$250 for an all steel revolver is an amazing price nowadays. If the timing is correct and it is reasonably accurate, it is a great value. Good home defense gun for someone who finds a semi-auto pistol too complex.
I recently purchased a Taurus 327 in 327 Fed Mag. Love it thus far. My son has the 605 in 357Mag and he enjoys it a great deal. It's typically his EDC.
Ok, the HiPoint: ahem. self-depreciation understood, and self-respect willingly momentarily compromised...my wife and I each had one. She had a C9, I have the JHP 45. Yes, it was 15 years ago, yes they served a need at the time, and yes, we still own the things "in the back of the safe", so to speak. But I will be honest - out of probably five hundred 45 rounds, and probably the same through the 9...we had exactly one malfunction, a squib in the c9 that puked all over the innards of the thing. Not the guns fault at all. But I have to be honest, the things run. Ugly? Yes. Do we own far better guns now? Absolutely. Would I ever want to be seen in public with it? Heck no. But they do run, and are reasonably accurate. And...if push ever came to shove, shtf, etc - I have every confidence that both would serve to put a bullet down range to the intended target. There is a good reason we still own them, and it ain't for bragging rights 🤷🏻♂️
I can tell you how to fit it in a jiffy. my model 200 I bought new had lights strikes but still setting primers off. I knew down the road if shot enough it would start doing like that 206. main spring weak. I took off grips and checked and I could easily take the spring out. so I went to lowes hardware with spring and bar ,found small washers that would work.put in three or four washers .hammer hitting harder . I might add a few more washers and it does make trigger pull more. my mod 200 came dead center with my reloads at 18 yds . shot it up to 50 yds and can easily keep in vital area if I do my part . I could have sent it back to factory but knowing the problem and how to fix it I choose not to. all my firearms must work flawless with no exceptions as my family's lives demand it.papa wishing you well. 😊
I've had to do that with every budget imported revolver I've ever owned. If his revolver is a Colt copy, they use a leaf spring, & washers wouldn't help. The thing to do I suppose, would be to look up a parts list before purchasing one. If it's been modified to use a coil spring, at least it can be boosted. Now I know why it has a "pretty good" trigger pull.

Also, it’s interesting to know that even someone who trains with a gun a lot can have unexpected things happen…… That is why training and proving reliability of a gun you carry is SO important……. who would have ever thought that even a cheap revolver would have light strikes from the hammer…… it is crazy that that hammer in double action releases from an almost half cocked position?!
Yeah. I was surprised, but better to find out on the range in training than when you're in a situation when the last thing you hear is a "click"..........
in my area Smith 36 chief special ( J frame ) shooters go for about 300-350...had one but a 5 rd 38 special against today's criminals is under gunned.. A gun I wished I kept was a Rossi 6 rd 357 3 inch barrel about ruger SP101 size frame.....Had a drop fire recall and I went for it ... Deep regret .. that gun had power , accuracy and a great trigger..
This was an interesting exercise on a number of fronts. First, using hand loads in a real life defense situation wouldn't be the case. Police would only use factory ammunition approved for service. Of course, much less expensive to practice with hand loads . Best I feel that practice represent real life so full power factory is in my view superior. Second, the old saying, 'You get what you pay for.' The cheap revolver had problems which in a defensive situation may prove fatal. The second target was at the upper range for a defensive engagement. The risk of stray rounds obvious when examining the targets.
it's papa again. on the subject of hi point pistols I have two in my collection. the 45acp and c9. both work flawlessly. in fact in testing I use star line 45super brass ,185gr xtp 1156 fps and gt bullets 255gr wide mouth deep hp at 935-957 fps , 250 gr xtp same speed and they all work flawlessly. I called the factory and talked to a technician about maximum chamber pressure because I was reloading 450smc old factory data and he said it would handle the pressure but only shoot limited amounts of this ammunition as constant shooting would ware out slide. I did load 185gr xtp bullets 1300-1350 fps but the action cycles so fast and a weak magazine spring it sometimes missed picking up rounds. so.1150 _1200 fps it works flawlessly and accurately fist size at 20 yds .awesome expansion. I recommend watching Iraq vet 8888 and see what they finally did to blow up the hi point c9 . no semi auto pistols I know of could have lasted as long as the c9. papa wishing you well. 😊
Thx! They're ugly, and get a bad rep, but that one has run like a sewing machine. One of my favorite carbines to just play around with is my Hi-point 995. No clue the round count, but it eats everything, is boring accurate to 75 yards, and has never been cleaned. It's the ugliest, but most solid semi- auto, cheap carbine on the planet in my opinion.
was that RIA bought used? wonder if someone put a spring kit in there. I don't know much about RIAs or their reputation, though. Does remind me of a review I read on Gunblast of the Charter Arms "THE PROFESSIONAL" model in .357 magnum. Charter gave that particular model a shorter DA stroke to improve trigger feel and what do you know, it was occasionally light striking in DA and perfectly functional in SA.

If you are wanting a good budget revolver, I recommend Taurus - 856 or 605, etc. = mine have been great.

I believe the mainspring needs attention. It even looked like the hammer was falling slow without much force in the demonstration.

Hammer distance/travel should be the same whether double or single action. I don't like one being shorter than the other. Good drills. I like them.
