- WildUte University: How Valuable is Basketball to the Big 12?
WildUte breaks down just how valuable #collegebasketball is to the #big12 and how it compares to #collegefootball revenue.

Some have said that the 4 corners value won’t show in this contract (due to pro rata) but should account for a bump themselves the next go around. I wonder how much of a bump they would give.
Even with a 25 percent bump with basketball bump (double) your still behind a good amount
To get close to the p2 we are gonna need to 3x basketball contract and double our football.
1. Kill acc (supply/demand)
2. Win specifically in football
3. Add basketball only
75 football and 25 basketball in the future
Great analysis but consider the following. Big12 BB assets vs BigEast BB assets & what additional BB assets the Big12 could add over the next 3 years.
Also consider the international approach the Big12 is taking & how that will gain viewership & value.
Yes, agreed that Big12 basketball is worth more than Big East basketball. But, that’s already baked in the current Big12 media deal. If Big12 rights double, that’s still not a game changing amount of money. Basketball rights saving the day is a misnomer for the Big12 imo
This is the reason I think Gonzaga and UConn as even partial members doesn’t make a lot sense for the B12. You will increase hoops revenue but also travel expense.
Ifiot, they would never be full members. Gonzaga doesn"t even have a football team,!
NOTE: I called him an ifiot!
In UConn's case, you might give them a full share as the win multiple championships in basketball & they give the other league members at least 1 easy win in football, though I'd eliminate their football team from the equsation andbreduce their share like Zags & other non-football schools
💯 agree on the Gonzaga idea. Not enough value add.
When you break it down, any basketball adds are a tough sell.
Correct me if I am wrong……..a good basketball only payout is $6-7m a year, a P2 payout is going to be $60-70m a year. TEN times as much. Although there are other factors in a P2 distribution, at the minimum, it appears that football is 7-8 times as valuable as basketball. So that would make the distribution roughly 85-15. Is this right? If not, why not?
Use the 80-20 rule on any media contract. The B1G basketball rights are being paid at a higher value than the Big12. That’s because of fanbase sizes and because the Big12 took a low valuation deal jump in front of and finish off the Pac12.
Wild ute, very nice job as always good content and down to the facts on the numbers. You got to love that, let's go mountaineers 🏈🏀⚾ and let's go to Big 12
Let’s go Big12! Promote basketball (don’t stop investing in it), build the conference brand, and invest heavy in football. Mountaineer fans such as yourself total get it, Timothy. 🔥
My good friend, your main point is valid but I think your baseline for B12 basketball worth should be the $8M per school the Big East will be getting. If that $8M is 20% of the B12 worth, you go from $31.7M to $40M. I think the B12 with the multiple TV windows and big matchups could be more towards $10M per team in MBB, which now gets you to around $50M per team in value. That isn't that far off the P2 pace. If Yormark can find a way to get back to market sooner...
Good video
Much appreciated
You've taken the liberty of projecting a doubling of b12 basketball revenue for a max annual revenue 38M per b12 team. But you didn't add that same logic to the ACC B10 or SEC annual revenue. Using your math, the B10 would have annuals of 86M per team with the SEC teams getting 83M. Assuming tht ACC is intact, the ACC teams should be 43M.
Tht P2 is considerably higher than the middle 2. 86M and 83M is more than double the b12 38M projections of their hypothetical increases
Nice breakdown, and yep, didn’t add those figures into the P2 because the gap was already so wide. The point of the video is to tell fills that basketball isn’t saving the Big12. Quality football could, but it’s a long road. Wish us luck
@wildute6958 | agreed.. thanks
I do hope the b12 can have a legitimate seat at the big boy table. I really do. I'm just afraid that it's all for not. The ACC has played Damn good football and has beaten the P2 tops teams consistently, 3 chips and 6 CFP appearances, but was still unofficially relegated to the tier 2 table with the B12.
Of tht past 12 seasons, the ACC has been arguably tht 2nd best conference on tht field. But when push can't to shove, tht B10 and their viewership numbers was more valuable than in field performance.
But we shall see
B1G and their viewership numbers are more valuable than on field performance for the ACC or Big12. 💯 Truer words have never been spoken. It’s a shame, but it’s nails.
@wildute6958 | I'm not a big12 fan. But I am rooting for 1 of their teams to shake up tht apple cart this year
1st 😋
Very nice 🔥
