The Sheriff's advice for Home Defense
So glad you are doing well. I myself went through surgeries for kyphois curvature of the spine. Have you had a chance to shoot your marlin 1894? I was just wondering how you like it now. 🇺🇸
@mikebailey2119 i haven't done much shooting at all. Had to get back to work and catch up on 4 weeks of being down. Of course now it's pretty cold, and one thing I've found - the hardware they put in lets me know when it's cold or rain is eminent.......LOL
Good review. I want one!
I have put 600 rounds through mine and have had zero malfunctions. Best gun I ever bought. The price was great too
Thank you for stating 'Civilian Law Enforcement Officers'. I have seen WAY too many in LE both believe and act like they are military.
I’ve carried into several banks in TX as many DONT have signs anymore and never had a problem. For the most part.. I’d been there some and I’m gonna assume they recognized me, but still might be a good idea to ask first. There are laws about what signage is legal and what is not, Walmart is one in particular that can’t seem to post legal signage in plain sight… Therefore, I have carried in there every time I’ve been there and if they want to challenge it… good luck. You would think they could read state law.

Sheriff, been missing your videos. I hope all is well with you TH-cam friend?
How big is your house to see 75 feet?
@@irockuroll60 75' x 25'. Like 1800ish sq ft........
Good review. I just picked up the same model a couple weeks ago and absolutely love it! Now, onto finding a 4570 trapper for the collection! So glad ruger took these on and bring quality back to the marlin name
Nice rifle ugly video.
Every shell has a lawyer attached to it. If it goes down, anyway you look at its going to be a legal S--show!
Sorry but is this reverse video? cause mine opens left as I hold it. just wondering. oh it is just noticed that the wording in your shirt is backwards as well, Got Me !!!!!! LOL
I live alone upstate NY in a 2500 sq ft cabin, nothing but slugs loaded in my 3 shotguns for Home defence
Thanks to expensive cataract surgery, I don't need the glasses. Suppressed .45 with night sights and light on the night stand. Electronic ears on the bed post. Shotgun in the corner. No kids or dogs in the house anymore. Nothing the man says is wrong. He did leave out shotgun fit. A shotgun should come to point of aim when you mount it. If not, it doesn't fit properly. He's got a much bigger house than I do. The longest possible shot in my house is 32 feet. Most likely shot at half that. My shotgun puts all 9 00 buck pellets in a man size target at 25 yards. At 15 feet, you still need a precise shot. Yeah, you can miss with a shotgun. That said, there is nothing more devastating than a shotgun up close and personal. My M&P .45 holds 11 rounds of 230 grain ammo. I can empty it in just under 7 seconds on target. The shotgun gives me 9 in less than a second with 3 more behind it. Like him, I don't keep one in the chamber. It's just got a trigger block safety. Hopefully, the alarm system will change the invaders' minds. If not, we'll play the hand we're dealt.
Its not which cal. is better , but which cal. is better for you.
I bought my first 32 s&w long about 3 years ago. She was a Smith & Wesson model 32 hand ejector with a 3" barrel. It was in kinda rough shape, but locked up tight with no timing issues or cylinder end shake. I cleaned her up and discovered that she is the most accurate revolver I own. I carried it daily until I bought my second one. The second one was a Smith & Wesson 31-1 with a 2" barrel. The larger J frame grip is much easier to shoot accurately. I am a retired Deputy Sheriff and taught firearms classes to everything from standard patrol, SRT, and my favorite, the free to the public, women's self defense gun classes. I had to retire due to on the job injuries. I had to have several bones removed from my right wrist along with heavy nerve damage. I can no longer handle heavy recoil with my right hand. I had taught myself to shoot left handed decades ago, but I am still better right handed. I love my 32 S&W longs. Just know their limits and recognize where your target areas become. Great video Sheriff!
I would leave the chamber empty also when stored but when I unload. I let it cycle onto the elevator(never into the chamber) and then turn the gun sideways to let it fall out of the port. Will doing it this way from now on!
I'm begging criminals to come around .
Trench gun for home defence is beyond absurd. Storming a building with one maybe.
Good one Sheriff, God bless you
Nobody cares about your voice or your cold. Please get to the point.
If Bots had Diks, you would be one.
I went with the Mossberg Bantam 20 gauge 500C youth... it has a shorter length of pull than my 12 GA 500.. for me my wife and kids. i practice with both 2 3/4" and 3 inch shells keep it loaded with 3" inch #1 buck same as a 2 3/4 inch 12 gauge. got the 18.5 inch security barrel,22 deer barrel and 26 ribbed barrel for trap shooting very nice all around gun.I sleep very well with it next to the bed cruiser ready.
I have doubts that you are an actual sheriff.
