Well you better too have some slack on the clearance than been to tight. With heat expension the gap become short and you can burn the valve seat,,.i it is .006 and you have 7 or tight 8 it is not a big deal at least for me i would let it this way. Again ,for my experiences,a loose valve clearance is way better than to tight but been professionnal as this gntleman it is the better way! i wonder what is the duration between valve adjustment??? If its an iridium plug, you won't need to gap or adjust it. It will stay at the current gap for way way longer (iridium is 6-8x harder than platinum and has a 700 degree higher melting point) . The benefit is you don't have to take your bike halfway apart, ie remove tank, airfilter, breather hoses just to get to the dang plugs. It seems like you fail to realize why laser iridium plugs are far superior. You won't have to do all this. You change them out at 40K miles and call it day.

Yes, I still have the bike. Its currently sitting at 62,000 miles. I've been to Alaska and back on it. I'm not able to ride as much as I used to though because of the addition of children to my life. But its still a great bike with no major problems. I've not personally ridden a 6 spd, but I don't see the need for it. The 5 spd is just fine for me and very reliable. There was a recall on the 6 spds where they had to replace 2nd gear. This involved splitting the case open on nearly new bikes. So I'm glad I have the 5 spd.

Good to learn on someone else's bike. On your own bikes, use a vise with soft jaws to hold the fork. Use gravity to drain every drop of all the old contaminated crap by setting the tubes upside-down overnight. Loosen or use a plastic gadget to clean under the top wipers, then use Ultra Slick Seal Grease.
