When I was a Leo back in the late 70s and 80s we started out with dump pouches. Learned how to load two at a time when speed loaders came out we thought we were in heaven still have that handgun I started with Smith and Wesson model 19 K frame stay safe sheriff.

You started two years after me, but I’m still of the opinion that nothing beats a revolver. Thanks for the video sheriff.

This is such a good video on efficient revolver reloading. You need more views on it. If I could give you more likes and shares I would. Thanks again.

Younger guy here, been carrying a revolver 80% of the time for 20 years. Typically I carry a Colt or S&W 4 inch service revolver but I do carry Colt D frame snub Detective Special until I gave it to my wife. I enjoy working with and practicing with speedloaders both HKS and Safariland (the latter typically performs better in my experience) and carry 2-4 speedloaders at all times when carrying a revolver.
(Yes I like semiautos too, a 1911 and commercial M9 Beretta, but I typically prefer the simplicity of a revolver).
    Great video on speedloaders

686 was my service revolver; I also used hks speedloaders. I usually use NY reload

That's the way I learned back in the 1980s. Very effective. Thanks

Very shootable in a high stress situation. Best bet for many people but sadly overlooked.

People think self defense shootings will be like a movie gun fight. You can sit on a Saturday and watch 12 hrs of self defense shootings and realize you don’t need half the things they market.

@mreverythingmagnum That is why they are out of touch with the reality of a five second gunfight unless they are living in gangland and have a 15 to 30 second gunfight where they might have to reload.

Went through BLET in 1992 and carried my S&W model 66 about like you did before transitioning to a Glock 21. Currently carrying Shadow Systems 9mm. For revolver speed loaders I like the Safariland
    Comp. style.

I watched this one with interest since I started my LEO career using revolvers. I practiced hours using dummy rounds and speedloaders. We trained very hard to NOT look at the revolver while reloading, trying to concentrate on the target down range. While you were demonstrating I was yelling at the screen, "Don't look down!!!! Watch the target!!!" Old habits die hard. Thinking about that I broke out my own gear and tried to recreate my skills from the 90s... Oops... Seems that I too have fallen out of practice... LOL I still carry a 3" 357 (shot) with HKS speedloaders occasionally so now it's time for more practice. BTW I really liked your weak hand technique; as a rightie I struggled to teach lefties how to use revolvers. I applaud your staying in training with revolvers in this "auto" day and age.

Revolvers are more reliable than autoloaders. I am in category A since I shoot autoloaders well but I shoot revolvers better. The big gripe is always revolver capacity but in the reality of a five second gunfight no one will get through the first mag or cylinder let alone have the time to reload. They have lost touch with reality. Yes there is the less than one percent chance of multiple attackers or a longer gunfight and I don't stake my life on averages so I do carry reloads. My first pistol was a USGI 1911A1 .45ACP and my second pistol was a five shot .38Spl. J frame as a backup. I still shoot and carry both autoloaders and revolvers. I have three sisters that all have revolvers and will not touch an autoloader unless I put one of mine in their hands and they will still gripe about it. Haha. Thanks for sharing the wheel love.
BTW, I don't shift the revolver when I reload it since I am sort of ambidextrous. Yes ambidextrous folks are weird like that. If I was not then I would most likely use the standard method you showed. I use my support hand to reload whether right side or left side whether autoloader or revolver. The pistol never leaves my shooting hand and yes I was first taught to shoot with one hand before using a support hand for the second point of contact. Reloading a revolver takes lots of practice like anything else so that when under stress its less likely to cause a problem. I have speed loaders but most are not practical since they don't lay flat in the pocket so I use Bianchi speed strips and it takes even more practice to proficiently reload with a speed strip.... under stress. The newer Zeta 6 K PAKs are a nice alternative that lays flat but loads three at a time. I may try some of those. I agree, shooting revolvers and reloading them is like riding a bike.

Very impressive revolver, except looks like it has the S&W trigger lock… wish they would leave that “feature” out. Thanks for leaving in the footage of dropped rounds while doing the close up demo of speed loading. Shows that things don’t always go smoothly, and practice is definitely needed to be proficient with any weapon system. Very informative video… thanks for the sharing the real world use of these devices!

It does have the lock. Such a useless piece of garbage cluttering up a gorgeous gun.

Cut my teeth on revolvers, have 1semi auto pistol, a Glock 43x.
People say you have to have 1 revolver, l am just the opposite.
You handled that like a boss, thanks.

Great instructional video sir. Thanks, will practice by it. I carry semi-autos, but am partial to good ole revolvers like the Ruger GP 100.

The defense research shows revolvers are not the doom some say it is, Claude Werner the top defense researcher in the country has looked at incidences in defense with revolvers and can't find any more gun fights lost with a revolver then a semi auto, this means we can bring revolvers back and we still train but we know statistically revolvers are not the doom hard core semi auto guys claim it is because it's more feelings based then factual. revolver trend is coming back, even more classes every where and manufactures making 327 and 32 h/r mag, the 32 long wad cutters are like shooting a 22 lr and could be defence option for sensitive shooters to recoil . I was amazed how nice my trigger was on my poor man's 4 inch Taurus 66 357 mag 7 shot, I have a whole bag of SKS speed loaders in a long handle camera bag, it can be put around the neck from the car should you have a crazy mass shooting event, found out every one loved shooting it, the family members not into guns, being it has good weight it just adds to the ability of pulling the already nice trigger it has, no one complained with standard 357 mag loads and 38 especially with +P and standard pressure. For revolver many forget that we will be defending to get to cover especially in the context of a private citizen who doesn't have to cuff and stuff bad guy but only defend and extract themselves to safety, very rare will a threat come to your cover where you reload unless your chasing like police do and bad guy is a cornered mouse then may come at you shooting. on a 7 shot cylinder a single round reload or 2's like old school is a sinch, using thumb and index finger in the flutted part of cylinder you only need to look for 1 o clock and put in one or go 1 and 2 o clock for 2's, I did time trials against speed loader and was faster putting in a single round, the concept is if we make a mistake on getting 7 in we lose all 7 where as one we are less likely to make a mistake, the down side is one round to fight with but this also is good old school practice to simulate behind cover using a dump pouch ''andy Griffith show' barney😅and a quick round to hit bad guy if he should come to your cover, though rare. having loose rounds in pocket or vecro pellet pouch from crosman air guns on your right hip you can have a extra few rounds lose for back up in addition to a speed strip or speed loader. Look up Dan combs using a unmodified stock revolver has some amazing quick draw demonstrations using duty gun with quick draw concepts, he was fast a 3 o clock and 2 o clock position even faster but 3 o clock is because when you sit 2 o clock holster possition gets in the way unless you can slide holster between 2 and 3 o clock or move belt buckle to the right and left as I do. what's nice about revolvers is that when you use all your speed loaders in a extreme situation, loose ammo you can load, where as semi autos once magazines go empty you have to load magazine and put it in the gun, while your semi auto has to be put in your holster while you reload the magazine, the revolver with loose back up ammo can load a couple rounds at a time and keep going, this is why even if a bag of speed loaders or mags for semi auto having loose ammo your still in the fight with a revolver just simply by putting in a quick 2 rounds
