    Great Idea for long term survival situations, but I’d just throw 300 rounds in my bag!😂 the weight would probably be the same. If you have other calibers with the dies then I would definitely use your method.😊

    Get a canteen and cooking cup along with a Lifestraw and you got water covered. You filter and boil/purify water and when fire is not available use the Lifestraw. Forget the bottled water that will be gone quickly. A cutting edge like a knife with sharpener for cutting tasks, cordage like 550 paracord to tie things, fleece and hooded rain jacket and a tarp for shelter, gloves, skeeter netting/bug repellent, first aid kit and meds for medical, a lighter and ferrocerium rod or a magnesium bar for fire, a compass for navigation, a basic hook and line fishing kit and snare wire, a bandana, a foldable saw or machete for wood cutting. Some snacks and cash. If possible a survival firearm like a Henry AR7 for small game and defense. These are good items to have in a bag to make tasks easier although skills that must be learned are more important. Learned skills are more important than gear and lighter to carry. Know the threes of survival. Three minutes without air, three hours without shelter, three days without water, three weeks without food. There are only two most dangerous things in the wilderness to be mindful of that can kill you. First is other human beings and second is biting disease carrying insects. Most wild animals will avoid human beings unless cornered or defending young or territory. Forget zombies. If you are in the wilderness trying to survive you got bigger problems. Thanks for sharing.

    My bug out situation would involve A 22 lr caliber, rifle and pistol and ability to carry numerous rounds, and can use it for close up and long range,survival first, but can be excellent for CQB and defense, a hatchet, pocket chainsaw, and you can always improvise, and take the weapons and ammo and essential items from your adversary, improvise and upgrade has you go, not everyone will have the same thing
    But maybe other options and things, but my options for me are my CZ 52 ,my 22lr and 9mm pistol and carbine,and 357 sig, , and maybe a 10 mm in areas of large dangerous animals,but you can upgrade as you go, fishing gear, a pocket and a hunting knife, magnifying 🔍 glass ,matches,, lighter, a couple of flashlights and batteries,a signal mirror, etc etc etc, some people will be in the same situation, and can work as a team and everyone will have certain skills that can be beneficial to others, some might have shot gun or a bolt action rifle that can be useful in certain situations, medical, military and law enforcement people can contribute for certain resources and advice, depending on the situation and type of disorder and chaos,, or emergency ?

    Good video and great advice. I do have the Lee Loaders, but also, an overlooked option is black powder. I make my own black powder, as well as percussion cap. Molding lead balls is easy as pie and pure soft lead is pretty cheap. I live in Texas, so I do not have to worry about going to prison for making my own black powder. Of course, common sense is important.

    Thanks for the advice Sheriff, I'm taking it now! I carry myself, a carbine 9mm rifle and my handgun, is also a 9mm Luger, same as my rifle, same idea as you have, chambered both the same, I dont have to carry additional ammo. I never about the Lee reloading manual kit, I am TOTALLY going to get the kit for sure now, I've always wanted to learn to reload my own anyways, I just can't afford the high dollar big setup, most have at home to reload 1000s of rounds in a jiffy, but hand loading, I could do it totally :D. I live here in Kansas, not far from ya, I'm northwest of Wichita in Hutchinson, small city where I live. Wish I was out in the country, especially during these crazy times. Found your channel a month ago, love it!

    I hope the You Tube schills don't give your account for showing how to manufacture ammo. Very informative though. I have several of these little Lee loaders I found them in a gunstore and the sign said 20.00 on them. I bought one of the caliber I was looking for and the gun shop owner told me the 20 bucks was for all of them. I got 10 of these in various calibers, some of which I needed some I can use for barte.

    Great video Sheriff,
    I started out using Lee Classic Loaders. One problem I ran into is it wasn't putting enough of a crimp on my bullets. So when I put the cartridges in the tube magazine of my stainless steel Rossi 92 .357mag. rifle, it would push my bullets down into the case, the crimp wasn't strong enough.
    I now use a Lee Hand-press, with RCBS carbide dies, Hornady locking rings, and a Lee factory .38spl./.357mag. crimp die.
    I still use my Lee Classic Loaders once and a while for my revolvers (just for target practice), but I always use my hand-press when loading cartridges for my rifles and revolvers when I want to use them in both firearms.
    All of my reloading gear is protable. I can grab it all quick, throw it in a box, and run out the door with it if need be.
    Thanks for sharing your video with us.

    I recently bought a 310 tong tool for 44 mag and it comes with a bullet mold. A field load shotgun shell holds enough powder for at least 2 44 mag loads and there is enough shot for two cast 44 mag slugs.. Also I have been playing around with primers. I have decapped rounds and re used the primers. All shotgun powders are great for handgun loads. if you run into a box or so of ammo that is of no use to you? pop out the primers and use the powder.

    This would be ideal for my go to set up, 44 mag. S&W 6" mdl. 629 and my 44mag. Winchester 94....... Gonna have to check into getting a set up like this. Because if the SHTF does happen, ammo is gonna be hard to find, no online or store front buying in that instance.

    Dang sheriff, you are making me feel older than dirt, didn't know Lee still made a loader, I first started using one of these, in1972 as a young Marine, use to set in the barracks loading ammo for a smith and Wesson mdl 19 had to keep the gun in the armory and check it out on long weekends to go shoot, they never said a word aboutk

    Personally, I don't use the Lee system, I've used the now discounted Lyman 310 tong tool system for field loading. Having numerous calibers, when away from the bench system, the 310 is a great method of loading loading ammo in a mobile situation.

    Good job Matt, I haven’t seen one of those loaders in years told someone about it and they freaked out. The only thing in I can’t figure out is 3000rds out of 1lb of powder? That’s say 2.33grs of powder for a lb of powder and 4.5grs is the low data for a 38spl with lead bullets… I could see 1500+ rds for a pound of powder. But at 751fps that’s slow. Titegroup would get you more than 2000rds and faster fps cost less in most places and can work in both most handguns. Thanks for the post was just scratching my head when you said 3000rds.

    Can the .357 lee loader also do .38 special?

    • @SheriffMattOller
      @SheriffMattOller  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm honestly not sure, but I would think so as the sizing body would take the shorter casing. That may be something to research.

    • @johnndavis7647
      @johnndavis7647 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You could use the 38 for the 357 if you made a spacer to go over the 357 brass to get the crimping groove in the right spot .
      Or you could have both die bodies.
      They don't take up much space.

  • @swedeson6188

    Why not bring more ammo? Same weight but less work.

    • @SheriffMattOller
      @SheriffMattOller  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      1- weight. The weight of 1500 rounds of loaded ammo in this particular caliber would be pretty heavy. I'd rather use my carrying capacity for other important things.
      2- bulk. I can carry the components to load 1500 rounds in a much smaller space given the fact I'm not carrying 1500 pieces of brass. I'm using the 100 os so pieces of brass I brought over and over again, thereby decreasing weight and bulk significantly.
      3- it teaches a lesson - when your trying to survive day to day, everything has value, including your used brass, and it's wise to make good use of it.
      The list goes on, but these are my top 3 reasons.
