    That was an excellent review on the FJR! I picked up a new to me 2014 (Fastest color Red Lipstick, hands down) and I have to say, this is the most shockingly competent motorcycle I have ever ridden! It still amazes me after every ride, which is saying something...I’ve ridden Bikes for close to 40 years! I may start my ride at 60 on the FJR, but at the end of the ride, I have the grin of a 20 year old!

    Also, my 2013 "A" model fjr1300, doesn't have electronic suspension. In perspective, given that I've owned eleven motorcycles, over the years, and feel confident in knowing a good handling two wheeled machine, I don' t miss electronic suspension, at all.
    I think it's extra weight, that's not needed on a 660 pound super-sport-tourer. This is the most satisfying motorcycle, I've ever owned. I bought mine with 2832 miles on the odometer, in the spring of 2013. Today, I'm nearing 39,000 miles on my bike. It's the only bike I've ever owned, that I've felt like, I'll be sad, when it wears out. I remember riding across the high desert country of New Mexico, and just feeling like the bike felt like it's a part of me. So easy to travel on. Yamaha used to have a jingle in their tv adds years ago, that went; "Yamaha.... won't you fly me away. I can relate to that.

    I own a 2013 fjr1300a, and love it. I did a 20 day multi-state trip from Atlanta, in 2016. 7835 miles. 19 states. Packed two large roll top bags, my saddle bags and my 55 liter Givi top box. Did laundry once. I camped, and had hotel stays. Carried my laptop, Bluetooth Bose for camp site entertainment. I saw Glacier National Park. The Olympic Peninsula. Nearly the entire West Coast, and the Los Angeles area. Rode through Carlsbad, and across Arizona, in the middle of the afternoon. BTW, rode through Arizona, in late August. It hit 112 degrees. My bike coolant temp, never exceeded 188 degrees. I do flush the system regularly, and I run Amsoil synthetic oil(if that has an effect). Absolutely love my Fjr1300a. I'm 6' 1" tall, and 225 lbs. Was 56 years old, at the time, also. For me it's a comfortable ride. I have a Sargent saddle. My longest day, in the seat, was from Pekin, Il. , to Rapid City, SD. The route I took, I logged 952 miles, in one day. The FJR1300, is capable. It's not an adventure bike, so forget the gravel, but it'll eat pavement. I'm ready for my next journey.

      R. W. I watched the review and it placed my decision to buy the bike as soon as I find the color I want. I hate the matte blue that is out today and is keeping me to purchase the bike. I called Yamaha corporate this morning and they have no information on color changes for 2020. Not knowing when to buy .

    Love the video.
    Cant help but realize how much I ride. You put 11k from October to June (roughly 8 months) I’ve done 9k in 90 days. The FJR is alluring for that reason. Comfy, quick, and reliable.

    You did an amazing review on this bike, and I have nothing except good about how you have taken your time and explained so much ! It's wonderful that you share your experience so well! TO be blunt and to the point, you've sold me on buying one. I also ride like you and enjoy long trips . so this is a great news to my ears how you've shared how well it does on long trips. The only thing you mentioned that could use improvement is the seat being somewhat hard and could need an aftermarket seat to further the pleasure of riding it. Almost every bike is like that, so it's not uncommon. Thank you for such an in depth review. Again, I thank you, Your friend, David Greve.

      @sciencebiker9519  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      David, thanks so much for the positive feedback! I thought of a couple things I didn't mention in the video.
      I wish the bike had tire pressure monitoring (but that would increase the cost of course).
      I feel like the paint is not especially thick. Its not thin mind you, its just the same as you would get on a new corolla or something. I think some more premium brands of motorcycle like Harley or BMW come with thicker coats of paint from the factory. Not a big deal but something I thought of. If you do end up buying an FJR, be sure to join the Owner/Enthusiasts group on FB and/or on the web forums. There are lots of knowledgeable people on there.

      Science_Biker , You are down to earth, and a very cool guy! I also love and have a big respect for the BMW brand. My first bike was a BMW R/51/3, a 500cc twin that was a daily rider through high school. That era of time was in the 1960's between '65- '68.

