Hello Mick. New pool player, ex-snooker player, have been watching lots of the pro tourneys, nice to find some instruction videos, thanks. Yesterday evening, on a tight Chinese table whilst on holiday in Morocco, I had my first 8-ball clearance. Funny thing was, it was only afterwards I realised it was all 8. I am quite old you see! The club have it on video, which is cool, they said they will send it to me. Good luck and don't forget to rest on Sabbath day.

The 2 finest players in my opinion from the UK. I was fortunate enough to play briefly on the IPA Tour during the mid noughties and sat in the bar with Mick (I was based in Worcester at the time and I think we were playing in Coventry) listening to some banter at the Hilton. when you were talking about pressure you reminded me of a arguement i had with someone on facebook saying much more pressure now in darts because of more money.but i think in bristow and lowe era they had to win to make a living and pay the mortgage.now 16 are millionairs i think?

Am I right in thinking that the looser grip leads to a smoother and more constant speed of cue delivery, which in turn means the tip has slightly longer time in contact with the ball …? I guess if you have a tight grip you get more of a 'muscle action' which is more snatchy and tense than the kind of 'pendulum action' it feels like if you loosen the grip.

When I try this the ball always misses to the right

I think the hardest thing is knowing the angle the cue ball is going to be coming off of the object ball. The "natural" angle is fine...but knowing what that is, is the trick I think.

I’ve only got 6 cues in my house.

Rail first with a bit of spin in the same direction usually works for me. At that point speed is less of a factor.

first five minutes I was scratching my head wondering why you wouldn't do exactly what you said to do at the end.... hooray, i'm learning :P

Thanks Mick. At about 43:00 Darren talks about the difference of a UK pool/snooker stroke to a US pool stroke. I would have though the fundamentals were the same, but I don't play any of the US style games. Can you elaborate on the differences?

Technically an in-off is a cannon, its just a cannon into the pocket using the object ball instead of the white.
