Analyzing Pitt's Fit in the Big 12 | Conference Realignment
Wild ute, very nice job as always good content and down to the facts on the numbers. You got to love that, let's go mountaineers 🏈🏀⚾ and let's go to Big 12
Let’s go Big12! Promote basketball (don’t stop investing in it), build the conference brand, and invest heavy in football. Mountaineer fans such as yourself total get it, Timothy. 🔥
You've taken the liberty of projecting a doubling of b12 basketball revenue for a max annual revenue 38M per b12 team. But you didn't add that same logic to the ACC B10 or SEC annual revenue. Using your math, the B10 would have annuals of 86M per team with the SEC teams getting 83M. Assuming tht ACC is intact, the ACC teams should be 43M. Tht P2 is considerably higher than the middle 2. 86M and 83M is more than double the b12 38M projections of their hypothetical increases
Nice breakdown, and yep, didn’t add those figures into the P2 because the gap was already so wide. The point of the video is to tell fills that basketball isn’t saving the Big12. Quality football could, but it’s a long road. Wish us luck
@wildute6958 | agreed.. thanks I do hope the b12 can have a legitimate seat at the big boy table. I really do. I'm just afraid that it's all for not. The ACC has played Damn good football and has beaten the P2 tops teams consistently, 3 chips and 6 CFP appearances, but was still unofficially relegated to the tier 2 table with the B12. Of tht past 12 seasons, the ACC has been arguably tht 2nd best conference on tht field. But when push can't to shove, tht B10 and their viewership numbers was more valuable than in field performance. But we shall see
Check out the video! You’ll like it cause it shows these figures.
Correct me if I am wrong……..a good basketball only payout is $6-7m a year, a P2 payout is going to be $60-70m a year. TEN times as much. Although there are other factors in a P2 distribution, at the minimum, it appears that football is 7-8 times as valuable as basketball. So that would make the distribution roughly 85-15. Is this right? If not, why not?
Use the 80-20 rule on any media contract. The B1G basketball rights are being paid at a higher value than the Big12. That’s because of fanbase sizes and because the Big12 took a low valuation deal jump in front of and finish off the Pac12.
Great analysis but consider the following. Big12 BB assets vs BigEast BB assets & what additional BB assets the Big12 could add over the next 3 years. Also consider the international approach the Big12 is taking & how that will gain viewership & value.
Yes, agreed that Big12 basketball is worth more than Big East basketball. But, that’s already baked in the current Big12 media deal. If Big12 rights double, that’s still not a game changing amount of money. Basketball rights saving the day is a misnomer for the Big12 imo
75 football and 25 basketball in the future
Good video
Much appreciated
Some have said that the 4 corners value won’t show in this contract (due to pro rata) but should account for a bump themselves the next go around. I wonder how much of a bump they would give. Even with a 25 percent bump with basketball bump (double) your still behind a good amount To get close to the p2 we are gonna need to 3x basketball contract and double our football. 1. Kill acc (supply/demand) 2. Win specifically in football 3. Add basketball only
Ute/Mafia, the Big East just signed a media deal for basketball. You should use that deal as a reference point and calculate the Big 12's implied basketball value using available data and assumptions.
You can only gain financial advantages when they are available. You are so stuck on your equations that you alone have not come to the realzation that the Greedy 2 cn never be caught by the rest of us. Only the B1G has a chance of catching the SEC. The real Big Takeaway is pick up every gain you can find! I'll forever follow Yormarks lead and avoid any class you teach.
Focus on football instead of going on all-in on basketball. Yormark knows this-as he made this petition to the UA’s athletic department a few months ago.
Agaun, you're taking that out of context. He was looking 0:44 for the Billion dollar backing. With it it Uou are right, get Miami. Clemson, Carolina imto the Big 12, thst's the right move. But use leftover $$$ to go after baskwtball powers. .@@wildute6958
Get gains Wherever they are available!
Ex. Nameing Rights! Every little bit helps!
💯 get gains whenever possible. No problem with that. It does seem like a lot of folks are gung ho about basketball saving the Big12, but that’s not going to work. Football needs to lift in addition to the other factors you’ve mentioned.
This is the reason I think Gonzaga and UConn as even partial members doesn’t make a lot sense for the B12. You will increase hoops revenue but also travel expense.
Ifiot, they would never be full members. Gonzaga doesn"t even have a football team,! NOTE: I called him an ifiot! In UConn's case, you might give them a full share as the win multiple championships in basketball & they give the other league members at least 1 easy win in football, though I'd eliminate their football team from the equsation andbreduce their share like Zags & other non-football schools
💯 agree on the Gonzaga idea. Not enough value add.
When you break it down, any basketball adds are a tough sell.
1st 😋
Very nice 🔥
Andre Ware went to Houston
I don't know how others feel here, but I hate that these conferences are dying? There's nothing coming good from any of this in my opinion. These conferences dying is doing nothing more than giving the BIG10 & SEC more power and money! The only thing that's guaranteed is the power are one step closer to leaving everyone behind!!! Look at the big picture everyone conferences dying is not good for football at all???
ESPN is not going to end the ACC. Too much investment in ACC Network and it makes money for them. I also wouldn't be so sure FSU and Clemson have a landing spot in SEC or BIG. Who would leave the ACC for Big 12. Big downgrade.
Great show guys
You GUYS HATE KU OTHERWISE I WOULD WATCH. ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK
Please please keep picking against KU AND LANCE LEIPOLD. Records so far 2-10, 6-7(easily could have been 7-6), 9-4 and look how close his loses were ONE INTERCEPTION AND WE BEAT KSTATE! KSTATE IS ARROGANT. BUT PLEASE DONT PICK KU! RCJH
Tons of respect for all of you guys there. Thank you.
