french players are known for their flair and showy tries, but usually their defence and discipline lets them down, the former wales defence coach shaun edwards has taken over the french defence and now they are one of the hardest teams to score against, lots of people are tipping them to win the next world cup which is in france so they have a home advantage as well.

Antoine Dupont is always where he's supposed to be. No mistakes, high game IQ, not especially flashy or some, but key player.
BTW France defense is now considered as one of the toughest to beat.
Goal line defense being one of the most dramatic and suspens moments in a match, whatever you're supporting the attacking team or the defensive one.
Defender being tackle in his try zone means dead ball. Reset and kick from the 22's.

Ball kicked forward into the try area by the attacking team and its grounded by the defence in their try area, 22 drop out kick to the defence.

Defending players tackled behind own try line -
Tackled and ground the ball then defending team restarts play with drop kick from 22 line
Doesn’t ground ball attacking team gets scrum put in 5 metres out
Defending player over own try line and gets tackled 5 meters scrum regardless of whether they touch it down or not ( attack put in)

The red card was to Willemse the French Lock they did not show it very well here but I remember it being shown from the other side. He came in at the side and 'cleared out' the Welsh captain, Wyn-Jones, from the ruck with an illegal 'neck roll' AND made contact with the prop’s eyes as well. Either of those offences is a red card offence and there are no replacements for players sent off.
A yellow card leads to a player being sent to the 'sin bin' for ten minutes of actual playing time. The one given to Toby Faletau around 71 mins for offside was probably an 'accumulative' offence. When Liam Williams was yellow-carded it meant Wales had no full back.
If it is a front row forward sent off, you are permitted to take off another player and bring on a replacement front-rower, because only players who are trained and registered as front row forwards are permitted to play there. If a team runs out of uninjured front row forwards then the referee calls for 'uncontested scrums' which is awful, but fortunately doesn't happen very often.

Hey i'm late but the answer to your question at 7:14 is : in this match it was a 5 meters scrum for the offense if you ground the ball in your try zone if the ball was already in, if your go into your try zone with the ball and then you ground it, it's a try for the other team. If the ball goes over the field through the try zone, it's a dead ball and then it depends of who put it out :) Another new rule that you need to know is that since august 2021 if you can prevent the opponent to ground the ball and mark the try, you take the ball back and make a 22m drop kik (the ball need to touch the ground before you touch it with your foot). Since august 2021, if you ground the try in your own try zone, it's a 22m drop kik too. These new rules reward good defense.
At 9:26 you can see that the french player put his finger into the eye of the waIes player, so red card even if it's not volunteer
I hope you understand what I wrote, I'm watching you from France ;)

That amazing kick was from Justin Tipuric, who plays open-side flanker. It’s rare for a forward to kick, especially as well as he does. He has all the skills to play at centre. As rugby has developed forwards are now expected to have much better ball skills than the old-school brutes did. Backs are bigger now too, so the positions are becoming more generalised.

  • @mwwoggy

5:20 - The chip n chase tactic, looks great, but you're playing the odds that the ball is going to bounce favourably when it bounces. it can either bounce well like it did in this instance, or it could shoot off in some other direction the kicker isn't expecting, making it potentially unplayable, or giving posession to the other team.
6:45 - If the Welshman can get the ball away from the Frenchman legally, and place downward pressure on the ball, it's a try. But if the Frenchman gets tackled and he dots the ball down himself, it goes for a 22m drop kick (by France). However, there's 1 thing that can also happen - if the French carry the ball over their own try line and then dot it down, it'll be a scrum at 5m to Wales, as you can only dot the ball down in your own try area if the ball came off the opposition
9:30 - The French are now down to 14 men for the rest of the match, but they can send someone in as a replacement if the person who was sent off is in a vital position (like Hooker - #2, or pretty much any of the forwards, as they're needed for scrums and other set-pieces). But they're still only allowed a maximum of 14 players, and the one sent off for a red card, is not allowed back on, and most likely (depending on the tournament) will receive a 1 match ban as well. Yellow cards, you're off the field for 10 mins of playtime (stoppage time not included). If the game has less than 10 minutes to go, they just go straight to the changing rooms.
Also, as a side-note: Wales tend to scramble like crazy when they lose 1 man, never mind 2, so they start making unforced errors, and this gave France the way in. If it wasn't for that penalty with 3 a minute or so to play, they would have gone on to win.

    "What would happen if..."
It depends, who put the ball in goal.
If the attacking team puts the ball in-goal and it is grounded or made dead by the defenders it is like a football "safety" but there are no points awarded. The defending team is allowed to drop kick the ball across the 22. The attacking (field position) team can stand at the 22 and without crossing it attempt to block the kick. Usually the kickers stand back when they kick.
If the defending team puts the ball into their own goal and it becomes dead the attacking team is awarded a scrum 5M from goal inline where the ball became dead.
The TMO's decision here is based upon what the ref asks. Say the ref believes a try was scored (like here) he ask, "Is there any reason I cannot award a try?" In this case the TMO needs clear proof the ref was wrong.
    The Red Card
You cannot intentionally go off your feet in the vicinity of a ruck. Especially when you bury the ball.
    You're watching highlights.
You have no idea, other than scoring, what play has been like. I don't remember but, if France had been penalized for this often, had been warned to STOP doing it, yet here they are doing it again, what's a ref to do?

