on cake, drop goals 55m in a final...

@@carlohuman9581 being able to do all those things doesn’t make him the best player? One of the most versatile in terms of positions, sure, but you can be as versatile as you want and still not be the best player on the team.
To answer your question - Damian McKenzie. He can do all those things and is actually probably more versatile than Koble in terms of his skillset
That only makes him a utility player. There are many players like that on a rugby team. Beauden Barrett, and Damien MacKenzie do all those things for the All Blacks alone. Then theres Jordan Barrett who can also play anywhere from number 10-15. It isnt that uncommon.

Antoine Dupont is the best player in the world imo. Kolbe certainly isn’t far off though. In Rugby your forwards and scrum-half/fly-half tend to have more influence on the outcome of games as they get the ball more. Kolbe is the ideal guy to finish off tries, although he also has a lot of the skills to play 9/10.

You seem like a nice decent dude doing what you like more than showing people what they want. Real recognize real, basically. Your channel's growing because of that.
That being said, it can't be only one best player., overall. But only at the position you play.
Like as instance he can't play as a second lock position, he' too small for that. Eben Etzebeth one of his teamates representing his country is one of the best second locks.
Every body frame is needed in a team, every different skills can't be stocked in only one man.
But you need to be at least aware of every possibilities since you play attack and defense on the fly.
One of the reason why USA football can't be popular in countries where rugby is a thing.
Maybe one of the best backs...I would say Michael Hooper from Australia has to be the most consistent and best forwards still currently playing.

Best player, pound for pound, probably.... haha ... it is like comparing boxers in different weight classes .... but he is brilliant!
Possibly the greatest player. When he plays for The Springboks one of their tactics is to use the maximum force allowed by the rules to wear their opponents down. This means later in the game Kolbe is running against utterly battered defenders. This is also behind the Bomb Squad tactic of avoiding substitutions till the last 20 minutes. Swap on a team of fresh brutes and a few fresh steppers for the last 20 mins to distract and batter without tiring means he gets to toy with the opponent. It's a tactic which hasn't been working quite as well as hoped this season. Although every team is blooding new players at the moment. Look for the recent Canan Moodie intercept for who will step in when he gets injured during the World Cup. All the other teams will be doing this at the moment so look out for Debutantes doing incredible feats.
There isn't really a best player in the world really it's more of who is the best in a position and Cheslin Kolbe is for sure the best winger in the world right now no doubt about that

The "best rugby player" is an impossible call to make, because players in different positions have completely different roles in the game. Kolbe is a winger, which is potentially the flashiest position on the field because of the possibility of spectacular running (as you saw). The forwards have completely different strengths and skills, and to the uninitiated, seldom get to do anything as spectacular as that. But is Kolbe the best winger? Yeah, quite possibly.
He plays 9,10,11,14,15. The best player in the world atm or when he's playing I should say. His 100m won't be the fastest because he's quite shirt so has short legs but his 40m will be very fast.
THIS IS SO HARD TO QUANTIFY, THE STANDARDS ARE WAY TOO HIGH. I MEAN LOOK AT JONAH LOMU, GREATEST WING EVER, IN HIS ERA, BUT WITH THE BEASTS OF TODAY HE WOULD BE LOOKED AT THE SAME AS CHESLIN, WITH REVERENCE RATHER THAN CERTAINTY.
I wouldn't rate him the best in the world. Hes one of the best in his position for sure, but best in the world? I dont think so.

Lol it is so cringe that they continously have these reaction videos for the "best player" in Rugby it is not about one player. they will tell you this themselves, the smallest man on the field is expected to tackle also .. everyone works on the field and they give it their heart! Rugby unlike NFL is not about the glory of being the best and earning the most it is actually about giving it your all , for the game first and the fans second..it is literally more than a sport for the player and the fans. I do not think Americans would get it, your sports are very capitalistic so it is just different.
I do not know what Kobie's 100m dash is but I can say his cousin Wayde holds the 400m world record lol so speed is in his blood but also as a cape colored , his culture and mine I can tell you our people are fast , we been running our whole lives figuratively and literally. so YEAH it is not just his blood it is his culture too, I am just glad they giving our people more scope and respect in sports lately , they know our boys are good we just do not get the opportunities like our black and white counterparts do