      It was only a 4 speed, with an op en drive shaft on it. If I laid down over the tank and cranked it wide open, I could get 93 mph out of her as a top speed.

      IV also owned 2 FJRs an 06 FJR and the 2012 the first bike has done 165kms my only issue with it was the ignition switch the key wouldn't turn on the instruments the ignition barrel was worn-out it's still in the Shop waiting to be picked up my 2012 I can see is it came with the heated grips that bike hasn't given me any troubles IV put 75kms on the clock I'm 65 in August so both FJR Yamaha the 06 and 2012 will probably outlive me stay safe and upright love from Australia 🦘🌏

    I found that the taller touring windshield greatly decreases the wind noise. It's lowest position is about at the same height as the stock shield's highest position. Earplugs help too. Love my 2015 !!!!

    O.k ok....I understand you have lots and lots and lots to say. However, it doesn't matter what your headlight is, if the conditions are right you'll hit the deer regardless of how bright your beam is....and yes...it has way more power than you'll ever need and will never use....and you should always be able to see parts of your elbows and or shoulders in your mirrors for spatial relation to what's around you, but a great review overall!!! I've been riding for 50 plus years...your youth belies your experience. Train, train and train some more and never stop training to ride....best of luck!!!

    Hi Johnny from Sweden. Great review! I own a 2015 AS model without the clutch. One comment about backing up reverse. I use the front brake and pump the FJR back and forth and can easily go reverse up hill using the weight of the bike as momentum. It is a body arms that do the work not the legs. That works fine for me. I owned a 2007 FJR before and I also love the 2015 bike.

    Hey great choice of bike.........coz I got a similar one LOL !! I agree with you so much about the smile as you ride aspect of this bike. Its a gem. I just got a 2015 model a couple weeks ago for eight thousand pounds with 14 K miles, after having had a 2007 model which I sold about three years ago. God did I miss it !! I live in Gibraltar which is just by the southern tip of Spain so plenty of fabulous roads to explore. I am still waiting on the owner's manual which I have not yet received from the previous owner. I got it with a pair of Leo Vince cans and fully adjustable manual suspension upgrade back and front and tinted screen, which incidently is exactly what I would have done myself so.......thanks to the guy for the foresight !! I hope you have thousands of safe miles on it, thanks for the review, enjoy.

    Thanks for the review....one of the things about my 2015 that I appreciate is the color which is liquid graphite. One good thing about a 5 speed is less gear changes when in town. I have had mine at ridiculous speeds and it is very stable and holds a line well. I had a goldwing that drifted right. To me the gen 3 air management is superb with either the stock screen or the yamaha touring which i use summer and winter respectively.

    Yes, the torque this bike produces is exemplary. It has more torque than a 2017 Harley Breakout. I routinely take off from a dead stop in 2nd gear, no problem. 3rd gear is also possible with proper clutch feathering.
    This bike is incredibly capable. I does everything really, really well.
    I average 49.6 MPG with a conservative throttle.

    This is easily the best video on this bike I’ve ever seen. Your audio is clear. Your video is crisp. I’m very interested in knowing what you use to record. Enough of that...
    I own a 2015 FJR1300es. It’s about 700 pounds wet. Add to that my 300 pounds and backing up any incline is tantamount to a heart attack! I could care less about a 6th gear. Give me REVERSE!
    Thanks for explaining some of the features of the bike. I’ve had it since 2015 and have never changed anything! Because I’m fat, I did set the suspension to 1 rider plus bags, and set it to standard +1. I’ve never bothered to move it from there because it seems to handle all situations beautifully the way it is.
    The longest trip I’ve taken was from CT to ME and back. 731 miles round trip in 13 hours. 3 tanks of gas. Not too shabby. I get around 43.2 MPG. After all was said and done, I could still ride a little more if I had to, but I was okay NOT having to.
    Anyhoo, great video. I smashed the like button and subscribed. If you’re feeling generous, would you mind sharing your set up? I’ll understand if you don’t, but hope you will.

    I've owned many bikes my last two being RC51 & ZX11. It's time to get the wife involved, how is it for 2 up riding?
    I'll be commuting and light to med touring. I've checked out multiple HD's & Indians...just not my thing. Also looked at the new K1600B & really liked it.....but $26000 is a tough pill to swallow. Thx again for the review & input.