Hello buddy, Ive been really impressed with your enthusiasm for the game and really enjoyed your reactions. I would suggest maybe looking into some of the rules surrounding the break down (when a tackle has been made). I think it would help with understanding a lot of the penalties which are extremely important in rugby. Also look into the terminology i.e. the difference between a ruck, maul and scrum as the distinction is crucial in union and you misname the forms of contact quite often. Perhaps make a video explaining this. Anyway, keep up the good work!!! I will look forward to your next upload.

To answer your question if a player is tackled behind his own try line what happens? It depends if the team with the ball take the ball behind their own try line and is then tackled then it is a scrum 5 meters out to the other team but if say the other team kicks the ball behind their try line and is tackled that would then be a 22 drop out for the team with the ball but this would rarely happen because they team that collected the kick would usually just tap the ball down on their own try line which out give them the 22 drop out anyway without getting tackled

Those extended highlights are better so you can get more gameplay/tactics. You should try and watch one of the full games in the Autumn nations between the big teams. Also, you might already know this but just in case: you have a choice of what to do in a penalty. You can kick from the tee for 3 points or you can kick for the touchline out of hand and you get the ball back because it’s a penalty so are able to advance down the pitch. (You can also opt for a scrum or tap the ball and just start running although most the time this isn’t as beneficial as the other two.

If you ground the ball behind your own goal line, the rule up until this year had always been that the other team would get an attacking scrum 5 meters out (ie they get to put the ball into the scrum) which is a very good attacking position, good chance to score off it.
This year, however, they've changed that rule (it's experimental mind you, so it may revert back next year). The new rule is what's called a line drop out. It's actually what they do in League, so rugby has essentially borrowed it from league. Very simple - if you ground the ball in your own in-goal area, you must drop kick it from your goal line, under the posts. The kick needs to go 10 meters at least (I think - can't actually remember the exact distance.... it's kinda irrelevant, teams just kick it as far as they can).

    • @Youre
      @Youre 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Also, I notice you referring to rucks as scrums. Important to distinguish the 2. A ruck is what happens when a player is tackled and there are bodies on the ground. Every time a player is tackled, basically, a ruck is formed. These are not scrums. A scrum is a set piece, like a line out. A scrum happens after a knock on or forward pass. A scrum involves all 8 forwards from each team essentially crashing into each other at the ref's command. Then one team puts the ball into the middle for their hooker to hook back on their side.
      Hope that made sense.

I think this would be useful to watch in your own time: th-cam.com/video/2TLdgmjhV_Y/w-d-xo.html. It explains the kicking rules quite nicely. Obviously it’s important to note on a Penalty you can kick it straight out from anywhere and you get the ball back.

France got the bonus point for scoring 4 tries, but Wales got a losing bonus point by being within 7 points of France's score. In the end that Wales BP put pressure on France to win their last game by a huge margin rather than France simply having to just win.

If you're looking for a full match from a time when rugby was an amateur sport, here is the 1975 test between Scotland and the All Blacks, also known as the 'Submarine Test." Surely one of the wettest tests ever played. th-cam.com/video/bVQTczeM4WA/w-d-xo.html You'll find the rules somewhat different; the scrums pack down incredibly quickly compared to today, for instance.

Hi Blake, I'm glad you enjoyed this game… it was a great game. I highly recommend you watch the one that was payed just a month ago between France and New Zealand (link below). This match is even more impressive in intensity, speed, and beauty. The best rugby match of all 2021 !
    Enjoy!

One of the better games if not the best game of the tournament.
Not sure if you do whole games. But the Japan Vs South Africa game 2015 is I suppose THE game to watch.

It's with English commentary even though the text of the title is Mostly Japanese.
    Cheers

Great match but a pity that so many of the tries were just short range pick and drive from a yard out. There's too many tries of this sort being scored these days.

Yeah funny old game this was. If i can remember there was a bit of frustration with this game as we (Wales) were playing this for a Grandslam. But questions were asked with France as they broke lockdown rules meaning they couldn't play Scotland, so it got postponed meaning France had played one less game and actually had a massive recovery time over Wales. So Wales were playing their 5th and last game but France were only playing their 4th. The France v Scotland game was played later in the month after all other games had been played.

The French are very unpredictable and you never know which French side pitches up on match day. They can beat you by 20 points or they can lose by 20 points, it really is a coin flip with them.

      Scary thought.

We lost 2 world cup finals, because we were not enough disciplined in defense, but, France was always the team who did the beautiful tries😂✌️Now, we are good in attack, and defense, and the World cup is in France in September 😂Watch it, we will win this time😂✌️Peace from France bro 👍
