Seems to me that Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee etc. fans travel to away games and spend tourism dollars much more then Pitt, BC, Miami……. If anything tourism dollars go up by switching conferences

NC doing that sounds pretty dumb to me.

People from other parts of the country have no idea of the bond between the ACC and the state of North Carolina, historically, culturally and economically. UNC was the acknowledged crown prince of the conference and remained so until FSU was admitted. As FSU is soon to depart, the old order would be restored. And a large segment of the UNC alumni are quite happy in the ACC and would oppose any talk of a move. While UNC is the flagship university of the state, its clout is very limited. NC State, Duke, Wake Forest and East Carolina are all represented in the legislature and would oppose any move and would have to approve it. And when the cost of getting out of the ACC might well be $250m, that presents real problems.
The solution may be in UNC remaining in the ACC and the state agreeing to pay them and NC State the difference between the ACC payout and a P2 payout. It quite feasible and small potatoes for a state as wealthy as NC. And UNC could return to the throne they feel entitled to. I expect this to gain momentum in the near future.

@@tomsmithdeal775How can anyone trust agreements from the State long term? Politicians and bureaucrats are professional liars.

@@tomsmithdeal775 This is the #1 reason the ACC is about to implode. The B1G has a kindred relationship with the Midwest. If the conference can grow and sustain going east, west, and south, then the ends justify the means. You're going to ask taxpayers to cover the costs of colleges making poor financial decisions?