    • @sciencebiker9519
      @sciencebiker9519  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From a rider perspective it does great with a pillion. Especially if you get the ES and can adjust suspension on the fly. Pillion comfort depends on your wife's preferences. An aftermarket seat and backrest will likely be desired if she rides with you a lot.

  • @daisy8luke
    @daisy8luke 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    After riding my 2015 FJR1300 for a couple of days, I came to the conclusion that these are the worst stock grips ever made. It's the only real complaint I have about the entire bike after nearly 300 miles. The cruise control is badass and works even at 30 mph. The seat is comfy, Windshield being adjustable on the fly is great. At night the stock headlights light even the darkest of roads like it's daylight. It's a nimble and responsive bike with lots of power even at highway speed. Braking and cornering are some of the best I've ever had. I do wish the saddlebags could be left unlocked, so I could access things in them without having to take the key out of the ignition. But that's just a matter of personal preference. Otherwise, I can see myself on this bike for a very long time.

    • @sciencebiker9519
      @sciencebiker9519  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting you dislike the grips so much. I don't think that's a common complaint. I've never had a problem with the stock ones. I certainly like them better than the foam grips on my Vulcan. Good news is grips are easily changed.

    • @daisy8luke
      @daisy8luke 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have big hands. So the stock grips on that tiny handlebar puts a lot of pressure concentrated in one zone on my palm causing numbness. I'm also old, and I may have a little carpal tunnel syndrome going on. Either way, I added some foam grips that slip on over the stock ones, and that helped a lot. I've also got some handlebar risers coming that will change my position a little and take some of the pressure off my hands. But, hey, if that's the biggest complaint I can come up with on this bike, it's a good purchase !!

    • @daisy8luke
      @daisy8luke 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, the Grip Puppies, that's what I was talking about, just couldn't remember what they were called. Made a huge difference. Plus I scooted the handlebars back to the closest position to me, and that helped take a bit of the weight off my hands. Seriously considering the Helibar risers. Where'd you get yours ??

  • @wightwalker2453

    Would like either this or the gtr1400 concours as a second bike to my blackbird. Having not ridden either yet I feel the fit and finish of the Yamaha is better, the gtr seems somehow less smooth with more top end power but less low end turbine like torque, the kwak engine note sounds a bit rougher if you will. The gtr also looks massive and plasticy. So fjr1300 it'll be.

    Great informative video...but I just want to make a suggestion. There currently two types of videos that are taking over in mass on TH-cam. The second type is short so called reviews...with computer generated voice overs that are reading articles from magazines and using photos lifted from manufacturer sites. And unfortunately the biggest fad...POV ride along GoPro videos. I am not saying they are a bad thing....but everyone is doing it now..everyone. People looking for a review are generally looking because they are interested in the bike. They usually want to see the bike and all of it's features. Sure people are talking about the bike...but all one sees in the video is the road...the windshield...and the handlebars for most of the video. I am not saying POV vids are bad...but people need to tone it down to just a two to 5 minute portion of the video. Talking about features...and not showing them to people who are interested doesn't truly help as a review.
    I would suggest breaking away from the hundreds if not thousands of POV ride along videos and going back to shade tree format...with walkarounds...closeups of particular features...showcasing the accessories that you have added. You are going to convey tremendously more information vocally and visually.
    Once again, not bashing in anyway...just really enjoy bikes...looking to get another...and just observing this trend on reviews that do not show the actual bike and features for "kings share" of the video.

      POPPASHANGO Respectfully, on the other hand, I prefer this format, with real world riding being demonstrated and spoken about. I doze off when someone is standing next to a bike speaking the entire time. He showed us the performance which we could also hear, which I’m better able to absorb. This was my favorite FJR overview I’ve seen. Bravo.

      Not as good as a goldwing, but still very capable for carrying two people.

    Jesus, you have some BIG roads in America! These bikes have been around for nearly 20 years; old ones are still fetching good money e.g. £2.8k for an example with 60k miles on the clock.