@@shyamlynn243 LOL...... Google is your friend........
Thank you. This video has been quite helpful. I've been thinking about getting a Taurus 327 and after watching your videos I'm sold...
Perfect review, puts the others to shame, he's familiar with levers, he talks about the nearest competitor, the rossi, he mentions the rossi's sharp edges when loading, bottom line, he knows his stuff, useful, practical info, exactly what I was looking for!
Thanks for the update, nursing back issues myself, awaiting an appointment with a neurosurgeon. Glad that you are haveing a great outcome.
I have decided to say with the term firearm, but then ATF folks do not ask me for what the correct definitions would be.
What everyone who DOESN'T own and shoot a lever says is the first loaded round being ejected is actually being chambered from the tube. Tell me you don't own a lever gun without telling me you don't own a lever gun. Or again, SLOW the video down and then count and listen to the shots. We are truly a country full of ADHD dummies.
To all of the retards saying he ejected a round and only shot 7, get your vision and hearing checked. Or better, slow down the video and PAY ATTENTION. He loads 8, and shoots 8. Guntards....
My Taurus .327 has became my EDC. Great update! Thank you!
I'm wondering whether the sheriff would choose the 44 magnum Marlin lever action rifle if the primary use is deer hunting. I would like to have the 357 magnum for target shooting, but won't likely buy one of each. My state only allows pistol caliber rifles for deer hunting on public land, probably due to the flatter terrain.
@Robert_Sparkman_05 I've shot piles of deer with 357M out to 100 yards. All have fallen. 357M really shines from a longer barrel. A 158gr slug moving at 1600fps is plenty for deer. IMO, You gain nothing from 44M other than more recoil, a heavier slug, and more expensive ammo.
@@SheriffMattOller Thanks, I think I will buy it for my next birthday. I have a lot of 38/357 ammo and no gun to shoot it through since I sold a revolver that I didn't like. :) Thanks for your service in law enforcement. The vast majority of Americans like and respect law enforcement officers and are thankful for their presence.
@@SheriffMattOller By the way, your comment about a 357 lever action being superior to a shotgun for home defense is an interesting thought. Another gun I was going to add would be the Mossberg 590A1. I might deprioritize that in favor of the 357 lever action.
I’m wondering, given your job, how often you have seen the results of shotgun vs pistol in actual situations?
@@LDRester a few. Within reasonable ranges, shotguns loaded with buckshot are devastating.
THANKYOU SHERIFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have heard that the mag tube spring can be shortened a little to make loading easier. Do you know anything about this modification?
@@upanchor i don't
Shotgun 12gauge , 000 buck round is best home defense I've lived by that for 50 years , no aiming required , it scatters , just point shoot
😂your a sheriff, and you don't count your shots,😂🤣😂🤣😂
2A is for protection from brainwashed badge wearing, order followers.
Orvis sells a spreader load, where the pellets are like mini hockey pucks. Just point north, south, east, or west, and you will hit everything in a 90 degree radius. I alternate them with #1 being a spreader load birdshot load, followed by #04 buckshot, followed by flamethrower loads. That first round load ends most problems.
Don't under estimate Taurus revolvers, they are great underrated revolvers. I've had 4 of them, 3 90's models I gave as gifts to family members and 1 605 I kept for myself. They are every bit as good as my S&W revolvers. The 90's models I gave to family members are still their every day carries and still run great with never any issues. My 605 has 1k rounds thru it and runs flawless. Next on my list is that one u have there and it will be in stainless. Thanks for sharing.
I have owned several Taurus revolvers starting in 1986 … probably a dozen over the years I own three at this time , a 856 UL 38spl , 731 UL 32 H&R & 85 NV I have found Taurus is knocking it out of the park with their handguns Im waiting on Taurus to come out with a 327 with a 3 inch barrel with a hammer .. at this time they only produce a 3 in h model with a bobbed hammer ..
Yep. 12 ga Mossberg 590. 6 in the tube and one in the pipe. “Cruiser Ready” No children to worry about in my house. The wife is handy with it, also. It will cause a mess but better than the alternative. A bucket and mop, Dry wall, spackle and paint isn’t expensive.
I have both Henri's and Rossi's, the Rossi fires those 38's no problem, the Henri however is picky with 38's, some brands no problem, some not so much. I'm sure you are aware how forceful the Rossi ejects casing, the Henri doesn't and that could be one of the reasons those shorter casing are having a harder time cycling?
inside a house, birdshot will get the job done very effectively.
Great job Sheriff. Thank you for your service
I got the maverick 88 specifically for home defense. Would you suggest bird or buckshot? I know nobody is going to suggest slugs lol
@@illygotbeats #4 Buckshot
@SheriffMattOller ty sir!
