    Wishing you as speedy a recovery as possible. I once went 6 weeks without sleep that was not surgically related but I don't ever want to go there again.

      Sketchers has some shoes that you can put on "hands free". That might help. I've found them to be very comfortable.

    Aloha Sheriff Matt. You’re looking great. I’m 52 years old, I had posterior S1 L5 L4 fusion back onJanuary 12th. I know exactly what you are talking about. The pain you describe, the feelings you have, your whole experience. I do have something different however. When I woke up from surgery, I noticed my right leg was completely numb from below the knee. I only have feeling in my heel and big toe. I have real bad pain on the bottom of my foot, with any pressure at all, even just having socks on hurts, and the pain increases with pressure and gets worse with movement. Learning to walk again has been rough, I just started driving again recently. When they installed my titanium hardware a nerve must have been disturbed or damaged. I have movement but no feeling, like when you go to the dentist to have a tooth pulled, that kind of numbness, except permanent. 6 months later, im still on that roller coaster. I’m glad you were able to walk so soon. It’s such a relief to not have that shocking nerve pain 24/7, my life was miserable for a long while. Anyway… it’s 0330hrs here in Hawaii, this is getting long, I can go on and on. I have lots of experiences to share but don’t want to write a novel here in your comment section. Wishing you and your friend Tracy a speedy and successful recovery. Aloha 🤙🏽

      @EeZ3-808 man...... I'm sorry you're going thru that.
      I had a neuro monitoring doctor in the OR for my surgery. They put needles in my nerves down my legs and monitored any electrical activity in those nerves while they were placing hardware so no nerves would get touched.
      I feel pretty fortunate that mine has gone well (I think).
      Stay strong!

      @@SheriffMattOller I had the same type of neuro specialist and probes during my surgery as well. In my case my main nerve at L5 S1 was encased in scar tissue from a previous unsuccessful surgery. So the nerve needed to be separated and scar tissue removed. I knew the risks going in. All in all I still consider the surgery a success, I no longer have that life debilitating nerve pain shooting down through my butt and down my legs.. you know the pain I speak of. If this is how I will have to be the rest of my life, I’ll take it. I’m in much better shape now than before surgery. Thanks again for sharing your story and experience. It helps to know you are not the only person who is going through this journey. Aloha 🤙🏽

      @@EeZ3-808 I'm happy you think it's a win! There's nothing on earth as bad as the fire shooting down your butt and legs. It's a calculated risk.

      @@SheriffMattOller exactly! I couldn’t agree with you more. I’ve described it in the past, it’s like a red hot ice pick twisting and turning way down deep in the side of your butt 24/7. Keep up the great work and content you put out. I appreciate your efforts, and always look forward to your newly uploaded videos. Come visit the Big Island of Hawaii sometime, I’d be happy to show you around. All the cool places and experiences that tourists don’t get to see. Aloha 🤙🏽

    I’ve been pushing this same surgery off as long as I can. I’m a retired 57 y/o firefighter. This information about your experience and description of the aftermath of the surgery is very enlightening. I hope your recovery speeds up dramatically in the near future and you can get back to life pain free. I am taking note of all your suggestions in preparation. Thank you for the videos and keep them coming. I may be dumb enough to play with fire, but pain of surgery and the recovery scares the piss out of me. Take care and thank god for a supportive and loving wife by your side. Spouses of first responders NEVER get the credit they so rightly deserve.My wife is my rock and has supported me through the toughest times and kept me going.

      @jeffhaisch551 man........
      Without my wife, I'd be a shell of the human that I am today.
      She absolutely bears the brunt of my rough days, rough mindset, and was pretty much a single parent to 4 kids while I focused on my career.
      I wake up EVERY SINGLE DAY surprised she's still here.
      She's a much bigger person and hero than I'll ever hope to be.

    We all know hw much you've been through, but to us you are still inspirational. My wife went through a knee procedure and later rotator cuff surgery, and both were terrible, but worth it! Instead of the pain getting worse every day, it begins to lessen every day. god bless your wife for caring for you through all of this. And you being a few days ahead of Tracey gives him a surgery buddy to help him along. Keep posting videos and letting us know what the suck factor is.

    Praying for you man. Like I said before, I've had the same surgery a couple of years ago, so I feel for you. One thing I didn't mention I don't think, that you're going to get this winter, is the thing about hardware being sensitive to temperature and pressure that you always heard people talk about, is absolutely real. You will feel a front coming through long before the weatherman says anything 😅. That is extra special.

    • @SheriffMattOller
      @SheriffMattOller  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@BlueRidgeCritter I've wondered about that aspect.
      I suspect super cold weather will be a treat......

    • @BlueRidgeCritter
      @BlueRidgeCritter 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SheriffMattOllersurprisingly, not really, at least not for me. It's not so much the extremes in temperature, it's the changes in the weather. You'll just know when something's coming, sometimes it'll just be a deep ache, sometimes you'll feel every individual screw head. What was interesting for me, was that my neuro confirmed it as being true even though nobody can really explain it. I think it has to do with pressure changes and the fluids not being able to move in and out quick enough to keep up with it to equalize it. But like I said, there are times I can feel every single screw head, 6 sore spots on my back. And sometimes if the weather is going to be a pretty big change, it will actually give me a little bit of sciatica or set off cramps. It's controllable, just interesting. I have more than once known something was coming before it got broadcast. God bless!

    Thank you for this honest video. I had the exact surgery you had with all 3 of the same levels and today is my 26th day of recovery. Yesterday I just had to have a good cry because the constant pain just wears me down. However, it’s nice to know that it’s normal and I will get through it. I am going to try and walk more as my muscles are so stiff. I appreciate you taking the time to make this video.

    • @SheriffMattOller
      @SheriffMattOller  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @nsansoni22 hang tight. It'll improve, but it'll be SLOW.
      As I've improved, I've also had new aches and pains. Now my feet and L leg feel "sunburned".
      As far as tight muscles, mine are like banjo strings. You have to remember, they added height that you're not used to, and everything below that is being stretched and needs time to acclimate.
      I have cried, cussed, slammed, you name it. It's frustrating, and will likely take MONTHS for everything to resolve.
      Hang tough!