    Like your work. I've been riding 2013 FJR1300A since.new.
    Love it. I'd suggest looking at 55 liter Givi. Great high speed tourer

    Greetings! Just came across your channel, great review. I too recently purchased a new 2015 fjr 1300 es model, really enjoying it. I find quite a bit of wind noise in my helmet at Hwy speeds,even with the stock windshield in the upper most position. Do you ? Take Care & Safe Travels.

    • @sciencebiker9519
      @sciencebiker9519  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do at times find it to still be noisy with the windscreen in the upper position. It depends on the wind direction and so fourth. I think it also depends on your height and the type of helmet you have. I have a Shoei GT Air and am about 6 ft. I wear ear plugs on long trips to drown out the noise. Others have put on larger windshields such as the Yamaha touring screen or any number of aftermarket brands.

      I've found that getting my head into "clean" air, by raising myself, reduces the noise/buffeting. My next iteration will be a shorty California Scientific wind screen. I picked up a Schuberth, on sale, and wear ear plugs, every little bit helps. I'll be looking at another FJR next year, I have a Gen 1 now.

      Triketacular used to be the same for me. I am 6' - Shoei neotec took care of the noise !

    Do you like the FJR or the FJ-09 better? I have the FJ-09 and love it but am considering the FJR but only really do road trips about once or twice a year.

    • @robertbrandywine
      @robertbrandywine 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use cycle-ergo.com to determine the riding position that I will experience on a motorcycle. One thing I've learned is that bikes in which my body lean angle is too small will create back pain in me after about 30 minutes. The FJ-09 shows 0 degrees lean angle and the FJR1300 shows 10 degrees. I think you'll find the FJR more comfortable. I just cruise around on mine and it is great for this. I never tour.

    Long video, may have more comments, but what bank gave you 2.5%??? What term? Lowest I've seen for any new Yamaha is 3.9% unless it's for 6mo no interest. I just got a 2016 A model at a very good price. Almost got the 2015, would have been happy with either. It's a very enjoyable bike meant to be ridden a lot for many years.

      Just a local credit union, but the financing was handled/setup through the dealer. I had standard options for term length.

    Nice bike but the stock riding position is sport, not tour. Needs a better seat, bar extenders and lower pegs. Steers stable but high CG vs a Gold Wing.

    Well that 6 speed didn’t work out too well. All 16 thru 20 FJR’s have to be totally torn down for 2nd gear replacement and a few other things they put in there. Most say they never seem to run or shift as smooth after it’s done I’d love the 22 in black and gold. Had a midnight Maxim 750 by Yamaha in 88. Have the 06 auto clutch FJR now I bought 6 mos ago. 15 k miles And my ultimate bike a minty yellow and black 🐝 Honda Valkyrie with 26 k miles. Best bikes ever made.

      Yes, I still have the bike. Its currently sitting at 62,000 miles. I've been to Alaska and back on it. I'm not able to ride as much as I used to though because of the addition of children to my life. But its still a great bike with no major problems. I've not personally ridden a 6 spd, but I don't see the need for it. The 5 spd is just fine for me and very reliable. There was a recall on the 6 spds where they had to replace 2nd gear. This involved splitting the case open on nearly new bikes. So I'm glad I have the 5 spd.

    I have a 14es and have taken 3000 mi trips on mine and the seat is a bit hard. I had a guy that owns a mattress store who also rides a lot re do my existing seat by cutting out the middle foam and replace it with a rubber material injected with a gel element. it cost 60 bucks took one day and made it absolutely perfect. so check around before you spend 3 to 4 hundred dollars, this isn't rocket science.

    Banks suck. It's the business they're in, sucking money out of ya. Dealerships always give better rates, the business they're in is closing the sale.

    Great, honest review. But I would suggest that you stop admitting to crimes, ie; the speeds. In Georgia, you hit so many misdemeanors plus super speeder. You would not have a license for a while here. Just saying, this video could be used against you in court, if they decided to track you down. Sorry for the late late response, but I just saw your video. I plan on getting a 2017 Raven (black and silver) shortly.

      Try managing grad school, a job, and deaths in the family and then worry about if your garage is organized.