Thanks!
Great episode! Giid content guys!
Thanks!
Sorry, but after all his gaslighting during the PAC12 saga, and him looking down his nose at the XII, I have no respect for this guy.
@stary1371 I understand your frustrations . I was also extremely frustrated during the Pac12 mess. However, I came to find out my frustrations were ill-placed. Both John and Jon, IMO, were used and exploited. They can only report what they are told, and can only trust who’s telling them. There is a reason the Pac12 is dead as we knew it: the leadership was both corrupt and ill-equipped to lead. Let’s put paid to the idea that reporters drive the news
@@B12Mafia I get that Bomb3er, but Canzano claims to be a “journalist”, not the spokesman for the PAC. A true journalist would take what he is being told and also look at what is going externally to form an educated opinion. Canzano did nothing of the sort and only pushed the BS that GK was producing, and claimed anything else was disinformation by Karen from Endevor. John is now playing the victim in an effort to salvage any bit of credibility he had. Sorry, not buying.
I hear you B but to Stary's point there was never any push back or critical skepticism that I saw from Canzano regarding what he was getting fed and he even seemed to have a fan boy attitude in contrast to Wilner. Wilner was more elitist regarding the B12 but he did have some appropriate skepticism.
@@stary1371 your 100% correct I can't stand this guy or anything that flows from his mouth.
Bring him on more often. Big12 can always use more media members to support us
You got John Canzano on? Wow
Great job on this @bomb3r
Love or hate Canzano but he is well connected
Great interview Bomber 💯
Whoa 👀!
👀👀
Great video. Make sure to do a follow up episode at the end of the season to review how you did.
Ohio State better win the Natty or Day could be history
No way man this list is crazy wrong are you guys big ten fans ?
I have watched B1G football for close to 40 years. I literally remember when the Big Ten was 10 teams. I am confident in my selections. We will have @BigTenTed tomorrow night to discuss our choices as well. - Moen
What did we get wrong? Think this list is nails.
@B12Mafia WildUte, let me give you a history lesson of Wisconsin football for the last 40+ years. Dave McClain had Wisconsin in bowls on a regular basis, enough to name a practice facility after him. After McClain, they hired Don Morton. He was so bad that Camp Randall was empty on a regular basis. Then, the BOR hired Shalala, who hired Barry Alvarez(HOF coach). BA became HC/AD and hired Bert to replace him. Bert had a couple years of success and then bolted to Arkansas for $$, but he didn't do well at Arkansas. Gary Anderson was a mistake hire. Paul Chryst was a good hire but didn't see the change in offensive changes other schools made. And now, we have Fickell, which is yet to be determined.
Nebraska should have been lower Iowa and Wisconsin are both on the same level and UM should have been is the S category and I’m a Buckeye fan
I know a lot about Wisconsin history since the Barry A days. I also know that Bert is a dang good coach, so is Luke F. Wisconsin is my sleeper team this year.
Ute, Bert didn't do anything at Arkansas
Bert had a great run at Wisconsin and KSU.
Finebaum reads from "his script"... and he hates FSU
Ute, Bert took over for a CFB HOF Coach. The cupboard was full of talent.
BINGO! - Moen
@WildUte You need to remember that Finebaum works for ESPN. That should explain everything
Penn St guy here. Let me give my tiers Tier 1: OSU, UO, Michigan Tier 2: PSU, USC, Wisconsin, UW Tier 3: Iowa, MSU, Nebraska, UCLA Tier 4: Rutgers, Maryland, Minnesota, Illinois, Northwestern, Indiana, Purdue.

Do you really think Illinois > Penn St despite the last 10 visits to Columbus?
@@davidbrown386 At the Horseshoe? ..yes, yes I do....The Colesium too.... ILLINOIS 2-4-0 (.400)
Trash. Start over.
And what is your untrashy list, Briggs?
@@wildute6958 B1G in 2024. S: OSU, Oregon. A: Michigan, Iowa, PSU. B: Minnesota, Rutgers, Wisconsin, USC. C: Washington, Nebraska, Illinois, Maryland, Northwestern. D: MSU, Indiana, UCLA, Purdue.
Remember qirh Big West teams... now they will all have harder schedules... over time expect .5-1 more loses per season vs historical.
Exactly. That’s what’s going to happen.
@@wildute6958 wrong
Want proof the Big 10 West was bad? In 2022 Purdue “Won” the Big 10 West. They lost at home to Big 10 East third place team Penn St. in 2023, Big 10 West “Winner” Iowa got beat 31-0 @ Penn St.
@@davidbrown386 Check the crossover record of the divisions. The East had a higher ceiling with a lower floor and the West had a higher floor with a lower ceiling.
The fact the West was bad is why the Big 10 decided to go away from divisions, even before adding the 4 PAC schools.
Penn State is borderline
Dear Wild Ute: I suspect one day Utah will be playing my Nittany Lions in the Big 10, then we will see who is more borderline: Penn St or Utah?
Penn State is an elite program and brand. Penn State will probably get into the playoff this year. Utah would love a CFP rematch after the Rose Bowl shellacking.
Penn State = s tier ; Nebraska = f tier
This sounds like a very interesting and informative show that you are going to have. Bomber you always do great work my friend 💥🏈🏈💥🏈🏈
Great interview. Alonzo has a wealth of knowledge about the game of football
