At the last Olympics there were 16 teams in the men's rugby sevens competition and they played 34 games over 2 days. There was also a women's competition.

    LOL.
5:21 I love how when the narrator is saying 'To stop you from scoring your opponents will try and stop you by tackling", they show a video of a defender trying to hold the ball carrier up and the ball carrier doing his best to go to ground.
As far as I know there are only a few Law changes between 15s and 7s. the major ones are....
    Time played (duh).
Drop kick conversions. (to speed up play- no waiting on a tee.)
The team that scores kicks to the team that didn't.
I remember seeing a 7s match back in the 90s before that last one was changed. One team was so much better than the other that in the first half the other team never once had possession while the ball was in play.
At the start of the second half the first team finally had to kick to the other one. The guy running up to receive the kick saw he wasn't going to catch the ball on the fly so he kicked it on the fall.
The outcome is that the second team never once had possession when the ball was in play.
The first team was Old Mission Beach Athletic Club (OMBAC). Out of respect I will not name the other team. They were embarrassed enough.
7s is never just one match. It's played in tournaments usually over a two day period but I have been to events with 64 teams played out in one day.

i was commenting on ur video but it couldnt be posted i think thats when it was taken down haha. u said smth about a no arms in the tackle during nz vs usa. and yes tackling with only ur shoulder is not allowed thats called a "shoulder charge" in rugby after the tackler makes contact with his shoulder on the ball carrier he must wrap him immediately with his arms. if the tackler does not wrap or attempt to wrap his arms when makin a tackle penalty is awarded to the attacking team. sometimes the impacts of the shoulder on the ball carrier can be too hard resulting on the ball carrier hitting the ground before the tackler has time to wrap his arms around him, the action is then reviewed by the ref to see if a "shoulder charge" was committed. as long as the tackler shows that he was attempting to wrap his arms around the ball carrier post impact the tackle is deemed legal and play continues.

The USA is very competitive in 7s .
They have a regular international series circuit. The USA finished second one season. They have beaten NZ a handful of times.
They are realistic medal chance at the Olympics. They lost in a the quarter final, when they were ahead until the last minute.

7s is almost a different sport to the full 15 man game. There are players who look amazing in 7s, but look pretty mediocre when they step up to 15s. It's almost like taking a sprinter and sticking them in a marathon, and vice versa. By the way, Rugby League has something similar, but oddly their usual game is 13 players and their shorter version is 9 players per team. The NRL always has a big 9's tournament before the main competition begins.

Well done Blake. Sorry you had to experience a "strike". Now you are a "real" TH-camr, living on the edge. Wild and untamed. Ha. Anyway, Rugby 7's has often been referred to as "Rugby 15's on "speed"". Even though it is only 7 minutes each way with 2 min half time break, your body gets wrecked with the speed of the game. Meaning, you have to be ultra fit to be able to play. Might end up playing 8 games in two days!
Plus, you don't just play one game. 7's games are played in Tournament format. Meaning, depending on the number of other teams competing, you might be required to play 3 games each day. Tournaments can be one day , two day or even 3 days. Spectators get to watch sometimes 15 or 20 games, or more, in a day. It all becomes one big party which is why people dress up in fancy dress and consume large amounts of alcohol. Great fun. LOL
Ever tried to run fast etc when you are only semi fit? Even fully fit, the stopping and starting, all at speed with no real chance to recover, most players are seizing up with cramp by the time you are on your 3rd game of the day. Also, your guts feel as if they are trying to exit your body at either end and you are sucking in the air like a beached whale! I suggest watch full games of 7's. Not just the highlights. Then you can see them disintegrate and turn into a quivering mass of jello.
Oh, also, to stop teams slowing the game down, Refs make faster decisions. They are particularly tough on attempted intercept passes. If you catch it, great. If not, breaking the play of the attacking team is considered a professional foul and the player, if unsuccessful at catching the ball, is yellow carded. (Two mins off) In a game of 7 min. halves, two minutes is a long time for your team to be down to 6 players.

There is no down time in sevens at all so you know you played by the end. When I used to be involved in sevens tournaments very likely you played 4 games over the day.
The USA has a pretty high ranking in terms of sevens rugby.

7s is tactically very different. You body requirements and training is very different.
You have to be leaner and fitter.

14 minutes that's a short game. Go outside now and sprint flat out for 7 minutes then take a 1 minute break then sprint flat out for another 7 minutes then tell me that was short! now play 5 games in a day then 5 games the next day. 7's hurts.

I wondered what had happened when notifications & a heart from you brought"no results found"-thought you'd taken it down yourself cos you'd got pissed at some of the comments!-at least good to know it wasn't that...
Sevens is more fluid due to the space,& suits people with a short attention span+ the IOC, advertisers also, I suppose. One thing is very different- NZ are challenged for being the world's best by the giants-in Sevens-of FIJI-(yes,really)

Reposting because of your unfortunate loss. You've mentioned loving the nail biter games, so here's Scotland vs USA from 2018! I think you'll enjoy seeing your team with their best players on the field (they were not present for the all blacks thrashing) and really making the 6th best team in the world, at that time, sweat.
Avoid reading the title before watching if you can as it tells you the score!

I didn't think that was very good ....... it basically is Union with seven a side and some minor rule changes. What he could have done is explain how the game is very different with 7 a side ...... ie, lots more space on the field for running plays, so the game doesn't get bogged down in rucks, mauls, teams trundling upfield a few yards at a time. And the games are played in tournaments over a few days with numerous games each day leading to Finals at the end of the last day
